A really fine and beautiful example from last year''s find of lustrous green epidote crystals on quartz, in Sichuan Province. This specimen is distinguished by its pretty isolation of clusters of epidotes, some of which are included inside the quartz crystals. 13.2 x 9.7 x 5.0cm
This specimen hosts the largest and best epidote crystals I have yet seen from this recently productive locale in China, with sharp curved crystals measuring a whopping 2.5 cm, standing up against matrix of a host quartz crystal. I have not seen other epidotes from here of even half this size, commonly. In person, the epidote is more glassy and 3-dimensional, and has a very dark green color. These were initially mislabelled as pumpellyite when they first came out some 3 years ago, but they have been shown since to be epidote - if unusual in forma nd quality. This is MUCH BETTER IN PERSON! 6.4 x 4.9 x 2.3 cm
If you carefully look over the prehnites coming from Mali, you can find some really spectacular ones, with fine translucent balls such as this specimen has. Quality is FAR beyond the average! 5.3 x 4.1 x 3.2cm
An exceptionally pretty specimen of translucent balls of prehnite on a cluster of epidote crystals, from new finds in Mali. 4.8 x 3.8 x 2.5cm
This is a great old time Alpine classic ! The four countries that produce the classic metamorphic Alpine are Switzerland, Austria, Italy and France. Most people are familiar with the fine Ferroaxinite specimens and top quality clamshell or helmet-shaped Prehnite specimens from this locality, but very few people know that this classic French locality is the type locality for Epidote ! Epidote isnt necessarily a rare mineral, but it is highly coveted by European collectors and collectors of Alpine minerals from the famous Alpine locality. This piece is filled with dozens of sharp, prismatic, highly lustrous, very deep pistachio green crystals of Epidote measuring up to 1.6 cm intermixed with iron-stained Quartz crystals. This specimen comes with and old, European hand-written label dated 1903. 5.3 x 3.9 x 2.4cm
A large specimen, with a good balance of Quartz and Epidote, and the Epidotes piled up high amidst the Quartzes. This one has crystallized Quartz on the back side of the plate as well – showing that it was exposed on both sides in the pocket, or at least came off the pocket wall and was able to recrystallize on its own. One broken Quartz crystal on the lower left side. 10.5 x 9.5 x 4.0cm
Amongst the world-class amethysts specimens from Las Vigas, none are prettier than these that came out with fine crystals on a plate of green epidote microcrystals. The color contrast give them an extra panache, and this specimen is particularly elegant with its single purple crystal jutting out, surrounded by gemmy quartz points. Very dramatic and gorgeous, from a rare pocket of this association. 6 x 5.7 x 3.7 cm
An aesthetic and excellent cluster of lustrous, undamaged, dark olive-green epidote crystals to 2.2 cm with a couple of quartz needles from the very famous Prince of Wales Island in Alaska. This is an old-time piece, as the label lists the locality as Sulzer, Alaska. Ex George Robinson Collection. 3.7 x 3.0 x 2.2 cm
A fine and large example from the find of last year of deep moss-green epidote crystals on quartz crystals, with a nice balance of the epidotes scattered across the lustrous faces of the quartz crystals. A striking combo! 12.3 x 7.7 x 3.7cm
Amongst the fine prehnites coming from Mali, VERY few are on matrix, as this one is, and it really adds a lot. These prehnite balls on matrix appear much like those strang egg-yolk-like fluorites from Nasik, India. Out of the side of the largest prehnite pokes an epidote crystal, the typical assocation from this locality. The largest prehnite ball measures 2 cm. 7.2 x 4.2 x 4.4cm
This is a great old time Epidote from the country that produced some of the first and most classic Epidotes in the world. This specimen is comprised of a few, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, olive-oil green, crystals of Epidote intergrown to form a very aesthetic thumbnail. This piece comes with the old label documenting it was collected in 1865. A wonderful Alpine specimen from the mid 19th Century ! 2.4 x 2.2 x 1.8cm
This is an attractive piece feautring a few highly lustrous, lilac colored Amethyst crystals with a beautiful "rosette" of Epidote sitting atop the largest Amethyst. There are also plenty of micro Hematite inclusions in this one as illustrated in one of the most recent issues of Lapidary Journal. 7.5 x 5.2 x 3.3cm
You have probably seen these prehnite/epidote combo specimens coming out of Mali, but you have to really look around to fine the exceptionally aesthetic ones. As far as a thumber goes, you would be hard put to find a more perfect and elegant one than this: a single, doubly-terminated epidote crystal intergrown with a translucent ball of prehnite. 2.2 x 1.8 x 1.5 cm
An AESTHETIC, lustrous and pristine, multi-faceted, bright copper-in-calcite scalenohedron on a bit of matrix with green epidote and a very narrow seam with a stray, tiny silver wire or two from the famous Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. A different perspective to this beautiful, old-time piece is given with each bit of rotation. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 3.4 x 2.7 x 2.3 cm
A doubly-terminated epidote crystal on a translucent cluster of prehnite, a very pretty specimen from recent finds in Mali. 4.9 x 4.1 x 3.4cm
