5.9 x 1.9 x 1.3 cm. An aesthetic, bifurcated tourmaline crystal cluster from the Pederneira Mine. The highly gemmy and lustrous crystals have gorgeous, teal-blue bodies and have olive-green, strikingly different terminations. Complete-all-around and nearly pristine. Beautiful material from this noted locale. Weighs 16 grams.

This is classic old material (30-50 years old, probably) and specimens are VERY hard to come by in any American market. It is, on its own merit, a SUPER specimen with characteristic pink color that is rather different in hue from more recent Afghani material. This specimen has several fat, translucent crystals that are brighter and more gemmy in person than they appear here. Bits of colorful elbaite (if broken) and lepidolite add some color contrast. The piece is complete all around and consists of a nice arrangement on matrix. Most Queen morganites are for some reason contacted or buried in matrix. FREESTANDING CRYSTALS like these are exceedingly uncommon. Ex. Barlow Collection specimen (self-collected by him in the pocket as described in his book). Funny enough Irv Brown got it from Barlow and traded it to Chuck Houser, who later traded it back to Irv when he made up a more systematic collection and needed one...they just aren't out there to be had except by such incestuous San Diego ties, these days! 5.7 x 5.5 x 5 cm

2.4 x 0.9 x 0.9 cm. A fine, green, tourmaline thumbnail from the Little Thee Mine of California. The pristine, gemmy and lustrous crystal has a steep, pyramidal termination. Probably from the 1960s-1970s finds. Ex. Tim Sherburn Collection.

This piece displays classic Newry blue-green color. This piece is from the 1972-4 pockets considered to be one of the finest East Coast tourmaline finds in this century. Although not transparent except at the very tip, it IS translucent throughout despite its thickness. Weight on this beast is 382 grams. 9.2 x 5.1 x 5.1 cm

10.8 x 4.2 x 3.4 cm. This is a really fine, large crystal of classic Himalaya Mine rubellite, showing a lustrous basal termination at one end (top here) and a multiterminated prismatic tip at the other (shown down here as he mounted it). It has one clean repair, well done, at the join where the albite is. It is otherwise complete-all-around. This is a significant piece for the size and overall quality from a mine that really was, in its day, the single most important longterm-production tourmaline mine in the County. The location is now closed. Ex. Chuck Houser Collection.

A striking GEM crysatl, completely transparent, of brilliant blue color. Such gemmy inidcolites are uncommon, and usually need backlighting to show off the fine blue color. Not so, here! This one glows with color in any lighting, even weak and indirect lights. 6.2 x 2.3 x 1.5 cm

Tourmaline, Tourmaline (Var: Rubellite) from Jonas Mine, Conselheiro Pena, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-34599a.jpg]

This is a rare floater cluster of SOLID TOURMALINE from the Jonas Mine, with the famous cranberry hue and excellent lustre . It is just very unusual in its form and size. Though it has the "Jonas Color", it is not particularly gemmy (although it is somewhat translucent). It amazes me that such a piece can form complete and crystallized on ALL sides ?!!? Weight is hefty at 237 grams! 8.1 x 4.8 x 5.7 cm

A classic Himalaya mine tourmaline, with rich purple lepidolite as accents! It is complete all around, and actually DOUBLY terminated, except for a slight, hardly noticeable, very shallow conchoidal break on the back of the termination. 56 grams 5.7 x 2.9 x 2.5 cm

Tourmaline (Var: Rubellite), Tourmaline from Paprok, Nuristan Province (Nurestan; Nooristan), Afghanistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-34679a.jpg]

A gorgeous, glassy, translucent/transparent , richly pink tourmalien from THE classic locality for "bubblegum pinks," in Afghanistan. Fewer of these have come out of late, though. It is complete all around and pristine, save only for the uneven bottom (and that can be clipped if it bothers anybody...i kinda like it as a natural pedestal). 5.1 x 1.6 x 1.5 cm (34 grams)
