A stunning thumbnail, with brilliant mirror lustre and great symmetry, from early 2000's finds here. It is complete all around but for a small bit of damage on bottom, and one tiny ding on a side edge. It is otherwise pristine, and the lustre is of highest quality : it looks like a metallic diamond when shown off.

5.2 x 4.4 x 4.3 cm. Lovely Carrollite crystal that has all you could ask for: brilliant luster, excellent form, and a nice association with Calcite and Bornite. The Carrollite itself is 1 cm across and virtually pristine.

5.3 x 3.8 x 3.0 cm. Three, mounded clusters of silvery bright carrollite crystals are aesthetically set on the front of a lustrous, translucent and colorless calcite cleavage rhomb. Lustrous, sculptural, brass-yellow chalcopyrite crystals nicely accent both the front and back of this UNCOMMON and really showy, two-sided, combination specimen from Shaba Province, Zaire.

This specimen features Large carrollite octohedrons with INCREDIBLE IRIDESCENCE, unlike any I have ever seen! It is probably a natural oxidation coating that is perhaps accidentally removed in prep of other specimens? These crystals sit on malachite-included calcite matrix. Yes, the carrollite crystals are damaged and there is some edge wear, especially on teh back if not as bad on the display face; BUT if perfect, this would be a five-figure specimen!! A fabulous representative specimen of the species and easily worth ????? Hard to say. I expect it is worth anywhere from $750-1000 at the least. the thing is, you will never find a crystal this large or this showy for under a grand, in my opinion, pristine or not. This one happens to be a sacrificial trim off an even larger specimen and so i can risk it at auction....7.7 x 5.3 x 4.4 cm

5.2 x 3.2 x 2.9 cm. A single sharp, seemingly cubic crystal of brilliant platinum-metallic carrollite shines out from calcite here…but cubic? Approximately 7mm in size. No, it is, rather, twinned. This is a great rarity from now-famous finds which seem to be over, here.

2.3 x 1.4 x 1.2 cm. This lovely thumbnail has crystals with the complex habit, detailed faces, sharp edges, and mirror surfaces that make this a classic for Carrollite crystals. What sets this specimen apart is the distinct nature of the crystals – although intergrown, they each maintain their own visual personality. This came from the best strike ever for the species, about 5 years ago now (2003-2004). Ex. Wendell E. Wilson Collection.

3.1 x 2 x 1.7 cm. A elegant pair of well-developed Carrollite crystals from the famous locality in Katanga. The largest crystal is 1.5 cm along the edge (larger across) and very 3-dimensional. Not only is the form and combination excellent, but the minute dendritic etching along the faces is absolutely stunning. A great, aesthetic large thumbnail specimen from Charlie Key’s extensive thumbnail collection amassed over 40 years.

8.2 x 7.5 x 6.7 cm. When these new Carrollite specimens were first found about 5-6 years ago, they were instantly regarded as the best of species ever found. Some of the largest, sharpest, most impressive crystals of this rare copper, cobalt, nickel sulfide came out of this find. This particular specimen features hosts a few fine, sharp, well formed, lustrous, silvery color, octahedra up to 6 mm with very slight cubic modifications. Crystals of Carrollite on matrix are less common in my experience. These pieces seemed to have dried up quickly, and I don't know if more will be found.

Seldom do you find a combination piece with such nice aesthetics (unless you are dealing with this wonderful collection, of course). The large octahedral Carrollite had a rich metallic luster and very interesting modified edges. The Bornite crystals resting on the Carrollite are highly modified, but the depth of the black color is so perfectly complemented by the velvety texture and the rounded crystal edges that the overall look is extremely pleasing - as well as contrasting to teh carrollite so that both stand out fully. A unique combination piece with incredible aesthetics for a "black ugly" ! 2.2 x 1.8 x 1.7 cm
