An OLD Russian dioptase, as evidenced by the Ward''s label that is still with it. The fine green crystals measure to 0.7 cm. The crystals around the edge are contacted on the periphery, but the display side is in fine shape. 4.9 x 4.0 x 2.5cm

This Russian dioptase is notable not for the size of its crystals, but for its amazing, richness, color and sparkle! The display side of the specimen is particularly pretty in that the dioptase crystals are outlined by the matrix, which slopes gently back to frame them. Large and showy specimen! 10.6 x 5.7 x 4.3cm

GORGEOUS, GEM-LIKE, emerald-green dioptase crystals to 8mm are beautifully set on an aesthetically shaped crust of sparkly dolomite from Tsumeb. The dioptase crystals are transparent. For the size, this is one of the finest dioptase specimens we have offered at auction. 4.8 x 2.2 x 2.2 cm

Measure this out on a ruler! This is one BIG dioptase specimen! If it were from TSUMEB, you'd be looking at a piece 3-4x more expensive. For some reason, even when they are as good as tsumeb material such as this piece is, Russian diop's do not get the monetary respect they deserve and so a big cabinet piece from Russia is a relative bargain compared to its peers from Africa. Ironic, as this is the type , original , locality for the species! What makes this piece special is both the rich coverage and the 3-dimensional topography that means it is not just a flat plate. The calcite, as an accent, is most unusual and really makes the piece even more special. The display face is simply incredibly stunning in person, with green flashes coming at you every which way. As with all photographed dioptase, it is MORE IMPRESSIVE IN PERSON. 16.8 x 9 x 4.5 cm

MD-53177 - Dioptase, Malachite - - Archived

Dioptase, Malachite from Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-53177a.jpg]

An unusual association for the mine, with malachite druse on top of dioptase! The color is phenomenal on the diop and the association with velvety light green malachite serves to enhance and contrast the darker, emerald-green dioptase! The diop crystals are to 1 cm and this is a rich, solid cluster of dioptase: quite a bit of it for the price, I think. 6.4 x 3.7 x 1.9 cm

A killer toenail featuring a 2.25 x 1 x 1 cm dioptase crystal perched atop a natural pedestal. No damage, this is pristine! The aesthetics are incredible. Would trim slightly to a full thumbnail, as well... 3.1 x 2.3 x 1.8 cm

As is always the case with dioptase, it is hard to capture the deep green color - and this fine miniature is no exception. In person, it has the best "Tsumeb" green color and top luster. There are a couple of little bruises at the edges of the cluster, but overall this specimen is in fine shape and very pretty! 3.4 x 3.1 x 2.7cm

A very pretty toenail-sized specimen of small, bright, gemm and deep green dioptase crystals (better color in person, it just does not come out in pics), on sharp euhedral crystals of calcite! 3.7 x 2.6 x 1.7cm

MD-54510 - Dioptase - - Archived

These dioptases are very difficult to photograph. But in person, the crystals on this specimen are the best TSUMEB green, and GEMMY and sharp! That "whitish" look in the pics just is not there in person. These crystals are not particularly large, but they contrast beautifully with the matrix and really jump out at you. Only a few bruised crystals at the edge of the cluster. 6.9 x 6.4 x 2.8cm
