4.2 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm. An excellent, very sculptural combination piece from the late 80’s-early 90’s. The Lepidolites and Albites are very well-formed, and the beautiful, gemmy, and lustrous Tourmaline is 1.6 cm long. The aesthetics of the way the Tourmaline nestles among the other minerals is terrific.
13.0 x 3.2 x 3.0 cm. This is a MAGNIFICENT CABINET gem tourmaline. I obtained it in a lucky purchase via satellite phone email from the mines, on its way down the hills to Peshawar, yet uncleaned. The gemminess and lustre of this blue-green beauty are off the charts. The lower half of the crystal is lighter, as the core is light pink. The STRIKING pyramidal termination is partially parallel-growth making for a bit of depth to the crystal surfaces. The termination looks like the top of an Art Deco skyscraper in New York City. It is very dramatic. Hefty at 250 grams, over half a pound!
5.0 x 4.1 x 2.5 cm. A gemmy and lustrous, OLD-TIME, green Himalaya Mine tourmaline. This very showy, parallel-growth crystal has excellent green color zoning, with the termination and base being particularly gemmy. This fine crystal is complete all-around, has a lustrous, matte-black termination and the bit of termination edge wear is certainly not a detraction. Ex George Elling Collection. 114 grams.
4.8 x 1.8 x 1.5 cm. A VERY RARE and BEAUTIFUL combination specimen from Paprok, Afghanistan. Two, lustrous, sharp, intergrown, octahedral, brown microlite crystals are very nicely attached to the base of a very glassy and lustrous, parallel-growth, pastel-pink tourmaline crystal, which has a light blue zone, just below the matte termination. The microlites are aesthetically associated with pearlescent, tabular, purple lepidolite crystals. Microlite is a rare tantalum oxide and this is a SUPER and SHOWY pristine combo piece.
6.3 x 1.1 x 0.9 cm. From the collection of Steve Smale, a pure GEM tourmaline crystal, finely terminated, complete all around and un-contacted, from the Cruzeiro. It shows a range of hues, from grassy bright green, to pink, to a light cranberry. Super luster too. A fine gem crystal that weighs 14 grams.
3.7 x 0.7 x 0.5 cm, 2.7 x 0.9 x 0.7 cm, 1.7 x 0.8 x 0.6 cm. Three pure gem-quality crystals of green tourmaline from the Pederneira, 2 of them terminated.
2.9 x 2.1 x 1.0 cm. A super-cutie from Stak Nala - a DOUBLY-TERMINATED 2-cm crystal, set on contrasting cleavelandite matrix, with the dark green-to-pink variegation typical of this locality. Fine pyramidal termination and good luster too!
4.0 x 1.8 x 0.9 cm. Cute specimen - a 2.3-cm teal-colored indicolite tourmaline sits on a complete, tabular crystal of quartz. It is terminated on one end.
2.4 x 2.3 x 2.3 cm. A "mushroom" tourmaline from Burma, with the characteristic "cap", in this case a transparent deep pink to red color. Henry Minot specimen.
6.9 x 3.3 x 2.9 cm. This is a fabulous-looking and LARGE tourmaline crystal from Brazil. It is terminated, with a fine pyramidal termination with pretty bevels. The luster is just superb, but the colors are really the star here. The crystal has a cranberry top, and the center is absolutely clear gemmy green, pure top grade gem material! There are a couple of natural contacts on the back side, including one that is on one of the three termination faces but that does not show from the display side. This large crystal weighs 122 grams.
7.5 x 5.4 x 3.3 cm. A killer tourmaline specimen from the Santa Rosa, with both size AND quality! The color is an intense, glowing magenta through the top half. There is about a half-centimeter of light green at the top, culminating in a termination that is absolutely superb and glassy. There is minor wear along the front edge and a shallow, small contact at the left side just below the termination, but these are truly minor in the context of the specimen size. The color and translucency are outstanding, and visually the piece has a lot of impact. This is an old specimen, probably from the 1960s or 1970s. It is REALLY similar to San Diego material of the same era and could fool somebody into thinking it was from the Stewart Mine in San Diego. The crystal has a flattened shape due to obstacles to growth in back, which fortuitously makes the top part of the crystal thinner than the base to let more of the light through, when otherwise a crystal this size would have been pretty dark. You can see pretty little clusters of accenting lavender lepidolite here and there.
5.4 x 5.2 x 1.3 cm. This is the sliced-off termination of a BIG pink tourmaline crystal from the Queen Mine in Pala. We acquired three of these superb termination slices from Bill Larson, who collected them in the late 1970s. They are translucent, with a beautiful pastel pink color, and look great displayed on their side, with the light coming through. The termination side has these really interesting minute pyramidal growths on it.
3.7 x 0.6 x 0.4 cm, 2.9 x 0.7 x 0.5 cm. From the collection of Steve Smale, two superb little SUPER-GEM tourmaline crystals from the same pocket, with bright pink tips and green bottoms. Both are complete, terminated and undamaged, with super luster.
10.5 x 3.0 x 2.7 cm. This MAGNIFICENT bi-colored CABINET gem tourmaline was obtained in a lucky purchase via satellite phone email from the mines, on its way down the hills to Peshawar, yet uncleaned. The lustre of this pink grading up to the termination cranberry-red beauty is off the charts. The lower half of the crystal is partially wrapped in light lavender to off-white lepidolite. The STRIKING pyramidal termination is very gemmy. Hefty at 157 grams!
4.0 x 1.0 x 0.7 cm. A SUPERB, GEM, pencil tourmaline from the famous Tourmaline Queen Mine! This 3-crystal, parallel-growth beauty is a lovely, multi-hued green and I just love the three, distinct terminations. Tourmalines of this quality are RARE from the Queen Mine! Very nearly pristine, this complete all-around gem has only a tiny bit of termination wear and one, single, tiny bruise on a side. Simply outstanding for the species and locality. 6 grams. Ex. George Elling Collection.
