An exceptional, complete, 3-dimensional cobaltite crystal (actually a cluster of two, one much smaller) with good old pedigree and still perched on an old museum-mount. Some very minor edge wear but still, overall, highly aesthetic and unusually fine and sharp for the size. This is an old classic, seldom seen in anything of this magntitude today.

This sharp thumbnail is remarkable for its complex form (the more rare habit of the species from this location), brilliant lustre and golfball-like carved symmetry. It is a thumbnail of extremely high quality, best seen in person. These are 50-100 years old or more, generally, and most acucmulate some damage over time. This piece has remarkably little wear - a few trivial bits of wear is all. It is complete 360 degrees, and a floater, with perfect symmetry. Comes with a label from 1948, when it was sold by dealer Hugh Ford, and has long since been in the Conklin collection.

For the species, this is huge! Modified pyritohedral crystal, of sharp form, with very good metallic luster. The surface is somewhat etched, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that you were able to find such a fine crystal at all.

Excellent and rare specimen of Cobaltite crystals, in matrix, from the Sudbury Distric in Ontario. Old classics, these cubic cobaltites are quite different from their more famous and wellknown brethren from Sweden. These silver-gold crystals are sharp, lustrous, and have a fascinating complex habit along the crystal faces. The largest of these Cobaltite cubes ranges up to about .7 cm, and there are over a half-dozen, total, in matrix, of various sizes. Aesthetic, and uncommon for the quality.

A sharply crystallized example of this classic rare species, in matrix, from THE classic occurrence! The crystal is a rather large 1.4 cm across, and is especially significant in matrix. It is well exposed and all faces are SUPER sharp. This piece was labelled as Hakansboda but I am told tha tthe more complex habit is actually clearly indicative of this nearby locality. 4.2 x 3 x 1.1 cm

5.8 x 5.2 x 3.3 cm. An extremely sharp and lustrous, 9 mm, modified cobaltite cube jauntily set on sulfide matrix from a CLASSIC Sweden locality - Hakansboda. This is an OLD mine, opened in the 17th century and worked until 1873, with only minor mining during World War I. Ex. Ed Ruggiero Collection, who purchased this fine piece from Chris Wright in 1975.

Cobaltite - Tunaberg, Nyköping, Södermanland, Sweden

6.2 x 3.7 x 3.5 cm. This specimen has a LOT going for it. Firstly, it is a huge, sharp crystal to still remain on matrix - and it is solidly anchored to matrix. It is 2 cm tall, a little narrower and complete ALL AROUND 360 degrees. It has great lustre and sharp pyritohedral form. Overall, it’s a very pretty matrix cobaltite, given the stark contrast of the silver crystal with the bright golden matrix of chalcopyrite and ore. If not the type locality, this is certainly the world's BEST locality for the species and the most desirable. Ex. Colonel Washington Roebling, Smithsonian, and Steve Smale collections.

1.5 x 1.1 x 1.1 cm. A shockingly large crystal for this locality, from which cobaltite in crystalline form is already rare. Complete on all faces, except a small contact near the base and another in back. This was from a modern-day donation. Ex. Philadelphia Academy of Sciences Collection.
