15.5 x 8.5 x 7.5 cm. A striking, very imposing, large cabinet cave specimen from Poland and the Dave Stoudt Collection. The top of this dramatic piece is covered with unique and unusual, calcite cave "popcorn". The field of cave "popcorn" rests on classic, lamellar-growth, lustrous and translucent, brown, cave travertine. The "popcorn" field is in excellent condition. Dave lived and worked in Poland, and according to his catalogue, purchased this very unusual piece in Warsaw in September, 1999.

7.0 x 4.8 x 4.4 cm. A cluster of very lustrous, transparent crystals of calcite from Spain, radiating outwards on a small bit of matrix. The sharp, chunky crystals measure to 3.5 inches in length.

Pyrite, Calcite from Chenzhong (?), Hunan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-212051b.jpg]

15.9 x 10.4 x 6.1 cm. This find was made a couple of years back in China, and is absolutely unique: glittery, golden pyrite on the edges of huge (to over 9 cm across) crystals of calcite. Some of the specimens had very sparse coverage of pyrite, just a salting, but here, it is richly carpeting the crystal edges.

Calcite (Var: Manganoan Calcite) from Montreal, Iron Co., Wisconsin, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-212068a.jpg]

8.4 x 7.8 x 6.8 cm. This is a very rare specimen: pink manganoan calcite from Wisconsin, with the delicate pastel pink tone lent by manganese content. This is a sort of egg-shaped specimen with both isolated and massed balls of the sparkly pink calcite. Ex. Consie Prince Collection.

Sphalerite, Calcite, Dolomite from Tri-State District, Jasper Co., Missouri, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-212069a.jpg]

14.4 x 7.4 x 2.9 cm. From the Feist Collection, a large matrix covered with dolomite crystals, upon which sit fat crystals of sphalerite (opaque-looking, but actually a coffee color inside). Atop a mound of the sphalerite crystals, a lone scalenohedron of calcite has grown. You can see little chalcopyrites scattered around as well.

15.5 x 11.8 x 7.8 cm. This is a huge specimen for what it is. You sometimes see little pockets of this pretty mineral, but this pocket measures 13 cm in length. It is lined with calcite that is both on and included by robin’s-egg blue aurichalcite. Matrix is the typical rust-colored limonite, which makes for a pretty contrast here. From mining in the 1970s. Ex. Consie Prince Collection.

9.6 x 7.6 x 5.8 cm. This specimen reminds me of a sugar Easter egg you used to get as a kid where you looked inside to see a little scene. On a snowy blanket of sparkly quartz inside this pocket, which has "windows" on either end, are several super-gemmy little tan crystals of calcite. Fortunately, they are near the "windows" so you can see them clearly from either side. Ex. Consie Prince Collection.

18.9 x 15.2 x 12.2 cm. This is a very large, gaping pocket lined with sharp dogtooth crystals of calcite, upon which sit sharp crystals of sphalerite measuring to 1.5 cm. They are quite dramatic in their isolation on the contrasting stark white calcites. This fine piece is from mining in 1979.

Calcite (Var: Manganoan Calcite) from Manaoshan Mine, Yizhang Co., Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-212119a.jpg]

18.9 x 14.5 x 7.4 cm. A large plate of piled-up towers of pink "pagoda" calcite from a find about two years ago. The delicate pastel pink color is from manganese content. These crystal "towers" are made up of many individual, flat pyramidal crystals that grow atop one another. With this specimen, the towers have grown as high as 5 cm above the matrix; this specimen is pretty much all made up of crystals.

7.0 x 6.0 x 4.8 cm. A very unusual and showy, knob-like, spiky cluster of purple to brown fluorite pseudomorphs after sharp calcite scalenohedrons. This complete all-around and nearly damage-free specimen hails from the less well-known Aurora Mine, Cuchillo Parado, Chihuahua, Mexico. The little fan-like rosettes of an unknown mineral scattered on the specimen are a vey nice accent. Rare and excellent material from this locale.

Calcite from Wessels Mine (Wessel's Mine), Hotazel, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa [db_pics/mdpics/MD-213108a.jpg]

4 x 3.5 x 2 cm. A classic example of the relatively rare gemmy Calcite with Manganite phantoms from the Wessels Mine. The luster is superb, and the Calcite is perfectly gemmy save for the well-defined phantom. One end is well-terminated, while the other has been cleaved, probably from contact. The phantom is very sharp and it is also a real plus to find one so nicely set on matrix. A very good specimen. Ex. Charlie Key.

11.5 x 8.0 x 7.0 cm. A superb cabinet combination specimen from the Verchniy Mine at Dal’negorsk. A gorgeous, 7.0 cm, doubly terminated, transparent to translucent, glassy calcite crystal is superbly placed, front and center, on matrix covered with a multitude of glassy quartz crystals. The quartz crystal rosette on the right side of the calcite is striking. Ex. Karl Warning Collection and purchased from Russian dealer Yuri Pavel in 2006 at the Denver Show.
