6.5 x 3.3 x 3.1 cm. Two beautiful, gemmy and lustrous, polychrome tourmalines artfully perched on a sliver of albite from the famous Himalaya Mine. The tourmalines reach 2.2 cm and the color zoning is just marvelous, as one crystal is vertically zoned and the other has a green core with a pink outer rind. This is DEFINITELY old material, from the 1960s or before.
3.2 x 1.2 x 1.1 cm. A BEAUTIFUL, KILLER GEM pink tourmaline crystal. This is OLD-TIME material from the 1960s or 70s from the famous Santa Rosa Mine. The pink zoning is exceptional. The matte termination has a bit of edge wear, but is certainly not a detraction, as you can see. 8 grams. Ex. George Elling Collection.
2.8 x 1.7 x 1.1 cm, 2.2 x 0.9 x 0.7 cm, 2.1 x 1.1 x 0.7 cm. No prize-winners for aesthetics, just hard-to-get locality tourmalines. Though they are not terminated, two of the three crystals are quite gemmy.
3.3 x 1.9 x 1.6 cm. Here is a tourmaline from the Cruzeiro that not only is intensely gemmy, but has a rare layer of vivid blue right at the termination - officially making it a "blue-cap" that seems to have a special allure to collectors. You can see a pink core at the bottom of the crystal. There is a bit of mineral attachment here and there. Ex. Steve Smale Collection.
3.8 x 2.1 x 2.0 cm. You could hardly ask for more in a tourmaline specimen of this size range. A single, perfect crystal, pristine and gem-clear from top to bottom, with a fine termination, sticks up out of a coated, euhedral quartz crystal. The tourmaline measures 3.1 cm in length and has a fine bottle-green color.
10.5 x 3.1 x 2.9 cm. Look at the incredible array of color going on in this BIG tourmaline crystal from Brazil! It goes from cranberry, to amber, to bright green, to bright pink at the termination! The termination is undamaged and lustrous. The side faces are lustrous as well. There are a couple of shallow contacts on the sides, but as you can see there is a good display angle that does not show these minor detractions. This wonderful crystal weighs just under 200 grams and GLOWS with color!
6.0 x 3.7 x 2.8 cm. A FAT, gemmy and lustrous, bi-colored, intense raspberry-red and green tourmaline from Coronel Murta, Brazil. The red termination and dispersed red and green colors throughout are STRIKING. The base has been sawed and polished to show the color banding. The crystal is complete all-around. The back is contacted near the base, but is out of sight. Hefty at 135 grams. These came out 3 years ago and I have not seen any of the same style since.
4.8 x 2.0 x 1.7 cm. A beautiful, gemmy and lustrous, bi-colored, doubly terminated tourmaline crystal from the famous Himalaya Mine. This pristine, striated beauty has a pink body with apple-green terminations. The terminations are pinacoidal, but decidedly different and very interesting. Super old material. Ex. George Elling Collection. 33 grams.
2.4 x 0.8 x 0.8 cm (largest). A gorgeous set of 10 gemmy and lustrous, rose-red and light green tourmaline crystals from a new find at Aracuai, Brazil. Nearly all of these glassy beauties are pristine. There are only a couple of trivial bruises. 24 grams total weight.
4.0 x 1.1 x 1.1 cm. Stunningly gemmy from top to bottom, with very beautiful and unusual color! This important old tourmaline is a classic of the 1960s finds at Virgem da Lapa, showing a vibrant hue that is unique to this day. I can recognize a Virgem da Lapa of this style anywhere on sight, it is so unusual. Most of it is lavender, grading to a pleasing pink at the top. Complete all around, with a fine, modified pinacoidal termination. Super lustre, too. Ex. George Elling Collection.
3.9 x 1.9 x 1.5 cm. A crystal of stunning pastel tourmaline from Afghanistan (not Pakistan) with an unusual flattened form, complete all around and terminated. The color in person is not quite as saturated as the pic shows - it is a typical light "aquamarine blue" in reality. This crystal has good transparency, and weighs 14 grams.
10.9 x 3.7 x 3.6 cm. Despite a couple of (unobtrusive lateral) repairs, this huge, DOUBLY-TERMINATED old-timer tourmaline from the Santa Rosa cannot fail to impress! It is doubly terminated, a miracle for the size. The top termination is superbly symmetric. The color goes from bottle green at the bottom, to a light teal, and culminates in a nearly colorless termination with a slight pink to it. The top termination is glassy, with beautiful bevels. (The bottom is the typical flat one). The indentation you see at the edge of the bottom termination is just a natural contact where it grew against another crystal - the bottom termination, like the top, does not have damage. Old specimen from the George Elling tourmaline collection. This whopper is complete all around, and weighs in at 279 grams!
2.3 x 2.1 x 1.7 cm. A gemmy and lustrous, teal-blue, indicolite tourmaline from the famous Stewart Mine of California. Indicolites are RARE from the Stewart and this is a GOOD ONE. The termination is matte-black and the crystal is essentially pristine, with only bit of contacting near the base. 17 grams. Note the striking purple cap!
7.6 x 4.8 x 3.5 cm. A STRIKING, super gemmy and lustrous, doubly terminated, emerald-green tourmaline crystal partially wrapped in lepidolite. This is CLASSIC, OLD-TIME Cruzeiro Mine material from the 60s or 70s. An angled band of cleavelandite caps one part of the crystal. The main termination is moderately etched, while the other is severely etched. No damage to this super gem crystal. The color and lustre are off the charts. Ex. Gene Meieran Collection.
3.9 x 0.6 x 0.5 cm, 2.6 x 0.4 x 0.3 cm, 2.6 x 0.5 x 0.4 cm, 2.4 x 1.1 x 0.9 cm, 2.4 x 0.9 x 0.9 cm. Five gem tourmaline crystals, transparent, with fine bottle-green color. ALL TERMINATED. Total weight 15 grams.
