Copper, Aragonite from Corocoro, Pacajes Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-255170a.jpg]

4.1 x 2.8 x 2.7 cm. Here is a wonderful miniature size specimen of the famous pseudomorphs of Copper after Aragonite from Corocoro. These floater specimens are well-known from Bolivia for their great form and color, and this piece has the classic and unique pseudo-hexagonal form that has made these pieces some of the most well known and highly sought after pseudomorphs around. This specimen is a very fine example of this material, especially considering that it hosts multiple crystals. There is actually one small, white exposed crystal of un-pseudomorphed Aragonite on one end of the piece as well. There hasn't been any significant amount of these specimens on the market in approximately 25 years, and they are often only found in old collections.

Copper from White Pine Mine, White Pine, Ontonagon Co., Michigan, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-256822a.jpg]

12.5 x 9.5 x 4.5 cm. A fine, sculptural, cabinet sheet of native copper from the White Pine Mine of Michigan. This striking thick sheet looks like a torn, folded, curved and curled piece of tree bark with a nice coppery patina. Native copper was deposited in shale beds of the Nonesuch Shale, explaining the sheet-like form, but this piece must have been deformed during copper deposition. The White Pine was the last major copper mine to close in the historic Copper Country.

4.2 x 3.9 x 1.0 cm. An amazingly sculptural copper with cuprite specimen from the Ray Mine. This piece looks just like a poodle with a turned head. The ears, long neck, legs, body and tail are very evident. Very sharp spinel-twins and tetrahexahedral copper crystals with a sparkly, cuprite over-coated patina comprise this very interesting piece. This superb piece comes from a recently uncovered stash from the well-known copper mine, as the specimens were collected in 1959.

Copper, Azurite from Georgetown, Georgetown District, Grant Co., New Mexico, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-257374a.jpg]

3.9 x 2.9 x 1.6 cm. This is a fine pseudomorph of copper after azurite. The original form of azurite as a rosette is clearly evident. This piece has more form and aesthetics than most from there, as well as a superb patina. Also it is rather large for the material - most are 3 cm and smaller. Overall a historic and very interesting specimen. Ex. Richard Hauck Collection.

8.4 x 8.2 x 6.9 cm. A striking copper specimen from recent finds at the Fengjiashan Mine of China. A sculptural, arborescent copper crystal cluster is aesthetically attached to matrix. The patina on this fine, two-sided piece varies from a rich coppery tone to a mottled look. A finely crystallized copper specimen.

These floater specimens are well-known from Bolivia for their great form and color, and this piece has the classic and unique pseudo-hexagonal form that has made these pieces some of the most well known and highly sought after pseudomorphs around. This specimen is a very fine example of this material as it is complete all the way around and has sharp faces. The final touch to this specimen is the fact that is has attractive mint-green associated Malachite, which is only seen in a small percentage of these specimens. There hasn't been any significant amount of these specimens on the market in approximately 25 years, and they are often only found in old collections.

4.5 x 3.3 x 3.0 cm. Here is a fine thumbnail specimen of the famous pseudomorphs of Copper after Aragonite from Corocoro. These floater specimens are well known from Bolivia for their great form and color, and this piece has the classic and unique shape that has made these pieces some of the most well known and highly sought after pseudomorphs around. The greatest aspect of this piece is that it is a not a single pseudo-hexagonal crystal, but actually has a smaller, secondary pseudomorph growing off the side, along with a few "leaves" of Copper, which is much less common for this material. This specimen is a very fine example of these unique pseudomorphs. There hasn't been any significant amount of these specimens on the market in approximately 25 years, and they are often only found in old collections.

6.1 x 5.8 x 3.7 cm. A sculptural, latticework and box-work of sharp, wine-red cuprite crystals and rust-red cuprite crust coating tetrahexahedral copper crystals with a bit of attached matrix from Arizona. Classic Ray Mine material. This fine piece has a distinctly biomorphic-look, like a dog’s head and body. Old-time material from the Robert Sullivan Collection.

4.2 x 1.9 x 1.9 cm. A rare and seldom available specimen from the historic Andacollo Mine of the Coquimbo Region of Chile. The crystals of an aesthetic copper crystal cluster with a "feather" at the top are coated with microscopic bits of bright, rich, yellow gold. The elongate, main body is a single spinel-twin, as are most of the other larger crystals. Tiny tetrahexahedrdal crystals are dotted on the spinel-twins. Classic, old-time and seldom available material from this famous locale. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection.

5.3 x 4.0 x 0.9 cm. An amazingly sculptural copper with cuprite specimen from the Ray Mine. Bright red, hair-like crystals of cuprite variety chalcotrichite are also evident on this piece. Chalcotrichite is uncommon for this lot and is a real bonus. This specimen looks distinctively biomorphic, like a kneeling Scottish terrier with tufted ears and nose. Sharp spinel-twins and tetrahexahedral copper crystals with a sparkly, cuprite over-coated patina comprise this very interesting piece. This super piece comes from a recently uncovered stash from the well-known copper mine, as the specimens were collected in 1959.

12.4 x 7.1 x 6.0 cm. A classic, old-time cabinet specimen of nearly solid sharply crystallized copper from the Champion Mine of Michigan. Spinel-twins (some very elongated) and tetrahexahedral crystals comprise this very fine and rich specimen. The crystals have a very nice patina. Every turn of this fine old-timer presents an entirely different view of sharply crystallized copper. The Champion Mine had a long history, opening in 1899 and finally closing in 1967. Weighs 856 grams or nearly 1.9 pounds. Ex. Dennis Mullane Collection.

14.9 x 4.8 x 4.3 cm. A very fine, highly unusual, very rich cabinet combination ore specimen from the famous Mansfeld Basin of Germany. A nicely burnished, slightly upturned, thin plate of native silver covers the black, bituminous, layered slate. The side view shows nodules and stringers of bright native copper. Very uncommon, very rich silver and copper ore from this ancient district, where mining started around 1200 and finally ceased in 1969. Weighs 257 grams.

Silver, Copper from Calumet & Hecla Mine, Calumet, Calumet Township, Houghton Co., Michigan, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-262111a.jpg]

4.2 x 2.9 x 1.5 cm. A crudely formed copper crystal with very minor prehnite has become the matrix for two very sharp, feather-like, aesthetic growths of native silver to 2.5 cm in length. This silver growth is reminiscent of classic specimens from this Kearsarge Amygdaloidal Lode. This combination of copper and silver, while not uncommon, makes for a superb minature because it IS uncommon in aesthetic specimens with well crystallized silver atop. Usually, the mixes are just lumps. Ex. John Durkos Collection.

13.0 x 12.8 x 1.8 cm. A very elegant, large cluster of conjoined spinel twin crystals from this famous locality. This is not from a recent find of the late 90s with smaller crystals, but rather from an older find of the 1980s. Ex. Dr. Steve Smale Collection.
