This wonderful old copper has a lot going for it. For starters, it is old, from a long defunct mining district. German coppers of such size and heft are extremely rare and hard to come by! It has a great colliform sculptural quality about it and there are literally hundreds of 2-3 mm crystals comprising it, all of which have great patina. Lastly, the specimen stands nicely upright for display on its own. I do not have a mine name, sadly, but perhaps with some work that can be determined by help from some of the German collectors. 7.2 x 6.9 x 4 cm
This copper exhibits spinel twinning as the dominant form and "anchor" for a wildly fantasmagorical spongy crystal growth shooting off that main stalk. The juxtaposition of the two crysatl forms, so wildly differing, on the same piece, is really quite interesting. It is just plain weird, and much better in person. I especially like the deep green patina which is unusually dark in green tones. 7.6 x 4.1 x 0.9 cm
This is a most unique copper-in-calcite specimen. It is a 7 cm rhomb of copper included calcite, well terminated and colored bright pink by the rich inclusions. RHombohedral crystals are rare for the region, and large pseudocubic ones even more so. The crystal is complete on the display faces, though contacted naturally on the upper face. It is hard to tell how much of the backside is contact or cleaved, but there is some roughness in the back regardless (luckily, it doesn't show from front views). In addition, there are five calcite crystal scalenohedra to 1.5 cm, along with native copper, girdling the base . Because they are of more normal habit, and less included than the earlier generation of rhombohedral calcite, they provide a really nice accent to highlight the big crystal and emphasize its weirdness. Lastly, the large, pseudo cubic calcite also appears to be doubly terminated so it is complete on all sides but the back face. 6.8 x 4.1 x 3.1 cm
Extremely sharp , flattened crystals forming an elegant fanspray! This is CLASSIC Michigan copper, and for this habit, of flattened crystals, this is a very good specimen with excellent aesthetics 12.3 x 6.8 x 0.1 cm
This is an incredible striated scalenohedron included with a mass of bright copper that grades and thickens into a matrix of copper upon which the crystal rests. Rarely do you find such a combination where the calcite is this clear, or the copper visible in such detail inside, AND where the calcite is pristine and complete all around. This is an absolute killer, and one of the gems of the collection. It is much much better in person, even! 4.2 x 2.7 x 2.4 cm
Calcites with Copper have always been one of the great prizes from Michigan, but to find such a superb Baryte with Copper is almost unbelievable. The Baryte is gem-clear, sharp, and highly lustrous. By itself, it is an amazing specimen from a closed locality, but you include the Copper crystals on the back and you have nothing less than an exceptional Michigan thumbnail! 3.3 x 1.2 x .7 cm
VERY RICH, weighty halfbreed of silver and copper . the Silver and Copper are so well-delineated and so lustrous and colorful that this is an amazingly appealing thumbnail for a normally clunky material. Truly. Also unusually rich in silver compared to copper content 2.7 x 2.1 x 1.3 cm
A fine Tsumeb copper thumbnail, with two vertical branches showing crystallization. 3.5 x 1.9 x 1.8 cm
This is an old, nugget-style silver/copper halfbreed from Calumet. A nice, thick 2-cm chunk of silver crowns the top of the specimen, with copper forming a natural “base.” Very sculptural. Came with an old Prosper Williams label. 5.7 x 3.6 x 1.7 cm
An aesthetic, arborescent toenail cluster of spinel-twinned copper crystals with a very nice patina from Tsumeb. Native copper was never abundant at Tsumeb and this is a fine thumbnail specimen! 2.8 x 2.4 x 2.0 cm
A large, sculptural specimen of penny-bright copper from Arizona, quite thick and substantial and not flimsy at all. 10.4 x 6.5 x 4.4 cm
A 12.1-ounce nugget of natural native copper from the glacial drifts of Michigan, polished on one side to show its penny-bright luster, which contrasts nicely with the antique patina in the recessed areas. 8.5 x 5.8 x 3.1 cm
This is a SENSATIONAL Michigan copper thumbnail. The largest of this cluster of sharp crystals is shaped like a leaf, with pretty bevels around its edges. The specimen has a wonderful antique patina. This is a floater specimen, and all crystal, no clunky parts! 2.9 x 2.7 x 1.6 cm
This is BY FAR, the FINEST, LARGEST and BEST, Mission Mine, Arizona micro-dendritic copper in a transparent gypsum cleavage slab that we have offered at auction. This large, bladed CABINET specimen compares very favorably with anything that has been in the Gallery. Old and very choice material we do not see except in old recycled collections, as well. Ex Evan Jones Collection. 13.2 x 7.7 x 1.0 cm
A SUPERB thumbnail from Ajo, Arizona. A FLOATER, tetrahexahedral copper crystal with beautiful patina is preferentially overgrown with secondary spinel-twinned twinned copper crystals. 2.5 x 1.8 x 1.7 cm
