Elbaite from Santa Rosa mine, Itambacuri, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-35013a.jpg]

This very gemmy, glassy-terminated old Santa Rosa tourmaline is from old Ed Swoboda finds while he was working in Brazil in the 1940’s. The glassy green hue is really exquisite and such color stands out dramatically from modern Pederneira Mine material (brighter and more grassy in hue). He recently passed on some minerals to the Seibels, who brought them to Costa Mesa. So not only is it a beautiful tourmaline from old finds at the Santa Rosa, it also has a superb pedigree. Weight: 9 grams 4.6 x 0.9 x 0.9 cm

This translucent and lustrous green elbaite has a .5 cm black band at the termination. Multicolored tourmalines of this type came out of Brazil more than 20 years ago and are classic for the locality. 5.2 x 1.5 x 1.3 cm

This wonderfully etched elbaite has a .3-cm green, transparent termination atop a rubellite core that is preferentially etched into skyscraper images. Once the crystal was formed, changes in the ph of the pocket fluids allowed the elbaite to undergo etching. This particular pocket, found in the early-1990's, is the most extreme of this type found at the mine and produced a limited number of specimens such as this with level terminations and intricate, citylike caverns internally. MUCH BETTER AND MORE 3-DIMENSIONAL IN PERSON! This is a piece of "art" ! 3.8 x 3 x 2.6 cm

This fat, gemmy, red-yellow elbaite has a beautifully sculptured termination that exhibits the classic triangular shape of tourmaline. With the lustre and color , it is devilishly hard to photograph and suffice to say it is much better in person so i priced it cheaper to encourage somebody to test that idea! 5.8 x 3.2 x 2.7 cm

This matrix specimen came out of Brazil more than twenty years ago and is classic for the mine, with dark gren top on a chatoyant , gemmy green core. It features elbaites to 3 cm, with a .5 cm black termination above an opaque, olive green prism which emits a chatoyant appearance. Adding to the great contrast of colors are blades of lustrous, white albite up to 2 cm across on the front, but over 10 cm on the back side. In addition, the matrix of lepidolite tops off this combo specimen. THE ALBITE IS SPARKLIER AND THE TOURMALINE BRIGHTER, IN PERSON! 9.6 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm

At first thought, most folks think of colorless tourmaline as basically ridiculous to collect....i mean, a tourmaline without color?! what is the point, right? then again, on thinking about it, you realize how RARE such a thing is in all the world of hundreds of tourmaline localities, to get a tourmaline crystal that grew so purely without color-producing inclusions and impurities, that you realize how very special such a treasure is....and this is an exceptional piece with high lustre, exquisite termination, and very good gemminess (more so in person). 5.1 x 1.6 x 1.3 cm

A super display specimen, complete all around, showing a LOT of blue gem tourmaline for the money! The crystals have a vibrant rich blue color that is transmitted through the gemmy crystals , clearly visible without any kind of fancy backlighting - the best style of indicolite as far as the collector is concerned. Repaired just one time, cleanly, almost invisibly, through the lower portion of the long crystal and with no restoration at all. This is considered quite rare for an indicolite of such size from any locality but particularly for a cluster from this particular pocket (found around 2002), from which many crystals were multiply fragmented. Comes with custom lucite display base. 12.2 x 2.9 x 1.5 cm

We call these "bubblegum pinks" for obvious reason, and today they have become one of the few truly, instantly recognizable "styles" of tourmaline from the Afghani pegmatites that stand out from the vast majority of, call them, "random nice and pretty tourmaline pockets." This one is exceptional for several reasons aside from pedigree of being in this collection: it has truly outstanding, rich , juicy color; great lustre; no damage; no repairs despite its size. This thing just IMPRESSES the hell out of you, guaranteed. It is big, juicy, colorful, and leaps out even in only moderate lighting 9.6 x 5 x 3.1 cm

An exquisite, gemmy, pristine tourmaline of classic multicolored hues for the location. This color scheme is riveting, and it displays phenomenally in a showcase. It is so gemmy that you need very little, if any, backlighting to show it. 7.9 x 1.3 x 1.3 cm

A beautifully gemmy and lustrous blue indicolite tourmaline from Pech, Afghanistan. The pyramidal termination is extremely gemmy. A couple of super trivial termination edge bruises are barely noticeable. The backlit photos highlight the gemmyness and intense blue color of the termination. (3 grams) 2.4 x 0.9 x 0.8 cm
