Mineral Specimens with Copper

8.2 x 6 x 2.2 cm. An incredibly intricate specimen consisting entirely of minutely crystallized copper, in a brushy form. This old-timer (who knows how old?) is from perhaps the most "classic" of all American localities, Bisbee in Arizona. It came out of the collection of Arizona specialist Evan Jones.
4.4 x 0.9 x 0.8 cm. A very aesthetic, elongated, spinel-twinned copper crystal from the famous Ray Mine of Arizona. This classic piece has a beautiful patina, excellent saw tooth edges and a very fine, feather-like termination.
17.4 x 16.5 x 9.4 cm. A very large, incredibly sculptural and dramatic specimen of native copper from New Mexico! It features beautiful leafy forms that grow out in all directions, making the specimen wonderfully 3-dimensional. The branches and "leaves" are beefier and sturdier than they look, despite their elegant form. The surface has a pretty "antique" patina to it. This "sculpture" made by nature weighs in at 2.9 pounds!
2.0 x 1.7 x 1.4 cm. Here is a wonderful thumbnail size specimen of the famous pseudomorphs of Copper after Aragonite from Corocoro. These floater specimens are well known from Bolivia for their great form and color, and this piece has the classic and unique form that has made these pieces classics. I think that this specimen is a very fine example of this material. This specimen is from a find from over 25 years ago.
An exquisite combination specimen with sharp crystallized copper in elegant sprays atop brilliantly glassy, gemmy, calcite colored in parts by copper inclusions. Both a great calcite and a great copper for the locality! 3.5 x 2.2 x 1.7 cm
Talk about elegant coppers! This exquisitely crystallized specimen is as good a piece as you could ask, for the locale! 5.8 x 3.1 x 2.4 cm
This is a very intricate combinaiton piece featuring rich drapery of bushlike copper crystals, with a nice reddish patina, overtopping GEMMY, brilliantly lustrous rhombohedral clacites that are colored by red chalcotrichite inclusions; and the calcite itself grows over brilliantly lustrous small quartzes with hematite or iron red inclusions. All are classic for this locality, but I cannot recall seeing it all together in one specimen like this! 8 x 7 x 4 cm
15.5 x 8.9 x 3.5 cm. A large, strikingly sculptural, sharply crystallized specimen of natural Michigan copper. You can still see come of the quartz crystals it intergrew with, adding to the attractiveness. There are sharp, angular faces everywhere here - and the piece has a gorgeous "antique" patina to it.
4.2 x 3.9 x 0.4 cm. An elegant and sculptural specimen of completely crystallized copper from the Itauz Mine, which over the past few years produced copper specimens as good as just about any worldwide. The mine is currently not producing this type; we hope that as the circular strip mining continues, they may come back into a zone that turns out fine specimens such as this one.
9.2 x 5.2 x 2.4 cm. An OLD-TIME, showy specimen from the famous Kearsarge Mine, probably early to mid 1900s. It is made of robust silver wires and sharp bladelike crystals, growing out of and set in copper crystals mixed with a green basalt matrix. The silver wires and large silver blade give the piece a nice sculptural look. And the elongated silver crystal is SIGNIFICANT at almost 2 cm length. This is extremely rich ore from this historic mine, with extremely good crystals and good pedigree from an exchange with the Seaman Museum Collection.
6.5 x 3.2 x 2.4 cm. A sculptural, excellent and old-time Michigan copper specimen. This showy piece resembles a swan with a long neck and flattened, spinel-twinned copper "wings." Sharp crystals abound on this fine piece, which even includes a copper crystal with cube faces, a rarity. The patina and overall presentation make this a classic Copper Country specimen. I obtained this piece in a major trade with the Seaman Museum and it hails from the famous Hubbard Collection, one of the Seaman backbone collections. Certainly around 100 years old.
9.0 x 6.3 x 3.1 cm. A showy and excellent Pennsylvania copper with scattered quartz and a bit of shale matrix on the back of the "tail"! This sculptural copper has a nice patina. The copper is platy and hackly. This is a fine piece from a recent, small find.
17.4 x 13.4 x 7.4 cm. This large, sculptural and dramatic specimen of native copper was formed when the rock around which the copper had solidified was later etched away by corrosive solutions, leaving just the copper itself and a little bit of the rock remaining. As you can see, it has a pretty luster and is wonderfully 3-dimensional.
4.4 x 0.8 x 0.6 cm, 3.9 x 1.1 x 0.4 cm, 3.4 x 1.1 x 0.6 cm, 3.4 x 0.9 x 0.4 cm.
Let’s hope the Itauz Mine in Russia some day produces magnificent copper specimens again - for awhile there, it was turning out specimens of crystallized copper that ranks with the best in the world. These "feathers" were highly popular with collectors of smaller specimens - they are so beautifully crystallized, delicate and elegant. Here you have a set of FOUR of them!
30.5 x 18.4 x 3.9 cm. Just look at how sculptural and elegant this BIG specimen of native copper is! From end to end, it has formed flat, leaf-like crystals along a central spine. There are little spinel twins here and there as well. The specimen can be displayed from either side or either horizontally or vertically. This is a huge piece likely very old.
