51J - Chrome Cerussite with Crocoite - $ 1800 SOLD Comet Mine, Dundas, Tasmania, Australia small cabinet, 5.9 x 5.1 x 3.3 cm ex. Dr. Edward David
This specimen has an unusual type of cerussite with discrete coloration due to chromium rich content, and the sharp crystals reach .7 cm across. In person, they are a bit more yellow than appears here. Studded on the cerussite are bright orange prisms of crocoite, to .3 cm across. Rare and unusual material to begin with but in association with crocoite...this I have only but once before seen for sale! For some reason, the cerussite and crocoite zones seem to not overlap often. This is an old piece, though I do not know how old. Ed thought 30-40 years.
D06-244 - Embreyite, Vauquelenite, Crocoite - $ 750 SOLD Berezoeff Mine, Urals, Russia (TYPE LOCALITY) small cabinet, 6.0 x 5.4 x 4.6 cm ex. Harvard University ex. Phil Scalisi
This specimen is from the type locality for ALL THREE SPECIES HERE, and features rich zones of all three as well.It has prismatic orange crocoite crystals to 2 cm in length, mostly broken but nice for the color. Olive green vauquelinite occurs as chalky, green growths on crocoite. More than 200 years after these specimens were discovered, the extremely rare species embreyite was discovered on similar old specimens in the drawers of the BMNH; and then other old specimens in major holdings were re-examined. This piece has a particularly rich cluster of admittedly ugly, but mineralogically important, crystals of this more recently identified species (the minute black crystals, nestled in a vug). It is an eccentric, but very fine specimen!
D10-26 - Crocoite (rare crystal habit) - $ 475 SOLD Adelaide Mine, Dundas, Tasmania, Australia miniature, 5.0 x 4.0 x 3.5 cm ex. Al Ordway
Extremely bright red color and top lustre make this a beautiful piece anyhow, but more importantly it has a rare crystal habit for the species. The crystals are "pointy" , or bipyramidal, instead of the typical elongated rodlike crystals we usually see in all the photos of famous finds here. In fact, the first crocoites from Russia, and later examples from Brazil and a few other scarce locales, share this habit ; but it is rare from (Tasmania) Australia which, ironically, hosts the most productive localities for the species. Again, though, desipite the rarity of crystal style this piece holds its own as a superlative miniature
den07-26 - Crocoite - $ 1550 SOLD Congonhas de Campo, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil cabinet, 9.6 x 7.0 x 3.8 cm ex. Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences ex. William Vaux
One largest crystal here is 1.4 cm, the best I have seen for the locale! This is very old material, and seldom seen for sale. The piece overall is extremely rich, and really quite attractive all things considered. It s an important addition, I would think, to any copper or Brazilian collection in particular.
LW97 - Crocoite - $ 2500 SOLD Red Lead Mine, Dundas, Tasmania small cabinet, 8.7 x .7 x .6 cm ex. Martin Lewadny
Superb single crystal of Crocoite with excellent luster and classic red color. Aside from the amazing size and robustness of this crystal, another aspect that makes it exemplary is the fact that the crystal is a partially hollow tube! This is a truly exceptional piece of oldstyle crocoite. They just do not make them like this any more!

The largest prismatic crystal is an amazing 2.2 x .4 x .4 cm in size. Just a knockout! Note the sharp triangular terminations and the stunning overall color impact!

26.1 x 15.4 x 4.4 cm. This is a rare (and incredibly large and rich) crocoite specimen from the TYPE LOCALITY in the Ural Mountains of Russia! Measuring to 2 cm, these flattened crystals formed in a lacy patch on the surface of the matrix, which was then trimmed out to create a nice frame for the crocoite cluster. The crystals have good color and very flashy luster! Some are damaged, some are simply contacted as they grew in a thin seam against overlaying matrix, and some are just intact as can be – it’s a mix. But overall, this is incredibly flashy, colorful, and quite significant for the locality.
