A excellent Michigan combination piece of a vug of bright, flattened copper crystals surrounded by quartz, epidote, prehnite and calcite from the Globe Mine. A large 1.3 cm calcite crystal is on the back. The locality is now a prison facility, so there wont be any more of these and it has value for that alone, aside from the copper! 4.6 x 3.7 x 2.1 cm
Substantial spinel twins have grown tightly together as if “fitted” in this rich thumbnail specimen of wonderfully crystallized copper, from the world-class finds in Russia. 2.9 x 2.5 x 0.5 cm
A "half-breed" specimen of silver and copper from Michigan, with a stunning resemblance to a horse! So not only is this a Michigan classic, but a very unique one at that! 11.2 x 8.5 x 2 cm
A sculptural specimen of penny-bright copper from Arizona. 12.8 x 6.4 x 0.1 cm
A fine herringbone style copper "feather", crystallized from top to bottom, from the world-class Russian finds. 3.6 x 1 x 0.1 cm
From the finds of superb crystalliazed coppers in Russia, this specimen features flattened twins in a plant-like structure. Much nicer in person! Not as red as the photo makes it look – rather, with a classic copper luster. 3.3 x 2 x 0.3 cm
7.0 x 4.9 x 3.0 cm. A fine bifurcating, copper specimen from the classic Bisbee locality, crystallized from top to bottom, back and front. This fine piece consists of hackly, crudely crystallized copper crystals with a bright, golden-copper patina. Ex. W. Simpson and Mullane Collections.
A large, sculptural specimen of Arizona copper, with superb penny-bright luster; really lacy and fine structure, and not flimsy like a "sheet", but rather substantial. 12.4 x 8.0 x 0.5 cm
You can make out small, dark, euhedral crystals of cuprite on the surface of the massive copper with matrix in this Arizona specimen. 4.4 x 3.4 x 2.7 cm
17.1 x 16.3 x 6.8 cm. This is a very heavy, large, and simply dramatic specimen of crystallized copper from the important and historic mining district of the Keweenaw Peninsula in Upper Michigan (now a state park). The piece is crystallized front and back, on both sides, and even all around the bottom as well. Robust crystals of at least 3 habits can be seen here. The specimen is from the Gene Meieran Collection and to him in exchange from the Seaman Museum in Hancock, Michigan, at the heart of the old mining district there. Weighs 2 kilograms.
3.7 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm. Here is a wonderful small miniature size specimen of the famous pseudomorphs of Copper after Aragonite from Corocoro. These floater specimens are well known from Bolivia for their great form and color, and this piece has the classic form that has made these pieces some of the most well known and highly sought after pseudomorphs around. This specimen is a very fine example of this material, as it is actually a cluster of two intergrown "disco ball" habit pseudomorphs. There hasn’t been any significant amount of these specimens on the market in approximately 25 years, and they are often only found in old collections. For the size, sharpness and quality, this is a superb example of these unique specimens.
3.1 x 0.7 x 0.6 cm (largest). A classic and fine pair of feather-like or leaf-like, spinel-twinned copper crystals with a rich patina from the 1970s finds at the Ray Mine. The crystal structure is exquisite and they look great from all sides. Many of these were treated to bring out the shine. Fortunately, these were not. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection.
7.4 x 5.4 x 4.6 cm. Michigan Copper Country copper in calcite specimens are amongst the most desirable minerals species, along with superbly crystallized copper specimens, from this district. Here we have a large, very glassy, transparent to translucent, complete-all-around, double terminated calcite crystal heavily infused with native copper with a nice patina. This historic classic, probably dating prior to World War I, is in outstanding condition, with only very minor edge-wear. Specimens of this size and quality are only available from recycled collections. Ex. Mullane Collection accompanied by an old Burminco label with a May, 1952 date.
4.5 x 2.3 x 0.4 cm. An incredibly aesthetic, floater copper specimen from the Dr. Eric Asselborn Collection and the Itauz Mine of Kazakhstan. This amazing, articulated, doubly terminated specimen of feathers of spinel-twinned copper crystals with a super patina looks just like a bird with very long legs. Ex. Asselborn Collection.
Sad to say, no more of these at the Denver show, as mining them has stopped, at least for now. This copper "feather" is crystallized from top to bottom and comes from the stash we bought at Tucson. One day, these will be remembered as true classics for the decade, mark my words. 3 x 1 x 0.3 m
