9.2 x 5.6 x 4.5 cm. A large hand-sized dioptase specimen of SOLID dioptase. It consists of dioptase that filled in natural cavities in the rock, so thickly the reverse casts stuck and formed one solid dioptase specimen when the rock was removed. In this mass, there is a long cavity, in which free crystals grow to 1.3 cm. On the edge of the cavity, there is another pocket of crystals facing out, which features one 2-cm-long, doubly-terminated crystal. Ex. Charlie Key Collection.
8.7 x 7.2 x 4.2 cm. This specimen features SHARP, unusually isolated dioptase crystals to 1.5 cm. Interestingly they are perched/embedded inside a thick nodule of massive plancheite, making for a neat contrast. Ex. Charlie Key Collection.
3.8 x 2.6 x 1.2 cm. Dioptase is known from a few world localities in superb quality specimens, but recently there was a find of new material in the Pool Region of the Congo. These specimens show great color, with larger sized crystals and EXCELLENT gemminess. This particular specimen is comprised of a very sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy, rich emerald green color Dioptase crystals on minor matrix, forming a very attractive overall specimen. This find seemed to be somewhat limited, and hopefully will produce more of this SUPERB quality Dioptase.
6.4 x 5.3 x .3.5 cm. What makes this Tsumeb dioptase specimen so gorgeous is that the small, intensely sparkling crystals are isolated on the contrasting white calcite rather than being massed together - which really makes them jump out at you. Of course, ALL Tsumeb dioptases are now highly sought-after - they and azurites are probably THE stars of this famous locality which probably ranks as the most productive of great specimens in history.
6.8 x 4.3 x 1.9 cm. A showy and sculptural Tsumeb specimen of lustrous, translucent calcite rhombs nicely sprinkled with tiny dioptase crystals. A classy and classic Tsumeb combo piece. Ex. George Elling Collection.
2.9 x 1.8 x 1.2 cm. An EXCELLENT example of RARELY SEEN minerals in combination - native silver with dioptase! The piece consists of oxidized, massive to platy silver dusted with dioptase microcrystals. The partially hidden dioptase-lined vug at the top of the piece is particularly rich and striking. This is old material, from the 1960s or older, from a VERY RARE locality for silver, but not dioptase - Mindouli, Republic Of The Congo. Ex. Jean Behier and George Elling Collections. Unique in my experience save one other that came with this (this is the better of the two).
A shockingly large, doubly-terminated, translucent crystal of dioptase! This is nearly as large as a crystal of this species can get in length, if not thickness. It is flattish, contacted natrually, in back, but form the front shows all bevels and looks quite 3-dimensional. It has one small contact in front, and no damage. This is a MAJOR dioptase and a killer small miniature by any standard!! 3.6 x 1.2 x 1.0 cm
7.0 x 5.4 x 2.7 cm. A SUPERB and VERY RICH for the locality and species dioptase specimen from the UNCOMMON Cobre Mine of Peru. Two "mountains" of dioptase crystals are surrounded by isolated, very gemmy and lustrous, emerald-green dioptase crystals on this AESTHETIC piece. This is the best Peruvian dioptase that I have seen. The tan, botryoidal mineral and the blue chrysocolla are a very nice contrast and accent.
10.2 x 10.0 x 6.6 cm. The whole face of this large matrix is covered with fine dioptase crystals! Pics never do quite capture dioptase, but suffice it to say this is the “classic” Tsumeb green with a fine, glassy luster. Very hard to find these days with Tsumeb dioptase prices being what they are!
4.6 x 4.2 x 2.4 cm. A SUPERB and AESTHETIC Tsumeb specimen. Isolated, very gemmy and lustrous, emerald-green dioptase crystals to 1.4 cm are BEAUTIFULLY scattered on sculptural matrix of sparkly, tiny, white calcite rhombs. ALL of the dioptase crystals are pristine, except for a very trivial, barely noticeable bruise, on the lower front edge of the large crystal. Discrete gemmy dioptase crystals on white calcite are THE most desirable Tsumeb dioptase combination.
2.7 x 2.2 x 0.5 cm. An EXCELLENT example of RARELY SEEN minerals in combination - native silver with dioptase! The piece consists of bright to oxidized, massive to platy silver dusted with dioptase microcrystals. This is old material, from the 1960s or older, from a VERY RARE for silver, but not dioptase locality - Mindouli, Republic Of The Congo. Ex. Jean Behier and George Elling Collections. Unique in my experience save one other that we recently auctioned.
5.0 x 4.2 x 2.3 cm. Dioptase is known from a few world localities in superb quality specimens, but recently there was a find of new material in the Pool Region of the Congo. These specimens show great color, with large sized crystals and EXCELLENT gemminess. This particular specimen is comprised of very sharp, highly lustrous, GEMMY, rich emerald green color Dioptase crystals measuring up to 1.7 cm on matrix forming a very attractive overall specimen. This find seemed to be somewhat limited, and hopefully will produce more of this SUPERB quality Dioptase.
4.2 x 3.0 x 1.7 cm. A beautiful, classic combo piece with sharp dioptase to 6mm on sparkling, contrasting, crystallized calcite. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
5.2 x 2.9 x 2.8 cm. Another example of the classic Tsumeb combo everybody wants, but this time the dioptase crystals are small and sugary, so it looks like you spilled glitter over the stark white crystallized calcite rhombs! Ex. Charlie Key stock.
5.7 x 4.4 x 2.2 cm. Brilliant dioptase crystals to 7mm, perched on contrasting sparkling white calcite matrix. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
