Copper from Copper Harbor Conglomerate, Houghton Co., Michigan, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-276323a.jpg]

15.2 x 14.5 x 8.4 cm. An unusual piece, as it is a double skull with one on each side, adhering together at a solid junction and showing clearly how these form in the cracks and spaces of a conglomerate lode around ball-shaped rocks. There is even a third mini-skull in the cluster. Overall this is thus very 3-dimensional and dramatic. Ex. Richard Hauck and earl Calvert Collections.

12 x 9 x 3 cm. An interesting copper specimen in the shape of a bunny. Too neat. And, it’s complete on both sides. Ex. Richard Hauck Collection.

25.9 x 15.8 x 1.2 cm. A dramatic, sculptural, large cabinet sheet of intergrown native copper plates from the White Pine Mine of Michigan. This striking piece looks like a tropical fish with an elongated, paddle tail. The bright patina and remaining bits of shale are a nice accent. Native copper was deposited in shale beds of the Nonesuch Shale, explaining the sheet-like form. The White Pine was the last major copper mine to close in the historic Copper Country.

2.9 x 2.5 x 1.6 cm. A fine thumbnail size specimen of the famous pseudomorphs of Copper after Aragonite from Corocoro. These floater specimens are well known from Bolivia for their great form and color, and this piece has the classic and unique shape that has made these pieces some of the most well known and highly sought after pseudomorphs around. This specimen is a very fine example of these unique pseudomorphs. There hasn't been any significant amount of these specimens on the market in approximately 25 years, and they are often only found in old collections.

13.3 x 7.5 x 6.0 cm. A sculptural, old-time, cabinet copper specimen from the Ajo Mine and the Brent Lockhart Collection. Weighs 542 grams or 1.2 pounds. This showy piece is composed solidly of sharply crystallized, tetrahexahedral copper crystals with a very nice, variable patina. This excellent piece is reinforced with glue in the back to help support its mass. A highly representative and large example of the species and famous mine.

7.9 x 3.1 x 2.4 cm. A superb example of Bisbee copper, which actually is not as common as you would think from one of the world’s largest copper mines…this is an arborescent vertical cluster with incredibly sharp crystals, combined into a fan-spray atop. They are lustrous, bright, and without damage. The piece is complete-all-around. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.

4.1 x 2.9 x 0.4 cm. A highly stylized, very aesthetic sculptural copper with cuprite specimen from the Ray Mine. This striking two-sided piece consists of amazing, elongated, arborescent spinel-twins with some sharp, tetrahexahedral copper microcrystals; all over-coated with sparkly cuprite microcystals. This excellent piece comes from a recently uncovered stash from the well-known copper mine, as the specimens were collected in 1959.

7.0 x 3.8 x 3.5 cm. Finely filigreed native copper, a very choice specimen from this important and historic locale. Although Bisbee is one of the world's largest copper mines, actual native copper specimens are hard to get from there, and do not occur as often as you would expect in the mines. From the well-known Tucson collection of 40-year collector, Harold Urish.

7.6 x 7.4 x 1.1 cm. Most people are familiar with the Copper pseudomorphs after Aragonite from this locality, but to find free native Copper is rather rare in my experience. This "sheet" of partially crystallized Copper is a fine specimen from this historic locality. It has a gorgeous blue-green association of Malachite with spots of reddish-black Cuprite and a few areas with bright Copper crystals exposed. These pieces started to trickle out around October of 2007, and this piece is one of the better samples of this material that I have handled.

18.5 x 11.4 x 7.5 cm. Very pretty and striking, arborescent clusters of chatoyant, velvet malachite cover all sides of this beautiful, large cabinet, old-time specimen cored with copper from the famous mines at Bisbee. Ex. Dennis Mullane Bisbee Collection. Weighs 4.0 pounds or 1.8 kilograms. This rich chatoyant malachite is highly valued by the locals.

A dramatically sculptural and rather large specimen of classic Kearsage Lode copper, with a gorgeous "antique" look to it. As a bonus, in the crook of one of the branches is a complete 1.4-cm crystal. Very fine and showy. 8.1 x 7.9 x 2.7 cm

Copper from Calumet Township, Houghton Co., Michigan, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-33945a.jpg]

A remarkable large crystal embedded in matrix of calcite, quartz, prehnite, and epidote. Not complete all around, but nevertheless extremely dramatic from the front display face as you see this gutwrenchingly huge crystal staring back at you. This is a piece that came with no label and after showing it around Tucson was thought to be from a find of 1991 (or thereabouts) which was released at the Cincinnati in that year - I still remember seeing the case full of them when I was doing shows in Ohio. However, I found recently that a previous owner bought it back in 1967 so it clearly is NOT from that famous and more recent find. However, I think the similarity is good indication that it IS from the same mining area , although it would now have to date to the late 1800s or early 1900s , i imagine (when the mines were producing). Weight=860-plus grams. 8 x 8 x 6 cm
