Gemmy green crystals of dioptase ISOLATED on a matrix of light greenish-blue chrysocolla! There are actually dioptase crystals on the back as well, indicating that the matrix was exposed on both sides in the pocket. 8 x 6.8 x 2.4 cm

Dioptase, Calcite from Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-66847a.jpg]

A SUPERB and GORGEOUS Tsumeb specimen of GEM, emerald-green dioptase crystals in isolation and in groups on a mound of pearlescent calcite. Dioptase is one of the most difficult minerals to photograph correctly. The photos do not do the dioptase crystals justice, but they do show the gemmyness of the crystals. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. 8.2 x 4.8 x 3.7 cm

Dioptase from Kaokoveld Mine, Kaokoveld Plateau, Kunene Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-70832a.jpg]

Kaokoveld is near Tsumeb, but the mining of dioptases has never been pursued with the same vigor as Tsumeb and therefore the specimens are much more uncommon. In some cases, they have every bit of the color and luster of a good Tsumeb piece, as with this specimen. This is a cluster of elongated crystals (one of them is 1.5 cm!), all terminated. The color is tops in person, though pics of dioptases never look quite right. Top luster, too. 3.2 x 1.7 x 1.4 cm

Arizona dioptases are hard to obtain. This one is covered with small, sparkly, super-bright crystals. 6.1 x 4.0 x 1.8 cm

WOW! This is just an AMAZING dioptase specimen, especially for Russia (the type locality - no, it is NOT Tsumeb!). It features a HUGE, FAT crystal 1.7 cm from top to bottom and 1 cm thick, that crowns a cluster of smaller crystals of equally fine luster and color. This is just a standout specimen for what it is. 4.1 x 3.2 x 2.4 cm

Dioptase, Calcite from Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-70897a.jpg]

Gemmy and lustrous, emerald-green dioptase crystals to 9 mm on a nicely contrasting, aesthetically shaped matrix of sparkly, off-white calcite from Tsumeb. This fine piece comes with a Prosper Williams label, a prominent Tsumeb dealer in the 1970s and early 1980s. Dioptase on calcite from Tsumeb is much sought after. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON! 4.0 x 3.2 x 2.0 cm

Yet another Pough beauty - look at the almost WET-looking luster of these fabulous dioptase crystals. Top color, too, and nice association with cerussite. The old label indicates that it was acquired in 1975 and was actually in the thumbnail collection of Fay Pough. Fine thumber with a fine pedigree! 1.4 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm

A BEAUTIFUL and SHOWY Tsumeb specimen of very gemmy, emerald-green dioptase crystals festooning a lightweight crust of malachite. Dioptase on malachite is uncommon from Tsumeb and this is a very fine piece. 7.7 x 6.6 x 3.1 cm

A beautiful cluster of very glassy and gemmy, dark emerald-green dioptase crystals to 1.5 cm from the classic locality of Reneville, Republic of the Congo. A very fine specimen from the Fred Pough Collection. The backlit photos highlight the intense green color and gemmyness. 2.7 x 2.1 x 1.6 cm

4.6 x 3.7 x 2.9 cm. Scattered crystals of glassy and gemmy, intense green dioptase, to 1.3 cm across, are emplaced on rhombs of colorless calcite over a matrix of brownish-pink dolomite. The color and texture contrast are remarkable. This is a fine miniature of one of the most classic minerals in the mineral world, probably from the 1970s finds here.

Just plain PRETTY! Euhedral crystals of calcite sprinkled with super-bright green dioptase crystals as if out of a pepper shaker! Tsumeb dioptases are always at their best on backgrounds of white calcite – really makes the color jump. In very good shape, with just a color of VERY small and unobtrusive bruises. 6 x 5.2 x 4.8 cm

Exactly what it looks like - a REALLY good specimen of dioptase of the topmost quality, on calcite matrix! Specimens of this quality, are almost unobtainable now and the prices escalate EVERY year. Since no more has been found from Tsumeb in 30 years, they should only keep going up in value as the stuff is quite simply one of the most beautiful things in the mineral world and nearly all collectors really wants one at some point. This is the best specimen I have had for the 5-10k range in some time.
