2.3 x 2.1 x 2.1 cm. An adorable example of this now well-known combo from Mali - two perfect, translucent green balls of prehnite atop a terminated, dark green crystal of epidote.

Epidote from Namaqualand, Northern Cape Province, South Africa [db_pics/mdpics/MD-140637a.jpg]

This is a VERY significant epidote for Namibia, and pretty good by other standards as well. It features a 4-inch-plus crystal of very nice 3-dimensionality, in cluster with others. It is good from all sides, and can be displayed horizontally or vertically! It is nearly pristine! Charlie prized this highly and like many others in this offering, it was in the select group of drawers near his desk wher ethe collection accumulated over the decades. 12.1 x 5.9 x 3.7 cm

5.7 x 4.6 x 3.3 cm. An aesthetic, jackstraw cluster of lustrous, blocky, dark olive-green epidote crystals to 2.2 cm from a MOST UNUSUAL and uncommon locality - the Sadiola Gold Mine, Kayes Region, Mali. This excellent, two-sided, FLOATER cluster is nearly pristine, with only four broken crystals. Certainly not a detraction and barely noticeable.

4.1 x 3.3 x 1.3 cm. A cute and aesthetic two-sided cluster of highly lustrous, divergent sprays of olive-green epidote crystals from the recent and small find in Afghanistan. The little quartz needle at the end is a neat accent. Essentially pristine, with only a couple of points of attachment.

5.2 x 3.3 x 3.0 cm. Some of the best new Prehnite specimens to hit the market in a while are those that have been recently found in Mali. These specimens are some of the nicest gem quality Prehnites that I’ve seen from any locality. This specimen consists of a fine, gemmy, water-green color spherical aggregate of Prehnite associated with dark brownish-green crystals of Epidote. The Prehnite has thousands of very sharp micro terminations all over the "ball" and this specimen is gemmy enough to facet some nice gemstones. I think this is a very attractive and highly displayable specimen of a species that is often overlooked in the mineral world. Ex. Brian Kosnar Collection.

5.9 x 5.9 x 3.8 cm. Do not let the flood of prehnites from Mali make you jaded about good ones from other localities - such as this one from China, not known for quantities of good prehnites. This translucent, light green one is cradled beautifully in a matrix of epidote and epidote-included quartz crystals. The prehnite ball measures just under 3 cm.

8.0 x 5.8 x 4.8 cm. A showy epidote specimen from world famous and classic Knappenwand, Austria. Gemmy and lustrous, olive-green epidote crystals to 1.3 cm richly fill a vug at the base of a "mountain" partially covered by a "snow field" of soft, felt-like, grayish-green byssolite fibers. The matrix is nearly solid, massive epidote. Ex. Rolf Wein Collection, a noted Alpine collector, and purchased in 1967.

10.9 x 7.5 x 4.7 cm. This find was made around 3 years ago, and was mined out quickly. What you have is quartz crystals in association with deep green bladed epidotes. In this case, some of the quartzes are fully exposed so that you can see both terminations.

Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz), Epidote from Toll Mountain Lode Occurrence, Little Pipestone District, Silver Bow Co., Montana, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-154630a.jpg]

9.9 x 4.2 x 3.8 cm. An EXCEPTIONAL and UNIQUE Montana specimen from the Richard Hauck Quartz Collection. A highly glassy and lustrous, translucent, dark smoky quartz crystal has a dramatic, water-clear, termination, with a phantom of included, green chlorite. A spray of beautifully placed, jutting, olive-green epidote crystals is a striking accent. This is a stunning, complete all-around specimen that is very nearly pristine. More epidote sprays are hidden on the back with some feldspar. The minute edge wear on the termination is barely noticeable and is certainly not a detraction. From a very uncommon Montana locality.

Epidote, Quartz from Hongquizhen Quarry, Meigu Co., Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-154677a.jpg]

15.4 x 12.9 x 9.9 cm. From the find around two years ago in China -- a large plate of big quartz crystals jutting up from a rich field of sparkly, olive green epidotes. That big quartz crystal measures 7 cm in height by over 3 cm across. This specimen is really fine for the find, not just for its size, but also for the isolation of the quartzes on the rich carpet of epidote (rather than little patches of epidote here and there).

2.9 x 2.4 x 1.4 cm. Another specimen from the collection of John Ydren: this, an epidote from one of the great classic epidote localities, a notoriously unpleasant place to collect, the cold and forbidding, windswept Prince of Wales Island off Alaska. This dark green crystal is complete all around and undamaged, with a fine termination and good luster.
