6.4 x 3.8 x 2.6 cm. A floater group of epidote crystals, with terminations complete, from Peru. Exquisite cluster, ex Ed David Collection!
4.9 x 4.4 x 3.9 cm. A large, pristine globe of translucent, pretty green prehnite from the recent finds in Mali, with sparing dark epidote at the base.
5.4 x 4.4 x 3.0 cm. An unusually attractive specimen featuring a silky quartz crystal nestled amongst dark green epidotes, with most of their terminations complete. From a small find of about 2003.
3.4 x 1.6 x 0.6 cm. A showy and excellent cluster of lustrous, striated, dark olive-green parallel-growth epidote crystals from Knappenwand, Austria. THE classic epidote locality. Sharp terminations on the pristine piece. Ex George Elling Collection.
4.7 x 1.3 x 0.7 cm. Very uncommon on the market, an old AUSTRIAN epidote out of the Wein Collection, purchased in 1967 according to the collection card (which comes with the specimen). It is a dark coffee color, gemmy under very strong light. The termination is complete, and the crystal has a fine luster to it.
7.0 x 5.2 x 1.7 cm. I know that this specimen looks Peruvian, but it was collected by a close personal friend who lives in Alaska and travels by helicopter to the Green Monster every summer to collect Epidotes. He only recently discovered these unique Epidotes which form in "fan"-shaped crystal groups and sometimes in "jackstraw" groups as well. This piece is comprised of deep green, highly lustrous, translucent, thin, prismatic crystals of Epidote in a "fan"-shaped aggregate. It is in superb condition and most of the crystals are virtually undamaged, save the base where it detached from the pocket wall. A VERY cool U.S. Epidote specimen from what I was told was a one time find.
19.8 x 18.7 x 6.5 cm. From the find of this stunning combo around two years ago - one of the very top, a killer all around, BIG, with superb crystals in a wonderful balance.
6.5 x 5.3 x 5.1 cm. Ten balls of translucent green prehnite, intergrown with dark green, terminated crystals of epidote, from the recent finds in Mali.
10.0 x 6.6 x 6.4 cm. An old-timer from the Austrian Alps, out of the Wein Collection! It features a cluster of lustrous, terminated epidotes to just over one centimeter, surrounded by fibrous byssolite. Two of the epidotes are of the typical prismatic form, but above them (interestingly enough) are a couple of flattened tabular crystals! Acquired by Wein in 1986, according to the collection card.
8.4 x 7.4 x 2.7 cm. This find a little over a year ago (finished now) really stirred things up for awhile. Amethyst is not common from China, so miners were delighted to find these plates of lustrous, beautiful crystals with crystals of deep moss-green EPIDOTE sprinkled over them! This one has a beautiful balance of the little green epidotes with the purple amethyst as backdrop.
8.6 x 4.6 x 3.9 cm. From the exciting find last year -- sharp, gemmy quartz crystals decorated with lustrous, deep moss-green crystals of epidote. The epidotes here are arranged in a ridge along the middle of the quartz crystals. One of the quartzes has actually engulfed some of the epidotes at its termination!
3.0 x 2.1 x 0.7 cm. These specimens are seemingly identical to the classic Alpine specimens from Europe, and in certain instances, have surpassed the European specimens for quality and gemminess. This particular specimen is a superb, multi-terminated, sharp, lustrous, gem/gemmy, golden-green color crystal group with distinct pleochroism.
7.5 x 6.5 x 5.2 cm. This specimen consists of superb, well-crystallized, GEM QUALITY, water-green color spherical aggregate of Prehnite with sharp, semi lustrous, prismatic dark brownish-green crystal of Epidote on matrix ! One rarely sees such large "spheres" from this locality, let alone to find them associated with Epidote on matrix. The Prehnites have thousands of very sharp micro terminations all over the "balls".
5.3 x 3.4 x 1.9 cm. Richard Kosnar was a serious collector of Alpine and Alpine-type minerals from around the world. Epidote was one of his favorite species from these Alpine clefts. It has become increasingly more difficult to obtain top specimens from this locality, especially such fine quality specimens like this one. Epidote is one of the most well known of all the Alpine cleft species in the world, and some of the finest Epidote specimens in the world have been coming out of Pakistan in recent years. These specimens are seemingly identical to the classic Alpine specimens from Europe, and in certain instances, have surpassed the European specimens for quality and gemminess. This particular specimen is a superb, multi-terminated, sharp, and lustrous; gem/gemmy, multi-color crystal group with very distinct pleochroism, though there are a few contacts, which is not uncommon for these specimens. Ex. Kosnar Collection.
7.2 x 4.1 x 2.5 cm. From the finds of this combo in Mali, here is a unique and elegant specimen that Ed David picked out for himself. A large, doubly-terminated epidote crystal is framed by the back sides of balls of green prehnite that cover the back of the crystal. Ex. Ed David Collection.
