4.7 x 2.2 x 0.8 cm. A really fine, floater specimen of lustrous, brick-red cuprite coating a very aesthetic, arborescent cluster of spinel-twinned copper crystals from the well-known Rio Tinto Mine of Elk County, Nevada. An excellent, highly crystallized copper from this locale. Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection.
8.9 x 5.8 x 4.5 cm. Gemmy and lustrous, scintillating, blood-red cuprite crystals to 4 mm cover all sides of the copper matrix on this major copper ore specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. Cuprite and copper specimens of this richness are uncommon from this renowned locale. From Level 41. Ex. Rob Smith Collection.
This gorgeous specimen features a sharp crystal to 1.6 cm on edge, nestled firmly in matrix by adjacent clusters of primary malachite. The color contrast is striking, particularly when the cuprite is backlit to show off its internal red hue. These are getting more rare by the year due to changes in mining patterns over there. 4.5 x 3.7 x 1.9 cm
14.4 x 11.4 x 4.3 cm. A very rich and fine cabinet pseudomorph of rust-red copper after sharp cuprite crystals to 5 mm covering a curved crust of solid copper from the Morenci Mine of Arizona. Super-rich copper ore here from a renowned locale and the richness of the cuprite pseudomorphs is uncommon. This would be considered a fairly major Morenci copper specimen, pseudomorph or not. From the Consie Prince old dealer stock.
A rich specimen chock full of METALLIC, BRILLIANT RED acicular crystals of Chalcotrichite - for the size of the piece, quality, and richness it is one of the very best I have seen from these new finds 6.5 x 5.5 x 3.4 cm
11.0 x 7.8 x 2.5 cm. A fine, exotic-looking cabinet combination specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. This two-sided specimen features starbursts of sparkly, colorless mimetite needles richly scattered amongst tiny rosettes of green malachite. The mimetite and malachite rest on, and partially replace, rust-brown cuprite crystals, that coat the very sculptural, thin matrix crust of sulfides. Ex. Rob Smith Collection, a noted Tsumeb specialist.
15.6 x 7.2 x 5.4 cm. A unique, sculptural, large cabinet copper specimen from the mines at Bisbee. This copper specimen looks like a pointed trowel or carpenter’s plane with a handle. Cuprite causes the intense, rust-red color. The bottom of the "trowel" and the underside of the "handle" have striking, arborescent copper growth patterns. This is old material from Bisbee. Ex. Mullane Collection.
8.0 x 4.3 x 1.5 cm. Partially gemmy, lustrous, octahedral, wine-red cuprite crystals are richly and attractively scattered on matrix plate covered with chrysocolla. The cuprite crystals reach 1.0 cm. A couple of chatoyant malachite sprays amongst the cuprites are a nice accent. This fine specimen is from the highly regarded late 1980s finds at the Dikuluwe Mine of Zaire. Ex. Don Belsher Collection.
8.5 x 6.5 x 5.0 cm. Lustrous, blood-red cuprite octahedrons to 1.5 cm richly and beautifully cover the milky quartz matrix on this fine, old-time specimen from the less well-known Marke Valley Mine of Linkinhorne, Cornwall. Classic, very rich material from historic Cornwall.
Richly covered, lustrous blood-red to wine-red crusts of chalcotrichite on matrix from the Cole Shaft of the Copper Queen Mine at Bisbee. Old and very desirable material from Bisbee, especially since the specific mine shaft locality is known, meaning that this was an important specimen when it was collected. 6.8 x 4.4 x 2.4 cm
You can make out small, dark, euhedral crystals of cuprite on the surface of the massive copper with matrix in this Arizona specimen. 4.4 x 3.4 x 2.7 cm
2.1 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm. A fine historic Cuprite/Malachite specimen from one of the most classic localities in all of Europe. Typically the Cuprite specimens from Chessy are found in single "floater" crystals, but this piece is an actual group of sharp, very well defined octahedra (and modified octahedra) of deep red Cuprite altering to mint-green Malachite. The crystal faces have a small amount of luster, and are amazingly smooth for the age of the specimen. This specimen was mined in the early 1800s, as noted on Rich Kosnar's label that accompanies the piece, so it's nearly 200 years old. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.
7.8 x 7.8 x 5.5 cm. A 1.0 cm, sharp, gemmy and lustrous, wine-red cuprite crystal is nicely set in the corner of a very sculptural vug lined with glassy, white, calcite rhombs from the Tsumeb Mine. A fine combination specimen from the Rob Smith Collection.
1.2 x 1.0 x 0.8 cm. A sharp, lustrous, deep wine-red cuprite thumbnail nicely accented with primary malachite from the Emke Mine at Onganja. This complete-all-around crystal is nearly pristine. From the famous 1973 find. A rare thumbnail from the George Feist Collection.
7.0 x 5.9 x 2.1 cm. A classic, old-time specimen from the 13 Level of the Levant Mine of Cornwall of hackly copper richly covered on both sides with sparkly, deep wine-red cuprite microcrystals. The bit of attached matrix is a nice accent to this showy, historic piece. Ex. Wesley Stark Collection.
