Copper from Itauz Mine, Zhezqazghan Oblysy (Dzezkazgan Oblast'; Dzhezkazgan Oblast'; Djezkazgan Oblast'; Jezkazgan Oblast'), Kazakhstan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-60706a.jpg]

A fine "feather" of copper, crystallized from top to bottom, from the Itauz mine in Russia. The mine is now NOT producing any more copper specimen of this type. It is hoped it will produce again in the future, as the strip mine widens, but there is no assurance of this. And, in any case, the last batch of specimens that came out was more "brushy" in appearance and did not include these superb herringbone-patterned feathers or fine spinel-twinned specimens. 3.1 x 2.3 x 0.3cm

Copper from Itauz Mine, Zhezqazghan Oblysy (Dzezkazgan Oblast'; Dzhezkazgan Oblast'; Djezkazgan Oblast'; Jezkazgan Oblast'), Kazakhstan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-60948a.jpg]

The recent discovery(3 years ago) of copper specimens from this deposit garnered a lot of interest from collectors. What makes this specimen so great is that it is composed of featherlike, interlocking groups of spinel twinned crystals; along with a wonderful patina and impressive herringbone pattern. This is a VERY choice miniature! 4.2 x 3 x 0.5cm
