0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm. A rare, well-crystallized Texas mineral. Chambersite is a very rare borate found in a few salt domes, worldwide. This sharp, gemmy, purple crystal has classic pyramidal form, with good lustre, and comes from the Type Locality.
2.3 mm across (largest crystal). The Venice Salt Dome is 31 miles southeast of Pointe a la Hache in Louisiana, an area that was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. This locality is best known for its Chambersite specimens, although the crystals are very small. Chambersite is a member of the Boracite Group and is the manganese analogue of Boracite and Ericaite. The species is orthorhombic, and the crystals typically show a pseudo-tetrahedral habit. This fifteen piece set features crystals measuring up to 2.3 mm across and range in color from purple to pink with good translucency. Ex. Brian Kosnar Collection.
Classic pyramidal form for the species, with good luster and glassy modified corners. However, the SIZE of the crystal is the biggest i have seen for sale. Fairly gemmy, too, when backlit! .8 x .8 x .8 cm
ex. Marilyn Dodge
Classic pyramidal form for the species, with good luster and glassy modified corners. However, the SIZE of the crystal is ridiculously large and is the biggest i have seen for sale. It is a superb, museum-quality specimen of a rare and unusual mineral so rare that most people have never seen one. These are found as floaters in weird formations down here in Texas in Louisiana (just two localities, so far as i know). As a bonus, this large crystal is fairly gemmy, too, when backlit!
