Mineral Specimens with Calcite

3.9 x 2.9 x 1.4 cm. Gemmy, flashy little crystals of dioptase are intermixed with tiny rhombs of calcite for a pleasing contrast on this bright, beautiful Tsumeb classic.
6.5 x 6.4 x 3.4 cm. Definitely one of the prettiest and most delicate I have seen from this find of sparkly, golden pyrite crystals selectively deposited on the edges of translucent, platy calcite discs. You can see clearly that some of the pyrites are embedded in the calcite edges, and others are included inside the crystals. A wonderful example from this unique find!
10.9 x 5.3 x 4.7 cm. A big, bright, golden jewel of calcite from the Elmwood, which sadly is no longer open and producing these world-class twins. This one is wonderfully complete and large, and has super transparency. Like most of these, it has a bit of tip damage, but is overall in very good condition. And again, no more of these coming out!
9.4 x 9.0 x 5.1 cm. A huge cluster of crystalline sphalerite, the zinc ore mineral that was the reason for the Elmwood, on matrix, with little jewel-like calcite twins speckled all over both the sphalerite and the matrix. For all the profusion of Elmwood specimens that came out while the mine was open, this one is really unique!
7.0 x 6.3 x 3.7 cm. Emerald-green, gemmy dioptase crystals to 7 mm RICHLY and aesthetically line a vertical vug set in calcite matrix on this showy and excellent specimen from an UNCOMMON dioptase locality - the Dumesnil Quarry, Cordoba, Argentina. Ex Dave Stoudt Collection. Dave worked and lived in Buenos Aires and purchased this there during that time.
11.0 x 10.7 x 5.1 cm. A showy, OLD-TIME CABINET specimen of melted-look, variably lustrous galena crystals richly covering the top of vuggy, massive calcite matrix invested with numerous, colorless calcite scalenohedrons on both the front and back of the piece. This is CLASSIC material from the famed St. Andreasberg District of Germany. This old-timer comes from an old European collection, where everything dates to the 1800s. This whole collection had myriad old materials, though I cannot name the owner, and was well known in Europe.
5.3 x 3.8 x 3.0 cm. Three, mounded clusters of silvery bright carrollite crystals are aesthetically set on the front of a lustrous, translucent and colorless calcite cleavage rhomb. Lustrous, sculptural, brass-yellow chalcopyrite crystals nicely accent both the front and back of this UNCOMMON and really showy, two-sided, combination specimen from Shaba Province, Zaire.
10.2 x 7.0 x 5.5 cm. A classic and showy Tsumeb calcite varietal from the Rob Smith Collection. Dramatically stepped-faced, very glassy, flattened calcite rhombs are lightly tinted by hematite or are water-clear and colorless. The STRIKING, 4.3 cm, butterfly-like cluster of intergrown rhombs dominating one end of the mounded CABINET matrix is beautiful. A very attractive specimen.
6.9 x 5.4 x 3.9 cm. Gary Hansen self-collected these unusual specimens in South Dakota in the 60s - very sculptural and beautiful floater clusters of calcite crystals, delicately intergrown, included by grains of sand so that they look almost like stone sculptures! This one is out of the collection of noted California collector Charles Hansen (no relation).
10.4 x 8.4 x 2.7 cm. The exceptional clarity of these fluorite crystals makes me think this is from the older finds from maybe 10 years ago at the Okarusu rather than the more recent finds. They have a gorgeous greenish-teal color, and measure to over 2 cm on edge. The backside of this cluster is covered with small crystals as well, indicating that the cluster was loose in the pocket, allowing crystals to form on what used to be the matrix attachment face.
2.2 x 1.7 x 1.1 cm. This is superb dioptase thumbnail. On crystallized white calcite are aesthetically perched, emerald green, gemmy, lustrous dioptase crystals to 1.3 cm.
6.8 x 4.9 x 3.4 cm. Rather than being a plate or covering of cobaltoan calcite crystals massed together on matrix, here you have large individual compound crystals, gemmy and pink, grouped together on a contrasting matrix of mineral-coated rhombohedral calcites. I think the effect is really gorgeous, and certainly "different."
13.9 x 9.4 x 8.9 cm. Here, stibnite (bladed) dominates as a large field of shiny crystals, and there is a small calcite (but a real JEWEL-like one), measuring 2 cm.
11.9 x 9.3 x 8.9 cm. These lustrous calcites look like pyramids with bevels running along the edges. They get their color from inclusions of hematite. The size variations in the crystals, from little sparkly micro-crystals to larger ones up to 2.5 cm across, creates a pretty relief effect.
9.5 x 7.1 x 5.9 cm. Stark white scalenohedrons of calcite intergrown with step-faced octahedrons of translucent, light green fluorite - from Mexico.
