12.4 x 10.7 x 6.1 cm. This is a massively large dioptase specimen to be in such good condition, almost 5 inches across and with dozens of crystals that are almost pristine with just a few teeny dings or damaged spots of no significance. It is the most desirable style in that they diops are both isolated and on white calcite. Moreover, the calcite is crystallized and not just druse. To make this really top, it does have the absolutely highest lustre you could ask for. The crystals are even translucent when backlit.
9.5 x 5.5 x 3.5 cm. Dioptase crystals to 2 cm on calcite matrix! Ex. Dr. Edward David Collection.
9.5 x 5.0 x 2.7 cm. This remarkable specimen features one of the largest single dioptase crystals I have ever seen or heard of, smack in the middle (3.2 cm or 1.33 inches). It has intense color, the top deep green hue you would want: riveting in the intensity. It has been in Eric's collection for 20 years. Ex. Eric Asselborn Collection.
3.9 x 2.9 x 1.4 cm. Gemmy, flashy little crystals of dioptase are intermixed with tiny rhombs of calcite for a pleasing contrast on this bright, beautiful Tsumeb classic.
7.0 x 6.3 x 3.7 cm. Emerald-green, gemmy dioptase crystals to 7 mm RICHLY and aesthetically line a vertical vug set in calcite matrix on this showy and excellent specimen from an UNCOMMON dioptase locality - the Dumesnil Quarry, Cordoba, Argentina. Ex Dave Stoudt Collection. Dave worked and lived in Buenos Aires and purchased this there during that time.
2.2 x 1.7 x 1.1 cm. This is superb dioptase thumbnail. On crystallized white calcite are aesthetically perched, emerald green, gemmy, lustrous dioptase crystals to 1.3 cm.
6.8 x 5.2 x 4.4 cm. An exposed, 3-dimensional pocket filled with BIG, LUSTROUS crystals of the finest "Tsumeb-like" color and luster. There are crystals here to 0.8 cm on edge. Dioptase always looks better in person than in photos, but the closeup shows you the gemminess and glassiness of these superb crystals.
7.5 x 6.4 x 4.4 cm. A fascinating AND pretty copper-mineral combo from Congo. On the side of a shallow pocket, on a layer of shiny smoky quartz crystals, is a cluster of superb dioptase crystals (the long one measures 1.8 cm) in the form of a cross. The isolation of this cluster makes it really jump out at you - MUCH more so than in the photos! Nearby are patches of rare shattuckite (Copper Silicate Hydroxide), with turquoise-blue color.
15.9 x 13.3 x 8.4 cm. This is the side of a large pocket covered with incredibly lustrous, bright and sparkly crystals of dioptase - like little gems! Though the crystals are not large, they are of the best Tsumeb quality. What makes it really attractive is that the dioptase crystals are isolated on a bed of white calcite, which sets them off perfectly with a pretty contrast. This is a BIG specimen, and the area of dioptase stretches a full 10 cm!
6.5 x 5.4 x 3.9 cm. This is a fine Tsumeb dioptase with small crystals of intense jewel-like quality and color, against a matrix of contrasting little calcite rhombs.
10.8 x 6.9 x 3.5 cm. A DRAMATIC and sculptural quartz-lined CABINET vug aesthetically and richly filled with very gemmy, elongated, emerald-green dioptase crystals and beautifully highlighted by a freestanding, prominent, 1.4 cm cerussite crystal. This REMARKABLE and VERY RARE combination specimen is from Reneville, Republic of Congo. Cerussite is unheard of from Reneville, so this is a UNIQUE combination specimen, dating to the 1950s or 60s. Ex. Charles Levitt Collection.
3.4 x 2.8 x 1.8 cm. This cluster of beautiful and sharp Dioptase crystals from Kaokoveld is a near floater, with only one small contact and otherwise complete all around! The Dioptases are highly lustrous, gemmy, and range up to 1 cm in length. Ex. Charlie Key.
10.3 x 6 x 3.4 cm. A fabulous natural pocket or seam of Dioptase and Malachite from one of the world's great localities. The Dioptase has excellent luster and a wonderful dark green color that is not so dark it looks black, and not so light it looks pale. It has a shimmering lustre. The longest dioptase crystal is 1.3 cm, although many approach this - in several areas along the seam. Interestingly malachite is not often found in direct association with dioptase, and the Malachite ball is about 1.4 cm in size. Ex. Charlie Key.
9 x 8 x 4 cm. A gorgeous 5 cm pocket of super-gemmy and highly lustrous Dioptase crystals generously spread out around the pocket. The sharp crystals range up to about .7 cm, on average. The contrast with the calcite sprinkled atop and the blue chrysocolla around it makes this an awesome display specimen. Ex. Charlie Key.
3.6 x 2.9 x 2.8 cm. A knob, nearly a floater with just a tiny contact on the bottom, of dioptase crystals from the prime worldwide locality for the species, Tsumeb. These crystals do not have the clean, green, glassy surfaces you want most in a dioptase, admittedly - natural internal fracturing and complex micro-terracing on the faces gives them a mottled appearance. However, the crystals are large, to one centimeter along the edge, so this is still a significant cluster.
