3D14 - Malachite ps. Cuprite - $ 400 SOLD Chessy, Lyons, Rhone-Alpes, France thumbnail, 2 x 2 x 1.8 cm ex. Marilyn Dodge
Very sharp and attractive pseudomorph. Both the color and form are excellent, and the beveled edges make this particularly attractive. Slightly hoppered on some rear faces, but unusually sharp in front display faces as well. A classic from this famous
3D46 - Malachite ps. Cuprite - $ 175 SOLD Chessy, Lyons, Rhone-Alpes, France thumbnail, 0.9 x .8 x .7 cm ex. Marilyn Dodge
Sharp, very attractive , classic example of this famous pseudomorph! However, its MUCH sharper than normal, and really exquisite in person. It is so sharp, in fact, she had it labelled as a garnet from France...but it ain't!
AZMEX04 - Copper ps. after Cuprite on copper - $ 1500 SOLD Bisbee, Warren District, Cochise County, Arizona, USA miniature, 5.0 x 3.7 x 2.4 cm ex. George A. Koenig ex. Les and Paula Presmyk ex. Seaman Mineralogical Museum
This type of pseudomorph is exceedingly rare in nature. It is an old time specimen that was once part of the Koenig collection at the Seaman Museum at Michigan Tech. Sparkling modified cubes, to .50 cm across, of what was once cuprite, now exhibit the rich brown color of copper. Looking closely at the matrix affords the viewer with glimpses of native copper. This unusual specimen is further enhanced by its pedigree as if it wasn't enough to be originating in America’s premier secondary copper deposit, Bisbee.
CDX-33 - Cuprite - $ 200 SOLD Ray Mine, Pinal Co., Arizona, USA thumbnail, 2.0 x 1.7 x 1.6 cm
Perched aesthetically on limonite matrix is a cube of lustrous, translucent cuprite, measuring .6 cm across.
CKTSU-21 - Cuprite on Copper - $ 950 Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia small cabinet, 6.5 x 3.9 x 0.5 cm ex. Charlie Key
This thin, dendritic, "fan" of 100% crystallized copper has been colored red by the minute inclusion of cuprite. There are also several, lustrous, red, SHARP crystals of cuprite, to 1mm across, scattered on the copper specimen....all thos ebumps you can see in the large version of the top-right image. Unusual! If not from Charlie himself, and with those sharp little primary cuprites perched on top to mark this as not being from Michigan, I would frankly not believe it. A significant piece because few Tsumeb collections are graced by an aesthetic copper: despite its mineralogical wealth of copper based minerals, Tsumeb seems to have rarely produced good primary copper in crystalline form
CKTSU-39 - Cuprite on Dolomite with Malachite - $ 1750 Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia small cabinet, 7.8 x 4.7 x 2.8 cm ex. Charlie Key
A crust of lustrous white dolomite is partially stained green by malachite. Situated on right side of the specimen is a compound cluster of gemmy and lustrous, bright red cuprite crystals. The rosette measures 2 cm across. Visually, this specimen is very pleasing to the eye and unusually atrtractive for a Tsumeb cuprite in particular. MUCH MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!!!
CKTSU-42 - Cerussite with Chalcotrichite inclusions on Malachite - $ 6000 SOLD Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia small cabinet, 6.2 x 5.3 x 4.5 cm ex. Charlie Key
One of the rarest occurrences at Tsumeb is when chalcotrichite, the fibrous phase of cuprite, includes other minerals. Here we have a shockingly contrasting green malachite matrix which has encased an etched cerussite crystal 3 cm across. The cerussite has a reddish-orange color and fine luster. Rare and very unusual in this size, and on any kind of matrix at all!
D10-112 - Malachite ps. after Cuprite - $ 1450 SOLD Chessy, near Lyons, Rhone, France thumbnail, 2.0 x 1.4 x 1.4 cm ex. Lawrence Conklin
A superb, highly modified floater crystal that shows unusual symmetry and perfection of the surface. The surface alteration to malachite is complete, without scratches or fading. It is a gorgeous example of this classic old material from the 1800s. However, more than that, the complex crystal habit makes it stand out from the crowd of generally simple octohedral crystals and is simply one of the most interesting I have had. This look slike a crystal carving! It carries an old label from Hugh Ford, dated 1946-1957. Recently in the collection of Lawrence Conklin. It seems pricey for a thumbnail of these, maybe, but all i can say is tha tit is truly superior, seen in person, and relatively large as well
D10-113 - Cuprite - $ 300 SOLD Old Dominion Mine, Globe, Gila County, Arizona thumbnail, 2.8 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm ex. Lawrence Conklin
Classic old material, rarely seen in such quality! This is a superb thumbnail, nearly complete all around and with sharp crystals to 9mm. Recently in the collection of Lawrence Conklin
D29 - Cuprite altering to Malachite - $ 125 SOLD Chessy , Lyon, Rhone-Alpes, France thumbnail, 1 x .9 x .9 cm ex. Marilyn Dodge
A fine octahedron with modified edges that has excellent luster. Chessy is one of the world’s finest localities for Cuprite, and this is a good example of the species showing alteration to malachite which is classic for the locale.
EDD3 - Cuprite with Malachite - $ 7500 SOLD ex. Dr. Edward E. David Collection miniature, 3.8 x 3.5 x 3.2 cm ex. Dr. Edward David
An incredibly weird and unique specimen, like no other I have seen from Onganja. The crystal is wonderfully 3-dimensional and complete all around! I have seen small hoppered cuprites, to be sure, from a number of localities. But, in this size, the habit seems quite uncommon
ES19 - Cuprite on Malachite - $ 350 SOLD Mashamba West Mine, Shaba Province, People’s Republic of the Congo(formerly Zaire) miniature, 4.6 x 4.2 x 3 cm ex. Ernie Schlichter
This is one of the world’s great localities for cuprite, sadly no longer producing. This specimen is covered on the left side by cuprite crystals to .7 cm, but on the right side there is one sharp octahedral crystal measuring over 1 cm. All the cuprite crystals exhibit some lustrous, etched faces. When backlit, they all have bright red highlights.
FC17 - Cuprite on Copper - $ 6000 SOLD Tsumeb, Namibia miniature, 5.2 x 3.2 x 1.5 cm ex. James and Marjorie Ferguson
An exquisite specimen, with SHARP, METALLIC< fiery red cuprite crystals perched on sharp, elongated copper cyrstals. Copper of this quality is extremely uncommon for Tsumeb. Cuprite more so in any kind of good cubic form, let alone with such lustre! The combo....seen only a few times, in small pockets. This is an exceptional competition-quality miniature. It is MUCH better in person, too.
ge01 - Cuprite (SET) - $ 5200 Emke Mine, Onganja, Namibia miniature, 4.7 x 2.9 x 2.8 cm
GEM: 1.7 x 1.4 x 0.9 cm (9.19 carats) A superb miniature, with two very 3-dimensional crystals intergrown, and complete. When backlit strongly this cluster GLOWS with the same deep cherry red color that you see in this unusually large and clean cut gemstone. I paid $3000 for this large stone of SUPER quality, to make a wonderful set. I think the specimen is a value, as well. Together, they complement nicely in size.
HBRU-04 - Cerussite (included by Chalcotrichite) - $ 6000 SOLD Tsumeb, Namibia thumbnail, 2.0 x 1.6 x 0.8 cm ex. Helmut Bruckner ex. Willy Israel
Not from the Bruckner Collection, but something I had to get posted soon anyhow...this is a fantastic cerussite crystal from Tsumeb, of a very rare style. The color , blood red, is due to minute iinclusions of cuprite inside. Such cerussite came from only a few pockets, and this is the rarest of styles for the color - a "normal" cerussite twin as opposed to the usual etched, elongated, or melted-type appearance this material usually takes. Complete on both sides, translucent, and just breathtaking for color, this is one of the finest Tsumeb thumbnails I have had the pleasure of handling, for my tastes. It is indeed expensive, no question, but its unique. I had this first perhaps 3 years ago, and was recently able to trade it back from the owner.
