Cerussite from Taouz, Er Rachidia Province, Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Morocco [db_pics/new2011/Cerussite-Morocco-78mm-6.jpg]

This is an exquisite reticulated cerussite, that at first glance LOOKS like it is from the classic and unique find at Tsumeb in the early 1970s by geologist/collector John Innes - the so-called "gracile" style which has been in high demand ever since. But, this is more robust in depth and less fragile than those typically were. In fact, it IS from Morocco, from recent finds actually (about 2007 or early 2008), and was said to be the best such example sold at the St Marie show in summer of 2008. It was purchased at that time by the US collectors, the Sussmans, for their general Moroccan collection, which they have since sold to me in order to pursue another geographic focus. It is shockingly pristine, and complete all around. In person, it sparkles with an adamantine lustre and a brightness hard to convey. For the same price, you can get a "typical" and "nice" Tsumeb piece of about this size, OR you can get among the best we have yet seen Morocco produce - and I think this has a unique pizzazz to it, overall. And, can you believe this came out pristine and survived to market?! Joe Budd photos

An old specimen from an obscure Cornwall locality, I am sure - but a combination I have not personally seen before. The piece is 3-dimensional and attractive, with minor damage but also a few choice show angles. I invite feedback on this one, as it’s a most unusual piece! The old label dated to the time clearly does state it is from Cornwall, though i cannot peg the mine. It does NOT have the look of cerussite from the Redburn Mine in Weardale, and my belief is that it really is an old Cornish piece as advertised. The malachite is sparkly and attractive.

This is a very unusual specimen of reddish cerussite, perhaps stained red by included iron or hematite? I haven't seen anything quite like it. It is complete on both sides except for the most trivial of dings on one small spoke. Actually, both starbursts are complete as well, even the bottom one on which i stand the piece up!

This specimen has a rich smoky color to it, excellent glassy lustre, and really displays with pizzazz! Larger reticulated cerussites of this style rarely survive intact from teh mine, and from handling for so long, because of the thick faces and edges which are so sensitive to being banged around in drawers. This one IS in fact remarkably pristine, near-perfect in fact, with just a small break on one minor rear-facing crystal spoke to the right of the major cluster but otherwise perfect all around (even at the very base!). This is a superb Tsumeb cerussite, history aside. But, the label is pretty neat as well (note the sale price of "1 gold mark" in 1926!).

A very choice single V-twin of lustrous Cerussite from Tiger, Arizona. This old piece has excellent aesthetics, and the rich pearly luster captures the eye. Most people see a good Mammoth Cerussite so rarely that they are simply unaware that there even is a US locality that produced such fine Cerussites - and FEW such twins, as this. ex Ernie Schlichter collection.

LW101 - Cerussite on Duftite - $ 550
Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region , Namibia

miniature, 3.9 x 3.3 x 2.3 cm

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

Gemmy and lustrous cyclic twin of Cerussite 2.8 cm across, sitting above Duftite, all on matrix. A fine combination piece with really dramatic appeal. Note the obvious glassiness of the crystal, which throws light off from all angles.

Nice twinned Cerussite with good luster and gemminess. What really make this specimen are the 2-3 mm Mimetites that are as gemmy, yellow and well-formed as you could possibly hope to find, on the matrix under it! Overall, a terrific combination piece.

Attractive set of four highly lustrous tabular crystals – the two larger crystals (up to 2.5 cm) are singles, while the smaller two show the beginnings of cyclic twinning. The color is a light smoky-grey, and there is a dusting of darker grey inclusions in the smaller crystals that adds a beautiful level of contrast. This is much better in person, as the naked eye can so much better discern the crystals’ uniform color.

Mined, in the 1830’s, this old-timer has quite a pedigree. The specimen consists of a pair of translucent 1.3 cm half-cyclic twins with excellent luster and good honey-brown color sitting on partially crystallized Galena. Both minerals are contacted or broken along the back, but that is not visible at all from the presentation side. It is a lucky miracle that this fine old classic has survived even this long. This is an excellent specimen. (ex. Archduke Stefan of Saxony Collection, via Martin Ehrmann from the Musuem of Bern to Richard Kosnar in the 1960s)

Snowflake (reticulated) Cerussite is one of the most-desired forms of this mineral, not only for the delicate beauty but the relative rarity. This mini had very good form and excellent luster. You simply do not find good snowflakes coming available that often. And from IRAN, no less? these came out one time in the early 1990s, and this is one of the finest all-around snowflakes from that find I have seen.

Classic twinning just beginning to show as the highly desirable snowflake pattern highlights this very fine Cerussite. The luster is excellent, almost silky in nature; and the light-honey-colored crystals range from truly gemmy to transluscent. This sharp Cerussite is a very visually appealing miniature and its hard to obtain such dramatic pieces today, in any size range for Tsuumeb cerussite.

8.3 x 3.0 x 1.3 cm. A large, complete, tabular crystal of cerussite from Tsumeb. Though rather rough and with some mineral attachment, the termination IS complete, and, in fact, the crystal is complete all the way around. It has good transparency, and a smoky color. Fine symmetrical form, and good luster. This is an old specimen.
