Beautiful complex crystals with great clarity and superb luster. Datolites are more commonly equidimensional, so these complex tabular crystals are very attractive and unusual. There is some minor edge wear, but it is hardly noticeable in the sharp brightness of these crystals.

Datolite - Caledonia Mine, Ontonogan County, Michigan, USA

A beautiful half-geode with the most consistent red datolite you could ask for. These datolite nodules are quite rare in such quality, and highly prized by collectors who know their ins and outs. This one is a particularly fine piece for the red variety (the color is due to copper), and is from several prominent collections. I recently saw the exhibit of the Seaman Museum's specimens up in Michigan, and this would fit right in, for quality and visual impact, to their case of the best of them. Note it is so reflective a polish tha tyou can see my photographers reflection!

Datolite - Isle Royale National Park, Lake Superior, Keweenaw Co., Michigan, USA

8.3 x 6.0 x 3.3 cm. An VERY FINE, large, sliced and polished datolite nodule half from Michigan’s Copper Country. This white beauty is porcelaneous and has an unusual pastel-green core with dentritic, red highlights on the edges (caused by copper , I presume). This showy piece is from Isle Royal in Lake Superior, where not too many datolite nodules have been recovered. Ex. Seaman Museum Collection.

7.2 x 6.4 x 2.8 cm. A showy and excellent, slabbed and polished red datolite nodule nicely set in matrix from the Mesnard Mine of Michigan. The datolite has a nice porcelaneous look and the red color is the result of copper inclusions. Red datolite nodules from Copper Country are always in demand. Ex. Datolite - Dal'negorsk (Dalnegorsk; Tetyukhe; Tjetjuche; Tetjuche), Primorskiy Kray, Far-Eastern Region, Russia

4.8 x 3.4 x 2.6 cm. These datolites are just amazingly gemmy, like a water-clear quartz or calcite - which is NOT typical for the species and makes this mini stand out. (They are colorless in person - the green tint came from the lighting/camera.) Also, datolites tend to be rather clunky specimens with more matrix than datolite, but the crystals are dominant on this one. They measure to 2 cm.

6.7 x 4.5 x 1.8 cm. showy and excellent, slabbed green and white datolite nodule from the Centennial Mine of Michigan. The datolite has a nice porcelaneous white rim and the green interior color is the result of copper inclusions. The rind has a nice knobby look and the interior growth patterns in the green area reflect the botryoidal character of the outside. Ex. Frank Henderson and Seaman Museum Collections. Mr. Henderson donated his collection to the Seaman in 1978.
