11.9 x 8.2 x 7.4 cm. A large KILLER specimen of magnetite from the former Soviet Republic, with sharp crystals up to 3 cm across piled up on the matrix, and accented by translucent, silky scalenohedrons of calcite. This is a very hard thing to obtain. The crystals are huge and of a rare habit for magnetite.
7.3 x 5.9 x 2.7 cm. A lustrous, light-amber colored calcite crystal, with complex "cut-glass" face modifications, from Indiana. There is a little bruise on top but its in great shape overall and a superb example from this little-known locality . From the important Midwest collection of George Feist.
4.6 x 3.9 x 2.6 cm. A PRISTINE and aesthetic Tsumeb specimen of a 3.3 cm, glassy, transparent to translucent, colorless calcite rhomb artistically set on mottramite-covered matrix. The calcite rhomb is a beautiful, complete, 360 degree crystal with a few stepped faces. Undamaged Tsumeb calcites of this quality are difficult to obtain and the color contrast between the calcite and mottramite is striking. Ex. Rob Smith Collection.
3.9 x 3.7 x 2.4 cm. A sharp cluster featuring very rich color, and an unusual association with crystallized calcite! This is new material collected recently from this classic old locality that is difficult to access, by my friend Rod Tyson (a semi-retired mineral dealer and well-known Canadian field collector!).
9.7 x 6.3 x 6.0 cm. A pristine, lustrous, hematite-included calcite rhomb nicely attached to a conichalcite crust from Tsumeb. This large, 4.0 cm, nail-head crystal has good lustre and outstanding stepped-growth faces. Excellent material from the George Elling Collection.
6.0 x 5.3 x 3.2 cm. A SUPERB and AESTHETIC Olinghouse gold specimen. This showy piece is RICHLY covered with nests filled with tiny, scintillating gold wires. The gold is etched out of the cream-colored calcite that fills the vugs in the porphyritic host rock. This excellent gold displays beautifully without any aide. Ex. Scott Kleine Collection.
8.0 x 6.8 x 4.1 cm. A HIGHLY UNUSUAL and showy, old-time specimen from the famous Mina Ojuela of ultra-sparkly siderite microcrystals festooned on a sculpturally shaped box-work matrix of bladed calcite crystals. I have never seen another Mina Ojuela siderite remotely approaching this one. Ex. George Elling Collection.
20.5 x 15.9 x 9.4 cm. This was just such a unique look for calcite, it is no wonder collectors loved them and bought them all up the year they came out. This specimen has not only all the great qualities of this find, but also prodigious size, for the cabinet collector. It features lustrous columns of tightly intergrown, flat pyramidal crystals, with a gorgeous pastel pink color from the manganese content. This also gives them nice orange fluorescence.
23.3 x 13.4 x 13.2 cm. This is a very impressive large cabinet specimen of transparent calcites on matrix. Very 3-dimensional! For scale, the crystal at the center right measures 9 cm. The crystals are in great condition, with just one very small cleave to be found on one crystal, other than the normal cleaves at the periphery of the specimen. The calcites sit on a field of included quartz crystals for sharp contrast. One rarely sees such large Dal’negorsk plates as they are often broken up to make more salable, and transportable, smaller specimens.
19.4 x 12.9 x 12.4 cm. A find from a few years ago that is all gone now. These crystals are distinguished by their very lustrous pyramidal terminations and internal phantoms. In this case, which is rare for these, you can clearly see the light-colored edges of the internal phantoms, rotated a half-turn inside the outer crystals! 90% of these had significant bruising, but this one has virtually none, and is way above the crowd in terms of luster as well. So it represents the cream of the crop for both quality and size.
9.7 x 5.9 x 5.7 cm. A DRAMATIC old Naica specimen featuring two large, frosty intergrown crystals of calcite (to 5.5 cm tip-to-tip) beautifully accented by the flashy, dark sphalerites on the natural matrix base. The calcites are in pristine condition.
8.4 x 5.9 x 4.7 cm, 4.4 x 4.4 x 1.5 cm. Two specimens of very pale sky-blue-grey blades of anhydrite, decorated with spiky, translucent calcite twins - beautiful combo and classic from Naica! Ex. Ydren Collection.
5.6 x 3.4 x 2.4 cm. A cluster of calcite crystals, some of them wrapping around one another, from what is perhaps the greatest old locality in America, Bisbee. The crystals measure to 2 cm. Could easily be VERY old - miners there began saving calcite specimens quite early, recognizing their great variety and interest. Ex. John Ydren Collection.
10.4 x 10.4 x 4.9 cm. From the Wein collection, heavy in Alpine rarities, a large plate of sharp, hexagonal calcite crystals from the Swiss Alps, frosty and translucent, measuring to 2.5 cm.
12.2 x 7.8 x 3.9 cm. Frosty spikes of calcite to 9 cm, on a base of copper-rich greenish matrix, from Brazil. One of the large crystals does not have its termination, but the main 9-cm one does.
