5.2 x 5.0 x 4.7 cm. A brilliantly lustrous ball of stepped stannite crystals, flanked by splaying GEM quartzes at its upper edge, makes this a really outstanding stannite specimen. Usually they are kind alumpy and although great for the species, not much to look at overall. THIS ONE is very aesthetic, though; as well as significant for the rare mineral displayed. The flanking quartzes and golden chalcopyrite to either side simply makes this piece more unique and special than the crowd. Ex. Dr. Steve Smale Collection.
8.1 x 6.4 x 4.4 cm. From Charcas, a specimen of large, lustrous crystals of datolite, with crystals of white danburite and little golden chalcopyrites. The largest of the crystals measures over 4 cm in two directions! They have a light greenish-gray color; the faces SHINE. Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection.
17.4 x 15.2 x 2.2 cm. During his years living in Poland, collector Dave Stoudt was able to purchase a variety of specimens that have been little seen on the American market and amassed a remarkable collection of Polish specimens here in Texas. This is a galena specimen that simply does not look like one from anywhere else! It is a very large plate of heavy, golden/sparkly marcasite with chalcopyrite, on which have formed maybe 3 dozen galena crystals of around 1.5 cm. Tiny chalcopyrites add a golden sparkle to the galena crystals.
7.3 x 5.4 x 2.9 cm. Check out this remarkable example of skeletal galena - a 1.7-cm crystal whose bizarre form you can see deeply into; on its backside is a gleaming chalcopyrite crystal, and on top of that, a cute little skeletal galena! The galenas and chalcos here are on a bed of milky quartz crystals.
4.3 x 3.2 x 1.8 cm. A beautifully balanced combo specimen from Peru, combining sharp, brassy chalcopyrite with stacked cubes of silvery galena and dark, lustrous sphalerite. You can see a galena cube buried right in the middle of the chalcopyrite! Stark contrast of form and color makes this a choice miniature standing out amidst the crowd from these mines.
7.9 x 5.9 x 4.9 cm. A fascinating and really very aesthetic combo of FOUR Dal’negorsk minerals. On what appears to be a single GIGANTIC compound crystal of sphalerite is a compound crystal of fluorite measuring 3.5 cm across. Beneath this you can see both etched and euhedral faces of galena. And here and there, the gold and purple color is from iridescent chalcopyrite.
12.4 x 10.8 x 8.4 cm. A huge 14.5-cm crystal of calcite perched on a bed of smaller calcites, some of which are coated with iridescent chalcopyrite throwing off a sparkly rainbow of colors. The big crystal is perched at an aesthetic angle, and is complete and perfectly terminated on the "important" end (the lower termination was a contact so is not complete). Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection, acquired by him in 1984.
7.3 x 5.3 x 5.3 cm. This specimen features a 5.5-cm calcite crystal canted at an angle, with little balls of hematite and crystals of chalcopyrite both on its surface and included just inside the surface of the crystal. The two minerals are sprinkled on the milky calcite matrix as well.
4.8 x 4.4 x 3.4 cm. A stunning old Tri-State galena specimen - a very ornate compound crystal with cool bevels and intricate modifications on the corners (those indented areas are not damage but micro-faces). There is a minor attachment of dolomite with little brassy chalcopyrites.
8.1 x 4.5 x 4.0 cm. A rich cluster of transparent light green fluorite, with ornate forms (cubes modified by the octahedron) piled up on matrix, with associated galena and a few brassy little chalcopyrites.
4.8 x 2.8 x 2.7 cm. Rare and fairly large sperrylite crystals for the locality are scattered on chalcopyrite matrix on this super specimen from the Type Locality, the Vermillion Mine of Ontario. The metallic-bright crystals reach 3 mm. Ex. Plavac Collection.
6 x 3.5 x 2.4 cm. A fine specimen comprised of a Bornite-coated Chalcopyrite crystal nestled in a bed of clear Quartz crystals and superb lustrous Pyrite crystals. The Bornite-coated crystal is up to 1.5 cm across. Ex. Charlie Key.
2.2 x 2.1 x 1.7 cm. A superb and sharp hoppered Proustite crystal liberally coated on the outside with a very fine sparkly druse of metallic Chalcopyrite crystals. The Proustite is extremely gemmy, has a great luster, and its hoppered habit is fantastic. Ex. Charlie Key.
8 x 6.4 x 4.2 cm. A sharp and distinctive twinned Chalcopyrite nestled among a forest of varying size Quartz crystals. The Chalocpyrite has a fabulous iridescent luster, and is over 3 cm long. Below the Quartz is more Chalcopyrite, Sphalerite, and Pyrite. Ex. Charlie Key.
10.9 x 7.3 x 4.2 cm. A matrix of beautiful, massive pink rhodochrosite is the pincushion for a host of gemmy, colorless quartz crystals, to .8 cm in length. On top of the quartz crystals is a coating of off white kutnohorite along with a few crystals of splendent, brassy chalcopyrite, to .75 cm across. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.
