Elbaite, Albite from Himalaya Mine (Himalaya pegmatite; Himalaya dikes), Gem Hill, Mesa Grande District, San Diego Co., California, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-156343a.jpg]

5.9 x 4.3 x 3.0 cm. A supremely gemmy and lustrous, pink tourmaline with a green base aesthetically attached to a grayish-white albite crystal cleavage from the famous Himalaya Mine. This gorgeous, 5.9 cm crystal has the best pink color and clarity that you can image. It is also beautifully striated and the termination is pristine. Yes, the tourmaline is contacted, but it remains a beautiful representation of what the Himalaya Mine has produced. Old material.

Elbaite from Cruzeiro mine, São José da Safira, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-157140a.jpg]

3.3 x 0.8 x 0.7 cm. This is a rather small crystal, admittedly, but the quality is just superb. Both the green body and the pink top have the most intense gemminess, and the termination is glassy, clear and perfect. Towards the bottom, you can see where the crystal broke inside the pocket, and then naturally healed, so it now has a bend to it. From the 1980s; ex. Smale Collection.

7.2 x 1.4 x 1.4 cm. An elegant, tapering compound crystal of tourmaline from Paprok - complete, undamaged and with ALL terminations intact, both the multiple terminations as the crystal rises and the BOTTOM termination! RARE to find one like this! It has a very slight pastel pink hue for most of its length, but right at the very bottom is a pretty mint green. From a famous pocket in the late 90s. Weighs 20 grams.

Elbaite, Quartz, Calcite from Stak Nala, Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-157151a.jpg]

10.3 x 3.4 x 3.4 cm. A BIG, DOUBLY-TERMINATED Stak Nala tourmaline, very dark bottle-green, with a transparent top termination. This complete crystal is decorated with a blanket of tiny poker-chip calcites, and a doubly-terminated quartz crystal (multiply-terminated on one end) right at the top termination. There is a natural hollow tube running down through the crystal from the top termination. The bottom termination has a bit of contact in one place, but the fact that this termination is complete at all is really unusual.

7.8 x 4.4 x 4.2 cm. RARE on matrix! Here are TWO gemmy Barra de Salinas tourmalines, each with an intact termination. They are embedded but well exposed on a quartz crystal that wrapped itself around the tourmalines as it grew. The tourmalines measure 2.5 cm and 2.2 cm, respectively. They have pretty cranberry color, with a bit of green.

4.4 x 1.4 x 1.0 cm. A superb, exquisite, doubly-terminated floater tourmaline crystal from Paprok. It is pink in the middle, sandwiched by a grassy green on one end and a mint green on the other. It has a pretty, gentle taper to it. Weighs 13 grams. RARE STYLE and color pattern!

3.8 x 1.8 x 1.8 cm. A nearly perfect mineral specimen. Here is a pure, flawless gem crystal of tourmaline rising from a euhedral crystal of quartz which wrapped itself around the tourmaline to form a perfect natural base. The colors are prettier in person, with 3 subtle shifts in hue.

4.8 x 2.2 x 1.7 cm. This was a single large crystal of gemmy tourmaline that experiences stresses in the pocket, causing breakage in the pocket that resulted in one part of the crystal only continuing upwards with a change to GREEN color from the original pink; so now, you have this wonderful bi-colored specimen! One part of the shorter section of the crystal has a healed termination, and the other part appears to be broken off from extraction. The top termination, the green one, is complete. Weighs 26 grams.

5.5 x 1.1 x 0.6 cm. A slender, multiply-terminated bi-colored tourmaline from Brazil, weighing 5.5 grams. It is very gemmy, a pretty green color with a hint of blue, becoming nearly colorless with a suggestion of pink at the multiply terminated end. These multiple terminations are not all complete, but the other end is terminated (though with some damage).

4.2 x 1.1 x 0.6 cm. A doubly-terminated, gemmy tourmaline crystal from the Golconda Mine, with a smaller crystal growing out of one end of it. Weighs 6.7 grams. Fine luster and pretty green color. There is some natural etching on one end, the bottom termination.

Elbaite, Schorl from Stak Nala, Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-157554a.jpg]

4.0 x 2.5 x 1.8 cm. From the new find in the late fall of 2005 in Pakistan. This is a nice little specimen from the most famous Tourmaline locality in Pakistan. I have seen many Tourmaline specimens from Stak Nala for many years and the one characteristic of that many of them lacked was decent color. This crystal features several colors ranging from a slight colorless "Achroite" zone, grading into a blue-green area, then into an olive-green color, then a very dark forest-green color. The prism and pinacoid faces of the Tourmaline are rather lustrous for this material. To top it off, the crystal is associated with white "rosettes" of Albite (var. "Cleavelandite"). This is a great display piece and a wonderful pegmatite specimen from a classic locality. These pieces are becomingly increasingly difficult to find in today's market. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

10.0 x 8.5 x 7.0 cm. A DRAMATIC CABINET specimen featuring a 4.3 cm-tall, very gemmy, intense green tourmaline crystal with a slightly blue-indicolite termination proudly projecting upward amidst a field of lustrous, stark-white albite blades all atop a matrix of feldspar...call it the Sword in the Stone! This SUPERB and AESTHETIC piece hails from the famous Golconda Mine of Brazil and is a highly desirable old-timer from a collection we picked up in California recently containing nothing past 1980 or so. The quality and aesthetics, the stark contrast to the crystallized albite blades of the matrix is classic for this mine from the 1960s but few are seen for sale nowadays.

7.5 x 5.4 x 3.2 cm. Have you ever seen anything like this before? It is a GLOWING, lustrous, ruby-colored elbaite tourmaline that has formed in a crescent shape, isolated on a chalky matrix - incredibly dramatic as well as being rare.
