Very sharp thumbnail specimen of chalcocite consisting of a group of several crystals to 2.1cm. The crystals have a dark , impressively uniform patina and a very classic form. These Conneticut chalcocites are very old (mid to late 1800s) and groups this sharp have always been highly desired. 2.4 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm
A CLASSIC, OLD-TIME Cornwall specimen of lustrous, dark gray chalcocite crystals to 1.3 cm on massive chalcocite matrix. This highly representative piece hails from the Redruth District of Cornwall. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 5.1 x 3.8 x 2.7 cm
A STUNNING, hoppered crystal of chalcocite, very rare in this quality from Russia or ANYWHERE for that matter, with purple iridescence. Just an incredibly well-articulated crystal of a mineral that is really rare in such fine definition. In person, its multihued coating of bornite really sparkles with more color than you see here. 2.7 x 2 x 0.6 cm
A simply stunning specimen of rare quality for ANY locality, let alone Tsumeb where such fine chalcocite is extremely rare. This is from a famous pocket found in the mid 1980s, from which similar specimens resided in the noted Ed David and Sussman collections. Th epiece is complete all around and remarkably free of damage! It is simply exquisite and is really a key specimen for any collector of not just Tsumeb, but fine miniatures in general. 3.4 x 2.2 x 1.8 cm
Extremely sharp chalcocites to 1 cm perched o ncntrasting calcite matrix make this a very special, unique miniature for the famous locality, mined actively during the Civil War era. Such specimens are few and far between now, and this is a very choice piece, aesthetically. 3.9 x 3.5 x 3.0 cm
This old copper deposit produced its best chalcocite specimens around the middle of the 1800's. This specimen features several large, striated, matte black, crystals to 2.2 cm in length. For the size, and the price range in particular, this is both Superb and rare! It is complete all around and 3-dimensional: with just very minor damage in the form of a few broken secondary crystals hard to notice. As such, it is a quite sharp miniature for both crystal size and overall displayabillity - these are AT LEAST 100 years old, and few of such quality can be had! 4.6 x 3.1 x 1.8 cm

This is a super miniature: an intergrown cluster of sharp, thick, textbook chalcocite from the premier historic locality for the species. The largest crystal measures 1.5 cm across. From a mineral enthusiast’s viewpoint, this is one of the most collectible black minerals . This particular specimen is a fine miniature that displays well, has significant crystals, and does not "break the bank".

Superb patina and crystallography make this a very iconic specimen for the locale, circa mid 1800s. . Complete all around. Very 3-Dimensional. Just a stunning piece that looks carved, and which many consider one of the great thumbs from this locale. Ex Scott Williams and the Schortmanns collections (both dealers with private collections from the early to mid 1900s). From the Roland and Kathy Sherman thumbnail collection: they are competitive thumbnail exhibitors from Southern California, specializing in copper species. Joe Budd Photos

Traded from Willard "Perky" Perkins collection in 1991, and dating back probably to the 1950s or 1960s, this is a superb chalcocite from the locale - where such robust crystals are very uncommon. Pristine save only one very teeny-tiny ding atop, and complete all around. This is a major thumb for the locale. It is one of my favorites in the collection. This incredible specimen is a world class chalcocite for its size, reminiscent of Cornish pieces in its thickness and pedestal-like structure. It is complete ALL around, 360 degrees, and has gorgeous 3-dimensional form to it. The lustre, in person, is somewhat better than it appears here. Comes with original Yedlin label on which he (i assume) drew a picture , a rough sketch, of the piece!

VERY 3-DIMENSIONAL, robust grouping, better in person! now closed and recovered, these will be US classics down the road!
