6.3 x 4.5 x 3.2 cm. Light amber calcite rhombs are sprinkled on a centrally placed cluster of powder-blue cavansite on this fine specimen from Wagholi, India. The sparkly stilbite-covered basalt matrix is very 3-dimensional and adds a nice accent to this piece.
18.9 x 17.9 x 7.4 cm. Here is a very large forest of spiky crystals of shimmering calcite that formed a cast over the original, underlying scalenohedrons of calcite. If you flip the specimens over, you see that the bottom and sides are also covered with these crystals - it is hollow through the center, with crystals spiking out all around it. On the surface of the cream-colored calcite are tiny spheres of pyrite. This is a very unusual, large and pretty specimen from Romania. Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection.
8.9 x 6.9 x 4.4 cm. This is a knob of milky quartz crystals radiating from a central point. One half of the quartz cluster is covered with little translucent calcites with pyramidal terminations. Formerly in the collection of Caldwell College in New Jersey in addition to the Hauck Collection.
8.9 x 7.9 x 5.4 cm. Big, dramatic calcite crystals with surface inclusions of iron impurities giving them this dazzling bright orange color. This specimen from the classic Orange Pocket at the Delta Carbonate Quarry in York County, where the iron impurities made the crystals in this pocket unlike any others. The crystals are translucent, and measure to a whopping 6 cm. Ex George Feist collection.
11.9 x 11.9 x 3.9 cm. This is a truly weird Chinese fluorite specimen, for several reasons. Starting with the fluorites - which are light teal-colored cubes enclosing cuboctahedral phantoms with purple bevels. The edges of the fluorites are highly modified, with complex stepping. They sit above a field of creamy calcite crystals, with a few larger, euhedral golden ones. And barely visible amidst the calcites are areas of pale pink rhodochrosite - you can see it as the pinkish areas in the photo. They do not stand out much and are micro-crystalline rather than really aesthetic, but it is the association that makes this specimen so interesting.
14.5 x 12.4 x 10.2 cm. An incredible burst or "flower" of translucent calcite crystals, on a bed of purple amethyst. These fine, sharp scalenohedrons measure to over 3 cm.
20.8 x 14.5 x 8.3 cm. A superb, very large, pristine crystal of calcite, centered perfectly on the pocket wall where it formed. This 8 cm crystal is fabulously lustrous, and has gentle striations on the pyramidal termination faces that adds a lot of character. It shimmers from within from internal reflections. The crystal sits on a bed of colorless, jewel-like little calcites.
29 x 18 x 6.5 cm. This is a giant plate of calcite crystals from a spectacular find in Leiping. The crystals are instantly recognizable as from this find - extremely wide and chunky, with flashing, symmetrical pyramidal tips, and internal phantoms clearly visible. The terminations of some of these crystals measure 3 cm across.
18 x 14 x 14 cm. A huge matrix covered complete on the display side with shimmering, transparent golden fluorite crystals. A couple of calcite crystals, the larger measuring 7 cm, have grown on this field of fluorites. While secondary to the main cluster of fluorite on which they sit, they are a nice accent. A beautiful, large, sparkling yellow fluorite - and of rare size for the locale.
SHARP crystal showing so many subtle modifications to the crysatl form that I cannot even describe it myself. Exquisite crysatl from recent mining in this region. I am told the area was first found by a German mineral collector on his way to Tucson who got off a tour bus and went poking around! 6.0 x 2.0 x 1.9 cm
A fine specimen of calcite with classic Tsumeb form - stepped rhombohedra one upon the other. Nice! 8.3 x 6.1 x 3.9 cm
These boulangerite-included calcites usually appear as larger blooms of sheaf-like crystals that are a solid mossy green, but this is a single crystal rhombohedron, beautifully "twisted", with the color isolated on one side like yin and yang symbols, and a distinct white phantom in the middle! 2.5 x 2.5 x 1 cm
Sharp calcite crystals still cupped in the hinge of the clamshell in which they formed, the shell sitting on a perfect "base" of grey conglomerate. A particularly aesthetic example from one of the few discoveries of collector-quality mineral specimens in Florida. 6.5 x 5 x 4.3 cm
A stunning, complete, fossilized CABINET mollusc shell with a remnant of shell material and a beautiful tunnel vug lined with golden gemmy calcite crystals to 1.3 cm from the recent Florida finds. 10.3 x 8.4 x 4.7 cm
A stunning, superb and pristine CABINET specimen of lustrous snow-white calcite rhombs to 3.1 x 2.0 cm preferentially coated with gemmy dioptase crystals to 4 mm from Tsumeb. 11.0 x 6.0 x 5.8 cm
