15.1 x 10.6 x 9.8 cm. Without a doubt, this is one of the most impressive association specimens I have seen not only from Leadville, but virtually any Colorado locality. Leadville is well known for its Silver deposits, but the secondary ore minerals from the Sherman mine are treasured by Colorado collectors. This piece features more associated species on the same specimen than I have seen from the Sherman mine. It features tiny white "snowflakes" of Cerussite lightly dusted with Rosasite on Azurite along with crystals of Smithsonite and Mimetite, plus the very rarely seen arsenate, Beudantite on a matrix of golden Baryte crystals, Galena and Quartz. I spent nearly 30 minutes with this piece under the microscope. It's an incredibly fun specimen to view under high magnification, and an amazing association specimen from one of the most storied mining districts in Colorado. Colorful secondary ore specimens are not the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of Colorado, and this piece is about as rich as it gets when it comes to species. This specimen was collected in 1980, and stands as one of the most unique pieces I have ever seen from Leadville. From C-22 Area. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

8.1 x 4.8 x 4.6 cm. A striking, 5.3 cm cluster of very glassy, striated, cyclically-twinned cerussite crystals aesthetically set on elongated, sculptural matrix from the Tsumeb Mine. I consider the cerussite to be pristine, as I am very hard-pressed to find any evidence of bruising. It has an adamantine sparkle and form, combined with unusual matrix that caused quite a bit of confusion. Ex. Philadephia Academy, Richard Gaines, Marcell and Charles Weber and Ed. David Collections. It was traded out of the Academy collection probably in the 1960s and then all previous owners thought this was a superb piece from the famous Wheatley Mine of Pennsylvania, which would have been collected in the 1850s or 1860s.

8.0 x 5.7 x 5.0 cm. Gemmy, amber wulfenite crystals to 1.0 cm are festooned on three sides of the sculptural matrix of solid, massive tennantite of this very fine old-time specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. Two of the wulfenite outcroppings are beautifully accented with reticulated and single cerussite crystals. The whole specimen is capped by two "mountains" of sharp, tetrahedral tennantite crystals to 1.7 cm. Classic combination material from this historic mine. The Scott Williams label, dating from 1955-1961, indicates that the piece was collected in 1958.

5.4 x 2.8 x 1.4 cm. A striking, large, glassy, smoky cerussite spear-point from the Tsumeb Mine. This complete-all-around, transparent crystal is in good shape, with only modest edge-wear and bruising. One termination face has interesting skeletal features. Classic material. Unusual in that it is not twinned, from here, this is a fine and robust crystal.

7.5 x 5.4 x 3.2 cm. An old-time, very fine combination specimen from the historic mines at Leadhills, Scotland. Sparkly, candy-apple green pyromorphite microcrystals in botryoids richly cover the vuggy, quartz-rich matrix. Seams of tiny cerussite crystals and crusts of contrasting, powder-blue caledonite round out this very rich lead ore piece. Leadhills is the Type Locality for caledonite. Classic combination material from the Robert Whitmore Collection.

You can look straight through from either end of this old-time crystal. Ex. Robert Whitmore Collection. Weighs 423 grams.

6.4 x 3.9 x 2.1 cm. A beautiful, vivid pink cobaltoan dolomite crust from Tsumeb with one side having the very rare association of glassy cerussite crystals. One cerussite cluster is a cyclic-twin and the other is a cluster of blades. This side is also sprinkled with cerussite microcrystals. We have never seen a pink Tsumeb dolomite with cerussite before. You usually see wulfenite crystals. Ex. Wes Parker Collection.

7.4 x 6.0 x 6.0 cm. Chatoyant, intergrown pseudomorphs of malachite after large azurite crystals form a fine, complete-all-around specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. The dominating large pseudomorph is 5.2 cm and is doubly terminated. One side is richly intergrown with gray, drusy cerussite. Ex. Wes Parker Collection. Highly representative pseudomorph material from this renowned locale.

3.8 x 3.2 x 1.7 cm. A 1.6-cm-long dioptase, fairly translucent, is perched on a reticulated cerussite here. A unique combination, and the only one like it I have seen amidst a small trickle of specimens from this new mine in the Kaokoveld plateau. Although not quite pristine on very close examination, it looks pristine from arms length, and anyways it is the contrast of color and geometry that so mesmerizes, here. It is, amongst so many Kaokoveld dioptase that have no associations at all with them, really surprising to me to see this one. Ex. Charlie Key.

6.9 x 5.7 x 4.8 cm. This is a colorful cluster of nearly massive dioptase, with admixed cerussite as well. From it spike out gem, elongated dioptase crystals to 2.1 cm. This is one of the few matrix specimens of this crystal style recovered from the mine as yet and who can say whether more will come? This habit of elongated crystals, in such gemminess, is really quite new, and beautiful. The important crystal is not damaged, despite its freestanding nature. It is partially coated on the backside by quartz, which helped to protect it. Ex. Charlie Key.

4.5 x 3.8 x 1.9 cm. A radial spray of pristine, glowing green, elongated dioptase crystals runs across the top of this flowery specimen. The crystals have the gemminess and transparency of this relatively new mine, which will someday be famous I predict. The brown, vitreous cerussite crystal in the middle is a nice accent. Ex. 3.3 x 1.7 x 0.9 cm. This is a superb thumbnail dioptase. It is gemmy - not just translucent. The crystal is doubly-terminated, and pristine at both ends, complete-all-around save for a small contact on the back, near the cerussite attachment. The gemminess and transparency on this thick crystal can be seen even in normal lighting. This piece is sharp. It has riveting geometry, great lustre, and that gemminess - plus a superb termination in an elongated style that is quite unique to this mine and dissimilar from classic dioptase crystals from Tsumeb, Congo, or Russia. For us, this was the most recent find represented in a small sequel of Charlie Key's collection which we acquired in early 2008. Ex. Charlie Key.
