14 x 12 x 6 cm. I think one can safely state that this is a MAJOR Himalaya Mine cluster, and aesthetic as well. Few large Himalaya pieces of this magnitude have been recovered, compared to all the mining down there over 100 years from 1900 to 2000, as the pegmatite is enormously disrupted. This incredible large Himalaya Mine cluster was safely kept in the mine-owner's personal collection for many years until Gene traded it from him, in the mid-90s. Gene then owned it for about a decade until trading it to me, through Wayne Thompson. It is a complete cluster all around, 3-dimensional and terminated on every crystal. Ex. Dr. Eugene Meieran, William Larson Collections.

Elbaite, Quartz, Albite (Var: Cleavelandite), Lepidolite from Pederneira claim, São José da Safira, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-164096a.jpg]

24 x 14 x 11 cm. This is a truly unique piece from this mine. It consists of a 17.5 cm-long "sword" of tourmaline shooting out majestically from a "tree" of thick crystals, with lepidolite and albite mixed in for contrast. In person, the shocking stark white blades of Cleavelandite and the sparkly purple lepidolite stand out a lot more, and really contrast with the gemmy green tourmaline. The cluster, the whole tree-and-sword combination, is itself growing and rising out of a 13 x 9 cm TERMINATED TOURMALINE CRYSTAL THAT SERVES as the natural base for the piece. It looks like nothing so much as a tree rising from a lake...the green tourmaline base even has what looks like ripples on the water surface.

23 x 15 x 5 cm. This "Rocket Pocket" as some call it was found in pieces, and put back together over several years like a jigsaw puzzle. The 2 larger crystals in this 3-crystal cluster measure 15 and 14 cm in length, and BOTH ARE TERMINATED! In fact, the crossbar crystal, at 15 cm, is DOUBLY-TERMINATED. The 6cm, thin crystal you see at the junction has a termination that sticks out the back of the piece, and is thus also doubly-terminated. The upright vertical strut rises from a quartz crystal, which is an unlikely but extremely nice pedestal for the cluster.

16 x 9 x 3.5 cm. This is the "Freilich indicolite" as some have called it, a dramatic and vibrant piece with nearly electric color. The piece is complete all around, fully terminated, and free of damage. It weighs in at just over 1 kilo or 2.25 pounds. Ex. Joseph Freilich Collection.

4.9 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm. From the collection of Steve Smale, a gem tourmaline with superb gemminess through the green bottom, capped with a translucent pink tip with a fine termination. The luster is glassy; the crystal is complete all around and undamaged. This super old Cruzeiro tourmaline weighs 20 grams.

4.5 x 4.1 x 3.9 cm. A RARE, CLASSIC and HIGHLY DESIRABLE combination specimen from the famed Tourmaline Queen Mine! A 2.2 cm blue-cap tourmaline crystal is aesthetically set in to the side of a sharp, gemmy and lustrous, peach-pink morganite crystal. This is not a "shiny" blue-cap, but it is STILL a blue-cap. This super piece is from the personal stash of Ed Swoboda, partner in the famous early 1970s mining effort at the Tourmaline Queen. Few were found in this combination!! CLASSIC material.

5.5 x 3.0 x 1.3 cm. A really cute Pech, Afghanistan combination specimen. A 3.1 cm, very gemmy and lustrous, pink and green tourmaline crystal, with a colorless termination, is aesthetically set on the side of a water-clear, well-striated, colorless spodumene crystal. The complete all-around spodumene has a textbook chisel termination, with two of the side faces being attractively frosted. A trivial bit of contacting at the base of the spodumene is certainly not a detraction or is barely noticeable. Ex. Laura Thompson collection.

5.9 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm. An elegant, tapering compound crystal of tourmaline, of a light green/teal color, from Mozambique. The crystal is terminated, and has an interesting structure like three blades connected at the center, so that looked at from the top it has the shape of the Mercedes symbol.

2.5 x 1.2 x 1.0 cm, 1.1 x 0.7 x 0.6 cm. What you are looking at is a really interesting "set" of a tourmaline crystal and what is known as a "gem nodule" that formed as the bottom termination of a crystal in a manner that often leaves them as loose or easily pried form the rest of the crystal; it fits perfectly into the concave bottom of the tourmaline crystal, its glassy rounded side facing out. The tourmaline crystal is a gemmy green, with a rough but natural and complete top termination. Miners harvest preferentially the gem nodules for cutting rough, and this makes a set showing the natural full crystal with the nodule as it would be found in some pockets.

11.1 x 4.2 x 3.6 cm. A whopper crystal of tourmaline from the Santa Rosa Mine, grading from pink at the bottom to a mint green at the top. The crystal is complete all around, with no contacts. It has pretty sub-terminations all around it; they are complete in all areas except for a "shelf" on one side. This big crystal weighs in at over 300 GRAMS!

3.0 x 2.5 x 2.2 cm. Here we have a very attractive multicolor crystal group with attractive steep pyramidal terminations, good luster and nice translucency. Afghanistan has truly produced some of the most attractive Tourmaline specimens around for the last 25 years or so, and they have really held their own against Tourmalines from other world localities. This crystal has a beautiful green termination that ranges into a baby pink color throughout the rest of the specimen. The crystal group is complete all the way around, and very attractive. Ex. Brian Kosnar.

8.5 x 5.8 x 5.2 cm. The famous Corrego do Urucum pegmatite of Brazil has historically produced some of the world’s finest morganite combination specimens and this is certainly a SUPERB example. A GEM, 5.1 cm, beautiful pink morganite crystal is aesthetically attached to the end of a starkly contrasting albite matrix. Lustrous, green tourmaline pencils richly cover the albite and many are very interestingly embedded in the very nearly pristine morganite. This fat morganite crystal has sharp crystal faces, excellent clarity and color saturation. An outstanding Brazilian morganite specimen. This beauty probably dates to the 70s or 80s.
