Galena, Chalcopyrite, Quartz from Yuzhna Petrovitza deposit, Borieva Mine, Madan ore field, Rhodope Mts, Smolyan Oblast, Bulgaria [db_pics/mdpics/MD-113447a.jpg]

4.8 x 4.3 x 3.7 cm. Just a GREAT-looking galena from the prolific Madan district - these crystals are so sharp and well-formed, and have the best shiny-metallic luster. They are accented with some creamy calcite, and sit on a large chalcopyrite crystal, which creates a nice contrasting natural base for the galenas.

Chalcopyrite, Dolomite, Sphalerite from Joplin Field, Tri-State District, Jasper Co., Missouri, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-113677a.jpg]

24.2 x 16.9 x 6.8 cm. A very large and impressive example of a tri-state "classic" - sharp crystals of sphalerite to 1.5 cm (most are smaller) and tiny iridescent gold and purple crystals of chalcopyrite, isolated so that there is a nice contrast with the stark with dolomite matrix. This piece came out of the collection of Brent Lockhart, and the accompanying collection card shows him to have purchased it in 1969.

A sharply crystallized example of this classic rare species, in matrix, from THE classic occurrence! The crystal is a rather large 1.5 cm across, quite significant in matrix. 3.6 x 3.6 X 2.6 cm

11.1 x 10.2 x 5.0 cm. Brassy, bright, metallic chalcopyrites on contrasting quartz matrix from this famous old find of the 1980s…just very different from the style found here today. This piece is extremely showy and large with over a dozen good crystals to 2 cm.

2.3 x 1.4 x 1.3 cm. Here is a fabulous thumber for either a thumbnail collector or a Colorado collector: a very sharp TWIN of chalcopyrite with a coating of chalcocite which gives it its blue and gold iridescence. This is from the classic Ouray mining district, and is an old-timer and very hard to find now!

5.8 x 3.6 x 3.3 cm. An OLD-TIME, showy combination piece from the famous Bourg d’Oisans area of France of brassy, lustrous chalcopyrite nicely complimented with malachite and accented by several, sharp, lustrous and striated, bronzy pyrite cubes - all on milky quartz. A classic, old-timer from a renowned locality. The paper label says that the piece was acquired in 1945, but was COLLECTED in 1906! 101 years old! Ex. George Elling Collection.

15.6 x 8.9 x 6.1 cm. A beautiful and sizeable Sweetwater piece, featuring two calcites of the characteristic translucent-to-transparent golden color, the larger measuring 6 cm. They sit on a matrix decorated with brassy chalcopyrites, nicely contrasting with the underlying calcite crystals.

Fluorite, Sphalerite, Galena, Chalcopyrite from Naica, Mun. de Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-119943a.jpg]

6.8 x 5.6 x 4.4 cm. From the extremely exciting NEW FIND at this CLASSIC locality - a superb combo specimen. On a bed of lustrous crystals of galena, sphalerite and a few chalcopyrites is a complex compound crystal of fluorite with a beautiful min-green hue. Modified, beveled cubes seem to be growing out of a central, more nebulous fluorite "base". The cubes have clear "windows" into the transparent interior of the fluorite.

Quartz, Chalcopyrite from Boldut Mine, Cavnic (Kapnic; Kapnik), Maramures Co., Romania [db_pics/mdpics/MD-120500a.jpg]

6.0 x 4.4 x 3.9 cm. This mine has turned out such a huge variety of fabulously aesthetic examples of otherwise common minerals (primarily quartz and calcite). This is an acutely tapering quartz crystal, with a smaller crystal next to it, on a PERFECTLY-trimmed matrix that accents the quartz crystals with shimmering, golden-coppery chalcopyrite crystals.

6.9 x 5.2 x 2.5 cm. This is an OLD Missouri specimen from Pea Ridge - a group of brassy and bright crystals of chalcopyrite on a bed of calcite crystals that have been coated with a dark mineral, so that they provide a pretty contrast for the chalcopyrites. The chalcos have the jagged form typical for this locality.

6.4 x 3.4 x 3.3 cm. Light golden, shimmering rhomb of calcite perched on botryoidal light green prehnite. The areas of dark color are contributed by chalcopyrite. The calcite measures 2.6 cm across.

2.5 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm. A UNIQUE and SHOWY thumbnail of a blocky, sharp, black sphalerite crystal on nicely set on a bed of metallic-bright chalcopyrite crystals from a very small recent Bolivian find at a NEW locality, the Nanitay Mine. The pristine, bright sphalerite crystal has a magical chatoyant shimmer that the photos catch only a part of. Fascinating crystals and highly regarded.

Fluorite, Sphalerite, Chalcopyrite from Gibraltar Mine (incl.

6.0 x 5.4 x 4.0 cm. A bright, beautiful piece with two prominent, cuboctahedral fluorite crystals resting on a bed of lustrous, jet-black sphalerite and nicely accented with brassy chalcopyrite crystals. The crystals are just stunning in their clarity, color, and gemminess. The cubocts are bi-colored, a rich pastel-green and a washed-out gray. Most of the lustrous faces on this beauty are lightly frosted, which makes the crystals translucent. BUT, a couple of side faces are gem-clear, which give a television-like view in to the crystal interior. A really neat effect. Very fine Naica material from the recent find. These are contemporary classics.
