9.3 x 6.2 x 4.3 cm. These gleaming cassiterite crystals, to 2.8 cm, are set amongst poker-chip calcites and thin blades of muscovite. This locality is famous for both these cassiterites and wonderful orange scheelites.
2.5 x 2.5 x 1.3 cm. A VERY RARE and EXCELLENT thumbnail of a splendent, twinned, black cassiterite crystal from a MOST UNCOMMON worldwide locality - Busoro, Rwanda. The crystals, terminations and twinning plane are extremely sharp and the trivial bruising on the terminations is certainly not a detraction on this very showy piece from a RARE locality. Very seldom available. Ex. Carl Davis Collection.
9.0 x 7.9 x 1.6 cm. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen consists of several fine, sharp, highly lustrous, very dark grown cyclic twinned crystals measuring up to 2.0 cm which are intermixed with tan Siderite blades and a few gemmy Quartz crystals.
5.4 x 3.3 x 2.0 cm. Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen consists of several superb quality, sharp, highly lustrous, very dark brown (essentially black) cyclic twinned crystals measuring up to 2.3 cm which are associated with minor Siderite blades and a few Quartz crystals.
6.2 x 5.4 x 4.3 cm. Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen consists of one particular superb quality, sharp, highly lustrous, very dark brown (slightly gemmy) cyclic twinned crystal measuring a whopping 4.2 cm across and associated with smaller cyclic twins on minor Quartz. To find a twin of this size and quality from Viloco is extremely rare, and this piece dates back over 40 years ago when some of the finest Cassiterites were mined at Viloco. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.
This specimen features a 3 x 3 x 1 cm ilmenite nearly embedded in the quartz matrix. On its edges are perched SHARP cassiterite crystals to 1.25 cm. Some show twinning, I think. This is a MOST UNUSUAL association! I cannot recall seeing it from any other locality, before. It is the only such ilmenite we have, with epitaxial cassiterite association. 5.6 x 3.5 x 3.1 cm
6.0 x 2.7 x 2.4 cm. Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen consists of several fine, sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy, brown cyclic twinned crystals measuring up to 2.3 cm with minor crystals of Quartz on a small amount of matrix. This is a very attractive piece and one of the better ones for quality, luster and crystal size that I’ve seen in recent years. This classic material from Viloco is simply not seen for sale in today’s market.
6.4 x 4.6 x 3.5 cm. Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen consists of several fine, sharp, highly lustrous, very dark brown cyclic twinned crystals measuring up to 1.7 cm which are intermixed with tan Siderite blades and a few gemmy Quartz crystals. This is a very attractive piece and one of the better ones for quality, luster and crystal size that I’ve seen in recent years. The piece is in great shape, and most crystals are virtually damage free. It is a great display piece from this locality. This classic material from Viloco is simply not seen for sale in today’s market.
8.8 x 6.7 x 3.7 cm. Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This piece features sharp, highly lustrous, somewhat gemmy, brown and black color, cyclic twinned Cassiterite crystals associated with small Siderite discs and gemmy Quartz crystals. This specimen was actually mined about 20 years ago when Viloco was really pumping out specimens! This is a very attractive piece and one of the better ones for quality, luster and crystal size that I’ve seen in recent years. The piece is in great shape, and most crystals are virtually damage free, but the large "heart-shaped" twin on the top of the piece is dinged. It is still a great overall display piece. This classic material from Viloco is simply not seen for sale in today’s market.
One of two exquisite cassiterites from this region, Charlie prized. These are RAZOR-sharp, and so lustrous they have a surface like the finest jet obsidian, more lustrous even than Chinese cassiterite. Both specimens are complexly twinned, and mesmerizing to the eye. 3.2 x 3.1 x 2.3 cm
Note this one has a teeny ding on the upper edge of the left "wing"of the primary twinned crystal. So, otherwise it would be 2k...pride adjusted accordingly and its still a killer! 3.3 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm
6.2 x 5.1 x 2.3 cm. Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. 2.8 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm. A hefty, complete-all-around, untwinned crystal from a very classic old locality. It is extremely rare to find anything good from this old locale. Ex. American Museum of Natural History.
4.2 x 4.1 x 1.8 cm. Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen consists of several fine, sharp, highly lustrous, black/brown cyclic twinned crystals measuring up to 1.8 cm with minor crystals of Quartz on a small amount of Siderite matrix. This is a very attractive piece and one of the better ones for quality, luster and crystal size that I've seen in recent years. The piece is in great shape, and most crystals are virtually damage free. It is a great display specimen. This classic material from Viloco is simply not seen for sale in today's market. Ex. Brian Kosnar.
3.1 x 3.0 x 2.6 cm. A highly lustrous, very sharp, partially gemmy, chocolate-brown cassiterite crystal from Schlaggenwald, Bohemia, Czech Republic. This is CLASSIC, OLD-TIME and textbook material from this historic locality, which is not diminished by the contacting on the back. This fine piece bears a strong resemblance to Bolivian and Chinese cassiterites but nevertheless is unique and more historic. Ex. Charles Hansen Collection.
