4.5 x 4.0 x 2.6 cm. An EXCELLENT and AESTHETIC Stak Nala specimen of a pristine, doubly terminated, tri-colored tourmaline crystal surrounded by tan cleavelandite. Pink-tipped, gemmy Stak Nala tourmalines are the LEAST COMMON and MOST DESIRABLE tourmaline varietal from this famous locality, as most are two colors of green. This piece, most assuredly, is from finds 15-20 years ago.
7.8 x 6.0 x 5.9 cm. This is one of three of these old Pala classics we acquired recently - tourmaline crystals "in situ", still embedded in their natural lepidolite-rich matrix. The crystals are salmon-colored, and measure to about 5 cm.
17.9 x 11.6 x 10.0 cm. A big show-stopper of a specimen featuring a very large compound tourmaline crystal that has grown right on the side of a huge, gemmy quartz crystal! Though the specimen could not be removed from the pocket with the termination of the tourmaline intact (the bottom of the tourmaline and the quartz is the matrix contact), it is nevertheless quite a sensational specimen. The tourmaline is gemmy, with wonderful green color, and measures a very impressive 11 cm, top to bottom! It is actually a compound crystal made up of several intergrown crystals, and the terminations of these subordinate crystals ARE all complete - the only one missing is the main one - presumably the top end of the crystal contacted the pocket wall and therefore could not be removed complete. The tourmaline is just so striking against the backdrop of this giant quartz crystal - wow!
5.2 x 4.8 x 3.2 cm. Watermelon Tourmalines are always good to find, when you can. This specimen, with superb luster and partial gemminess, has the classic red core and green outer layer. The base is healed and the sculptural termination is decorated with pinkish-tan feldspars. For a locale which produces many slender crystals, this is an amazing 5.2 cm wide and 3.2 cm thick!
10.4 x 4.2 x 3.7 cm. Large and attractive Tourmaline that has excellent luster and is remarkably gemmy most of the way through the crystal. The Tourmaline grades from a light green to a beautiful medium green and then an almost sky blue near the termination. Quite remarkable for the locality! 345 grams weight!
9.1 x 3.6 x 2.9 cm. A big fat tourmaline from old finds, probably 1970s or even 60s. The piece is actually quite translucent despite its thickness, though this is more obvious in person. The termination is complete except for a tiny chip in the back edge, and has some luster if not the best. The bottom is actually ALSO complete, and terminated, so this is a floater! 180 grams in weight.
13.7 x 0.8 x 0.8 cm. A very long, CUTTER-QUALITY gem crystal of indicolite tourmaline. The crystal is a very dark teal color, and flawlessly gemmy from top to bottom. It is terminated on top, with green right at the termination. Complete all around, no contacts or damage, and super luster! Note that this is a very dark crystal and needs strong light to show the color. Weighs 25 grams.
4.4 x 1.1 x 0.9 cm. An extremely bright pink and fine Queen Mine rubellite, self-collected by Ed Ruggiero on New Years Eve of 1975, according to the accompanying collection card. It is DOUBLY-TERMINATED, and weighs 7 grams. CLASSIC COLOR AND BRIGHTNESS!
3.8 x 1.4 x 1.1 cm. A compound crystal of bright, gemmy tourmaline, with two fine terminations. The top parts of the two intergrown crystals have different colors - one bright grassy green and one pink - adding to the beauty. Weighs 10 grams.
5.3 x 2.3 x 2.3 cm. A 57-gram, translucent Himalaya tourmaline, green at the bottom and pink for the top centimeter. It IS terminated on top - a "healed" termination (the crystal broke off at some point in the pocket, and then the termination naturally healed).
3.9 x 1.2 x 0.8 cm. An incredibly gemmy (it has glassy transparency in person and really glows!) light teal-colored crystal of tourmaline from Brazil. It is terminated and complete all around. Weighs 6 grams.
2.7 x 0.7 x 0.7 cm. A pristine gem tourmaline crystal, complete, terminated and lustrous. Very fine green color. Gemmy top to bottom! Weighs 3 grams.
1.9 x 1.0 x 1.0 cm. There was great excitement when the Sapo Mine turned out a pocket of blue-cap tourmalines, to supplement the tiny supply of them that came out of California decades earlier. But of course, the Sapo crystals disappeared immediately from the market. Here is a really fine little terminated thumber from the find!
3.9 x 1.3 x 1.0 cm. A beautiful, gemmy and lustrous, bi-colored, parallel-growth tourmaline crystal from Pech, Afghanistan. The nifty, alternating pastel-pink and pastel-green colors are characteristic of these fine Pech tourmalines. Undamaged. 7 grams.
4.0 x 1.7 x 1.3 cm. The EPITOME of Himalaya Mine tourmalines. This GORGEOUS, pristine GEM crystal has it ALL - classic pink color with green zones, doubly terminated and beautifully accented with gem, lavender lepidolite crystals. 12 grams.
