Copper from Phoenix Mine, Phoenix, Keweenaw Co., Michigan, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-113452a.jpg]

8.4 x 5.9 x 2.6 cm. This is a fabulous old Michigan copper from the Phoenix mine - the old label says it came from the 400 ft. level - the main crystal looks almost like an arrowhead, sticking up dramatically and with chiseled faces on both sides. No telling how old this fine piece is - there are two old India Inked numbers on the bottom from collections it has been through. But regardless, it has really fine and dramatic form and a great antique patina.

9.0 x 4.6 x 4.5 cm. This amazingly sculptural Keweenaw Peninsula copper specimen has a HUGE, 7.0 cm, elongated tetrahexahedral copper crystal and overall, a very nice, rich patina. Undoubtedly old material. Ex Seaman Museum Collection. The label on the specimen bottom is DM 1864. The DM prefix on the catalog number does not stand for Dean Martalock collection, but instead was created by Jean Kemp in the 1970s, and stand for "display mineral."

5.5 x 4.7 x 2.0 cm. SHARP, tetrahexahedral and CUBIC copper crystals with nice patina form this sculptural copper specimen from the famous Copper Country of Michigan. Cubic copper crystals are RARE from the Keweenaw and these are good ones! A CLASSIC, OLD-TIME and very fine piece. Ex L.L. Hubbard Collection #273 and Seaman Museum. His collection, acquired around 1933, is considered one of the keystones to the Seaman Museum.

7.1 x 7.0 x 1.7 cm. A delicate looking lacework of cuprite-coated copper crystals give this very sculptural, flattened, arborescent copper specimen a beautiful appearance on this fine piece from a NEW FIND at the Daye Mine of China.

7.4 x 5.2 x 2.2 cm. Another specimen out of the Seaman Museum - a gorgeously crystallized copper, enclosing matrix so that the matrix forms a contrasting backdrop for the crystallized branches. These is not the more common chunky crystal type from Michigan, but the much more uncommon dendritic form, with spinel twins ranged along spines. Displayable from either side - the copper wraps 360 degrees around the matrix!

7.6 x 4.4 x 1.4 cm. An old Canadian copper specimen from the Afton Mine, an open-pit mine that these days is full of landfill - but will soon (if it is not already started) be redeveloped for gold and copper mining. This "branch" shows some rough crystallization and matrix attachments.

Copper from Calumet & Hecla Mine, Calumet, Calumet Township, Houghton Co., Michigan, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-117559a.jpg]

10.8 x 9 x 6 cm. Copper has a beauty all its own, and this large specimen has well-crystallized Copper intermixed and on calcite. The patina is also very good. Many of the crystals range from 1-2 cm in size, which is outstanding given the sharpness as well. An excellent specimen from one of the world’s great localities.

4.7 x 3.7 x 2.5 cm. An uncommon and showy combination specimen from Copper Country of copper embedded on lustrous, botryoidal, sea-green prehnite nicely set in matrix. This is classic, old material from the Osceola Mine, which was active from 1879-1920. The damage to the prehnite is confined to the back of the specimen and is out of sight. Ex. Marty Lewadny Collection.

Copper from Red Jacket shaft, Calumet & Hecla Mine, Calumet, Calumet Township, Houghton Co., Michigan, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-118176a.jpg]

12.0 x 11.0 x 8.5 cm. An IMPRESSIVE and DRAMATIC CABINET copper "skull" from the Red Jacket Shaft of the Calumet and Hecla Mine, near Calumet, Michigan. This is a very 3-dimensional cast, with the copper forming around conglomerate cobbles. The cobbles were dissolved away and further tectonic activity caused the back of the cast or "skull" to bend inward, dividing the bottom of the cast and looking like a sail. Highly unusual.

Copper, Aragonite from Corocoro, Pacajes Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-118289a.jpg]

2.5 x 1.8 x 1.4 cm. Here is a wonderful thumbnail size specimen of the famous pseudomorphs of Copper after Aragonite from Corocoro. These floater specimens are well known from Bolivia for their great form and color, and this piece has the classic and unique form that has made these pieces some of the most well known and highly sought after pseudomorphs around. This specimen is a very fine example of this material. There hasn’t been any significant amount of these specimens on the market in approximately 25 years, and they are often only found in old collections.

12.5 x 6.5 x 4.0 cm. An OLD-TIME, CLASSIC Copper Queen Mine CABINET specimen of nested, dentritic, spinel-twinned copper wires on a thin, sturdy, botryoidal, beige calcite crust. The central, mounded copper "nest" is an impressive feature and some of the copper wires have an overgrowth of secondary calcite. BRIGHT orange fluorescence on the calcite!! Certainly around 100 years old. Ex. George Elling Collection.

Cuprite (Var: Chalcotrichite), Calcite, Copper from Emke Mine, Ogonja (Onganja), Seeis, Windhoek District, Khomas Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-118500a.jpg]

3.2 x 2.8 x 2.1 cm. An UNUSUAL, UNIQUE and showy specimen from the famed Emke Mine at Onganja of chalcotrichite included in calcite with TWO habits of copper. Leaf copper is VERY UNCOMMON from the Emke Mine and having the antenna-like copper wires on a calcite crystal is really UNUSUAL. The copper has a very nice patina and the overall piece has a very sculptural form.
