This fine combination piece from the Boldut Mine of Romania features shiny, gray metallic blades and needles of chalcostibite clusters scattered on lustrous tetrahedrite crystals and associated with zinkenite, quartz and calcite. Chalcostibite was never common at Cavnic and this major discovery was made in 1990.

This excellent and very showy, 3-dimensional cabinet combination piece from Cavnic, Romania features shiny, gray metallic blades and needles of chalcostibite clusters richly scattered on lustrous sphalerite crystals and associated with a rich, preferential coating of sparkly, light gray dolomite rhombs and a bit of galena. Chalcostibite was never common at Cavnic and this major discovery was made in 1990.

7.8 x 5.1 x 4.4 cm. Chalcostibite is a rare copper, antimony sulfosalt. This fine specimen from a classic French locale features a superb, cave-like vug with highly lustrous, gray metallic blades in a contrasting, iron-stained quartz matrix. The large columnar blade in the vug is 1.5 cm. A massive vein of chalcostibite caps this very showy piece and chalcostibite is shot through both sides. This is very rich ore. Seldom available in this quality from this locale, and it comes from a classic find of the 1980s.
