Do not let the good supply of arsenopyrites from the Yaogangxian make you jaded: you just do NOT see elegant, refined specimens like this that deserve a place in a fine collection. This specimen features two stacked crystals that are incredibly sculptural! And, a coating of golden chalcopyrite makes them that much more special. Superb mini for a discriminating collector. 3.5 x 2 x 1.5 cm
Linnaeite is a rare cobalt sulfide (CoCo2S4), first found in Sweden and named after the famous botanist Carolus Linnaeus. This antique German specimen evidently passed though a couple of old German collections before ending up in the collection of Paul Jung, which is now being dispersed. It features several crystals of this very rare species to 6mm in size, set in massive linnaeite and chalcopyrite. 5 x 4 x 2 cm
I have been lucky enough to have handled several AMAZING pyrites from the Jung collection, and this is another really exceptional one. These wonderful crystals look for all the world like ANTIQUE BRONZE! They really do have an amazingly special luster and surface, as though they were cast by a sculptor! What’s more, the crystals are ranged along the top of a ridge of frosty, slender accenting quartz crystals. This specimen has such a classic beauty – exceptional! 12 x 6 x 5.5 cm
Another fine piece out of the Hauck Collection -sharp, brassy chalcopyrites nicely isolated on light cream-salmon-colored dolomites. Classic material from this old mining district! 9.7 x 5.7 x 4.4cm
Sharp, beefy gray gunmetal crystals of chalcopyrite, to 2 cm, embedded in a matrix of sphalerite. 5.8 x 4.8 x 3.5cm
Brassy, striated crystals of chalcopyrite accented by scalenohedrons of milky calcite. Mined in Zacatecas in the 70''s. ex Ruggiero collection 7.7 x 6.9 x 3.9cm
This is a superb old Sweetwater galena out of the Leithauser Collection, with sharp, lustrous spinel-twinned crystals to 2 cm. The galenas are selectively coated on one side of the specimen with sparkly microcrystals of quartz and chalcopyrite; choose your favorite display face! 7.6 x 5.9 x 5.2cm
Steely blue-gray chalcopyrite crystals on a bed of sphalerite, with a rounded bloom of sphalerite intergrown with the largest chalco. 5.6 x 4.5 x 2.7cm
What a STUNNING mineral specimen, and quite rare - in fact, I have not seen this material before! The specimen features sharp, translucent poker-chip crystals of calcite, in pristine condition, standing up on a matrix of irridescent chalcopyrite sparkling with beautiful golds and reds! 8.1 x 7.3 x 4.9cm
Brassy, lustrous, striated crystals of pyrite to over 4 cm, intergrown with pretty quartz blooms and sparing chalcopyrite - a large and pretty Peruvian piece. 14.7 x 13.1 x 5.7cm
A complete dome or “porcupine”of quartz and chalcopyrite, MUCH FLASHIER in person (the quartzes are much gemmier than they appear and the chalcos much brighter and brassier!). The chalcos are perfectly scattered and balanced amongst the glassy quartz crystals. 8 x 6.5 x 4.5 cm
This is worth every bit of the asking price just as a world-class, huge and gorgeous calcite crystal. But when you add the flashing purple and blue chalcopyrites at the top, and PHANTOMS inside, it just amazing! The crystal is complete and perfect all the way around, and from any direction, it shows a dozens flashing sub-terminations. The luster is intense! Each of the “sub” crystals on this compound crystal contains its own sharp phantom. At the top, where the crystal grew against the top of the pocket, it took away a bit of the matrix with it, and these amazingly colorful chalcopyrite crystals (there is one small contact cleavage in this area which doesn’t matter at all). 20 x 9 x 10 cm
A cute mini of a classic old Colorado combo: brassy crystals of chalcopyrite with deep green crystals of sphalerite, in a nice balance. 3.1 x 2.8 x 1.5 cm
A VERY SHOWY specimen of mirror-bright, battleship-gray, stepped to "melted" galena with nicely contrasting massive chalcopyrite from Madan, Bulgaria. This is a excellent piece, even with a couple of contacts. 6.5 x 6.5 x 5.2 cm
A STRIKING and DRAMATIC, two-sided CABINET specimen of highly lustrous, colorless to milky-white, stepped, blocky calcite rhombs preferentially dusted with chalcopyrite crystals. One side is nicely accented by a 3.5 cm, salmon-pink barite blade. This is CLASSIC, OLD-TIME material from the famous St. Joe #3 Mine at Balmat, New York. Very minimal bruising on such a large piece. Ex Gene Bigwarfe and Ken Hollman Collections. 14.2 x 9.5 x 8.3 cm
