A HUGE single crystal of clinozoisite with incredible glassy lustre and amazing gemminess considering its size (in person, this is really obvious, especially when backlit!). The termination is fantastic, and intricately formed i nsmall steppes. The lustre is killer on both sides. This is a MAJOR piece from a pocket of such monsters that came out perhaps 10 years back. I have seen only 3-4 of them trickle back to sale the last few years. This one is ALMOST a perfect piece...it has a slight indentation due to NOT damage but rather contact with another crystal that it grew against, on the lower-left side. If not for that small visual bend, it would be a 10k piece. As it is, still damned good and a relative bargain for the magnitude of teh specimen as a gem crystal.

A VERY FAT, entirely gemmy, glassy-lustrous crystal of some of the best clinozoisite yet to be found here! These first appeared before Munich of 2006 and have kept coming since, though in seemingly declining quality. This first lot had the best glassy lustre, so reflective i can see my face in this crystal like a mirror, in person. What is more, this piece has sharp and lustrous TERMINATIONS whereas many of the larger crystals decay atop into an etched, almost fibrous termination that does not have the quality of the rest of the piece. For this reason, and for the sheer fatness and gemminess of the crystal, this is the best I have sen for my tastes in this size range. The termination also shows twinning, though its well hidden by the fatness of the crystal and you have to look down from the top to see it. Just an oustanding specimen among hundreds, that leapt out to me.

Clinozoisite - PakistanClinozoisite - Pakistan

Clinozoisite forms an isomorphic series with Epidote and Zoisite, and is a relatively rare gem in the world. This stone has a distinct color for Clinozoisite with a blending of yellow and a slight green color, but truly does not show any pleochroism like Epidote, which is one of the better ways to tell that it is truly Clinozoisite. The stones/crystals from Pakistan are actually well documented material, and probably some of the best gem grade Clinozoisite to hit the market in recent years. The stone is only very slightly included with a Square Emerald cut.

Epidote, Clinozoisite - Wadh, Balochistan (Baluchistan), Pakistan

3.1 x 2.6 x 2.1 cm. From the new find in the Fall of 2004. This is a great specimen simultaneously representing two members of the Epidote group. Epidote forms and isomorphic series with Clinozoisite where Epidote is the iron-rich end member and Clinozoisite is the iron-deficient end member. The beauty of this piece is that no analysis is necessary as it is very clear where the Epidote stops and the Clinozoisite begins. This specimen features several, sharp, lustrous, prismatic, translucent, deep pistachio green crystals of Epidote that sharply grade into gemmier, peach/tan color terminations of Clinozoisite. This is a great example of how two individual mineral species can sometimes occur in the same crystal as is often the case in many Tourmaline species. Aside from being a scientific marvel, this is actually a very beautiful specimen.

Clinozoisite - Mun. de Ensenada, Baja California Norte, Mexico

4.3 x 2.0 x 1.4 cm. Most of the clinozoisites you see around these days are from recent finds in Pakistan. This one, as you can tell by its form, is NOT one of these, but an old-timer from MEXICO, out of the noted California collection of Charles Hansen. It has natural etching around its sides, and a sharp, lustrous, chisel termination.
