16.4 x 8.1 x 4.2 cm. Yes, this is a natural specimen of chrysocolla. This was a find not too long back at the copper-rich L’Etoile Mine in Congo, of chrysocolla that is so strange and pretty you can hardly believe it is real. The botryoidal surface looks like molten plastic, and is an intense, deep robin’s-egg blue. For color and uniqueness, this represents one of the most unusual new finds of the past couple of years.

An attractive and unusually rich specimen for the locality, of bright green volborthite crystals to several mm perched on chrysocolla. for the species, these are pretty good-sized crystals and isolated at that! 8 x 5 x 2 cm

2.9 x 2.2 x 1.8 cm. Lustrous deep green round aggregates of pseudomalachite crystals from one of the main localities for this species which is, interestingly, not really chemically related to malachite: it is a phosphate whereas malachite is a carbonate but often they are confused because they look similar. Ex. Carlton Davis Collection.

5.0 x 4.3 x 2.7 cm. You can see a shallow part of a pocket here of a well-loved combination from this mine: a druse of sparkly quartz crystals on a layer of sky-blue chrysocolla. The matrix consists about 50% of bands of chrysocolla and malachite. Beautiful contrasts. Ex. Richard Hauck Collection.

Quartz, Chrysocolla from Ray Mine, Scott Mountain area, Mineral Creek District (Ray District), Dripping Spring Mts, Pinal Co., Arizona, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-206925a.jpg]

4.0 x 3.4 x 2.9 cm. Truly complete stalactite clusters from the classic Ray Mine are uncommon. This piece is a particularly aesthetic miniature, complete all around, with surreal "reaching" stalks that are translucent and slightly curving as they reach out from the matrix base. This would be an older specimen, from the 1970s or early 1980s. Most specimens from the modern finds here just look different, and also tend to consist of smaller stalactites on larger matrix. It is interesting how the quartz coating on the chrysocolla "dimples out" at the tips, creating a clear translucent cone atop each stalactite.

Wet-looking, highly lustrous, deep green crystals of atacamite are basically draping a plate of chrysocolla-covered matrix here. It is so bright and shiny, it looks metallic! This is old material with discrete crystals rather than completely flat aggregates, and is rare today in such quality 4 x 3 x 2 cm

11.4 x 8.3 x 4.4 cm. No, this is not from Congo, but from China. It is a shallow pocket of beautiful silky botryoidal malachite, which at one end grades to a delicate light blue due to a thin layer of chrysocolla covering the malachite hillocks.

6.5 x 3.9 x 1.4 cm. Another old Bisbee specimen, this a polished vein of deep blue azurite, with spots of green malachite and sky-blue chrysocolla accenting the navy blue of the azurite. Classic, highly-desired lapidary material dating back to the early 1900s, here.

Very attractive drusy Chrysocolla and Quartz in a Quartz vug. The luster is excellent, and there are even some clear lustrous Dioptase crystals to add variety and interest to the piece! Just an unusual and pretty locality piece! 4.3 x 3.1 x 3.0 cm

Carnotite, Chrysocolla from Mashamba West Mine, Kolwezi, Western area, Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre) [db_pics/mdpics/MD-214961b.jpg]

4.0 x 1.6 x 3.0 cm. An unusually rich specimen of Carnotite crystals up to 1 mm on a bed of blue Chrysocolla. Carnotite is a rare mineral at Mashamba and the specimens where recovered in the mid 1980’s. As the Mashamba mine is flooded and most probably exhausted, no specimens will perhaps ever reach the market again. Crystallized carnotite is rare from any locality, and the aesthetics of this piece are particularly nice.
