This is a major matrix piece for the discovery, to date. Aesthetically perched high on its matrix is a doubly terminated, lustrous and translucent, cherry red crystal of ruby, measuring 2.2 cm in length. Very nice form and sharpness make it stand out dramatically! This crystal is unlike most others from here, very well formed. Compared to other locales, these rubies are sharper with better defined faces, than you normally see in a natural crystal.
A large piece: the matrix is composed primarily of massive corundum, and host to a few lustrous and translucent crystals, of lavender to rose red ruby/sapphire. The large crystal is doubly terminated and measures 3.0 cm across. There is a negative impression on the back of the main crystal where another ruby was once in contact but the display face presents nicely. This is a lot of color, and large crystals, in matrix, for the price compared to the asking prices on generally smaller crystals (many with facet rough which added value we have to pay as specimen collectors to keep them from being cut).
Nestled in a vug of massive corundum is a lustrous and translucent, lavender to rose red colored ruby crystal, measuring 2.2 cm in length. Very aesthetic! This is a large, well-defined crystal of unusual size for this locality. Note the slight internal gradation to sapphire, visible when backlit. In normal lighting, it is a much more typical ruby color, at least on the surface zones. This larger specimen looks much better in person - quite dramatic in a case. The presentation of the crystal in matrix is more typical of other matrix gem crystals compared to the generally smaller examples we are otherwise seeing from this deposit.
Perched high on its matrix is a lustrous and translucent, cherry red crystal of ruby, measuring 1.2 cm in length. Minor chipping is present around the edges, unfortunately, but it still is a showy gem ruby and now at a reduced price. Interestingly, note the sharp sapphire zone to one edge, of this crystal which is otherwise as pure a ruby as you could wish for.
This is a killer thumbnail specimen, my favorite matrix thumbnail from the lot that I had. A bit of matrix is host for 2 crystals of lustrous and translucent, cherry red ruby with exquisite micro-details on the faces and sharp bevelled edges. The larger one, exhibiting superb crystal form, measures 1.5 cm across. These ruby crystals are totally unique in form, and combined with color and gemminess make for a dramatic matrix presentation that is unlike rubies from any other locality in the world, so far as I know.Because of the balance and aesthetics of this specimen, and the quality of the ruby crystals (which have some cutting value as well), I regard this specimen very highly. Thumbnail or not, its superb. Bu as a thumbnail, for overall balance and poise, I think it is the highest competition-level quality.
Perched aesthetically atop a dark black matrix is a single, well formed crystal of glassy and gemmy, rose red ruby, measuring .7 cm across. It has some internal cracking, but these do not come to the surface and the form, for the price, is very dramatic!
Emplaced atop a matrix of gemmy, massive sapphire, are several lustrous and translucent, rose red ruby crystals, to .7 cm in length. The overall effect of a small flower opening up is very pleasing. These crystals, though small, are super-gemmy and lustrous!
Aesthetically crowning the top of a massive sapphire matrix are several lustrous and translucent, rose red to cherry red crystals of ruby. A larger, VERY sharp ruby crystal to 1.25 cm in length dominates the middle. Impressive overall for the richness and the color, with a prominently displayed dominant crystal as well! The sharp habit and intense color of these crystals is unlike ruby from other localities, and immediately recognizable as something "new".
This specimen is almost entirely a single large, lustrous and translucent, bicolored sapphire/ruby crystal, measuring 3.1 cm across and 2.4 cm in length. Massive, gemmy ruby serves as the matrix , of which a bit is attached to the backside. Minor contact is present on the back side where it was attached to more matrix, now removed. The termination, however, is startlingly complete and the crystal is otherwise complete on the front and both sides. This is one of the largest sharp, undamaged crystals I have seen and the zoning is particularly attractive due to the rich color contrasts. There is probably not a lot of gem value here (except for cabochons), but the sheer size of the crystal and the colorful beauty of the crystal as a specimen is certainly notable. 138 carats
This specimen hosts a rather large, lustrous and translucent, color-zoned crystal, measuring 3.1 cm across and 2.4 cm in length. Minor contact on the left side of the crystal does not diminish the quality of the specimen, and is not immediately distracting from the front face anyhow. The other faces of this large centrally emplaced crystal are sharp and bright. There is a fair amount of gem material within, as well, though dispersed into small zones. The intense bicoloration of this specimen leans towards the purple, to sapphire, even though the crystal habit is that of the rubies from here (sharper and more pseudo-octohedral). Thus, this is a very dramatic speicmen, both for color and crystal size; as well as interesting for the form/color arrangement itself.
This attractive mixed lot of sapphire crystals showcases the diverse habits and color styles of this corundum species. A very interesting assortment of a dozen crystals, all floaters. The largest is to 3.3 cm. Note there are several crystals of highly unusual habit here including both color and termination styles; and two very rare butterfly twinned crystals (upper row, rightmost and 3rd from right). Alone, those two twins, and the two or three larger ones, are well worth the price of the lot.

Wow, what can you say about this gorgeous Ruby? The color and gemminess are nonpareil, and the luster is very good. It has pigeon-blood red color an dgreat translucency. You can keep it as is, or just picture it on a finger or around a neck. It’s that good! Wendell regarded this as the best thumbnail he had seen of this style/locality. I think I have to agree.
