Cerussite, Dioptase from Mammoth-Saint Anthony Mine (Mammoth-St Anthony Mine; Mammoth Mine; St. Anthony Mine), St. Anthony deposit, Tiger, Mammoth District, Pinal Co., Arizona, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-114259a.jpg]

4.2 x 3.9 x 3.7 cm. A STRIKING Tiger, Arizona CLASSIC of fibrous dioptase preferentially coating an excellent, finely reticulated cerussite crystal. This is very fine, old-time combination material and is always in demand. This probably dates to prior to the 1950s. Such richly colored dioptase-coated cerussites are incredibly uncommon and treasured. Ex. Richard Jones Collection.

4.0 x 2.7 x 2.7 cm. Glassy, tan, cyclically-twinned cerussite crystals jauntily perched on crystallized galena matrix from the famous, old-time locality of the Mezica Mine in Slovenia. Seldom available in this quality from this mine.

Cerussite, Mottramite from Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-118240a.jpg]

3.4 x 3.2 x 2.7 cm. This is just a TERRIFIC Tsumeb cerussite mini! It is a complete "threeling" twin, nearly a floater, with just a small concave shard of matrix on the bottom. The faces are beautifully sharp and defined, and show wonderful luster. What makes it particularly pretty is the deposition of some mossy mottramite, which adds the color accent.

Cerussite from Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-118241a.jpg]

8.9 x 6.2 x 4.8 cm. This is a very large and fine example of the "reticulated" form, more like a snowflake in structure. The crystal is complete, with just a few areas of contact on the two ends. You can see from the photos the incredibly complex architectural structure of this crystal. What is less apparent is the wonderful luster, which truly flashes off the faces as you rotate it. This is a big, major specimen, heavy in the hand, of a classic from perhaps the world’s greatest mineral locality.

Cerussite from Příbram, Central Bohemia Region, Bohemia (Böhmen; Boehmen), Czech Republic [db_pics/mdpics/MD-118297a.jpg]

4.5 x 3.3 x 3.0 cm. The mines around Pribram have produced amazing crystallized specimens for hundreds of years. Cerussite is one of lesser seen minerals from this mining district, but they can be some of the most attractive Cerussites from any old European locality. This piece came to me from an old collection, and is in amazingly good condition. It features several sharp gemmy crystals of a light straw color forming an attractive crystal group. The orangish crystals on this specimen are small Siderite rhombs. The main Cerussite crystal is complete all the way around and is in very good condition with only minimal contacts. A great old time Cerussite from this most classic of localities.

3.3 x 2.9 x 2.7 cm. A superb example of a classic form of cerussite from a find at Tsumeb in the early 1960’s, showing complex reticulation and an extended or “thick” snowflake form. It is complete all the way around, and terminated top and bottom. There is a sparing amount of matrix on one side.

6.6 x 5.2 x 3.2 cm. A STRIKING and uncommon Tsumeb specimen of a vertical vug richly and attractively lined with blue-green rosasite on cerussite. The large cerussite near the top is 6 mm and the scattering of azurite crystals to the right of the vug is a nice accent.

4.1 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm. A superb floater V-twin of cerussite, translucent and a light tan color, and with fine luster. It is hard to find un-contacted, V-twins such as this from anywhere in the world.

9.8 x 6.2 x 3.3 cm. A sculptural and aesthetic, curved tiara-like specimen of glassy, tan smithsonite rhombs solidly covered the matrix crust with a few cerussite crystals from Tsumeb. 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.1 cm. A really nifty looking thumbnail of glassy, colorless, reticulated cerussite blades that look like a stealth fighter, from the less well-known Monarch Mine, Couer d’Alene District, Idaho, near the famous Bunker Hill Mine. Ex. Carl Davis Collection.

2.3 x 2.0 x 1.3 cm. A very historic Cerussite specimen showing a rich peach-golden hue and nice translucency around the edges. This thumbnail is complete all the way around and shows excellent crystal form. Virtually impossible to replace in today’s market, especially considering that one can only find these pieces in old. Ex. Kosnar Collection.

12.0 x 8.3 x 5.0 cm. A richly covered and showy Tsumeb CABINET combination specimen. The 1.2 cm, upright, gemmy, smoky cerussite set in the lower vug really makes this piece. The vugs are lined with lustrous, pearlescent, off-white smithsonite rhombs to 1.2 and light sea-green, botryoidal willemite. Ex. George Elling Collection.
