6.7 x 3.6 x 3.6 cm. An Arkansas classic. Fine lustrous blades of pink Dolomite coated with beautiful Chalcopyrite, topped by a 2.5 cm Calcite also coated with Chalcopyrite. Very lovely, and a great combination piece for this well-known district. There are a few cleaved blades of Dolomite, and a few bruises on the Calcite, but overall it is in remarkably good shape considering the difficulty of the mining there.
4.5 x 3.1 x 2.5 cm. Wonderful water-clear, purple fluorite cubes to 1.4 cm with beautiful edge phantoms and unusual frosted, modified corners very aesthetically set on lustrous, off-white calcite rhombs from the famous Shangbao Mine of China. Fluorites of this quality are becoming a classic and this super piece has two very displayable views.
9.0 x 4.1 x 3.1 cm. An impressive, large, doubly terminated, amber calcite crystal attached to galena and calcite matrix and aesthetically mounted for display from the George Feist Collection #1435. This pristine, lustrous and translucent beauty has a nice interior phantom and the pyramidal terminations are very distinctive and more transparent. I particularly like the way the crystal tapers to the smaller termination. Classic and very fine Viburnum Trend material from the famous Sweetwater Mine.
9.5 x 8.5 x 4.1 cm. A CLASSIC, OLD-TIME and EXCELLENT plate richly covered with glassy, colorless, nailhead calcite crystals to 3.7 cm on hematite-rich matrix from Egremont, England. The calcite crystals project at many different angles, giving a dramatic effect. Amazingly, this is essentially a pristine specimen. All of the major crystals are undamaged. Easily around 100 years old. Ex. George Elling Collection.
10.1 x 9.9 x 5.5 cm. A large specimen from a pretty and unusual find in China about 2 years ago, of calcite crystals whose edges are covered with a bright golden, melty-looking pyrite! Unique material and beautiful as you can see!
16.4 x 12.2 x 6.4 cm. This is a large and spectacular Tsumeb calcite specimen out of the notable collection of Uli Bahmann. It has the most unique and gorgeous look to it - mostly due to the truly PEARLY luster of the calcites. What you have is two domes made up of dozens of rhombohedral crystals, to 2.5 cm. The entire surface shimmers like pearl - it actually has a light creamy pearl-like color, too, which does not show up in the pic. This unique specimen from what is probably the #1 worldwide mineral locality is in fabulous condition.
4.4 x 4.1 x 2.4 cm. Sadly, the mining of these appears to be FINISHED, at least for now. This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. The hinge of the shell remains on the back underside. Not many fine collector specimens come from Florida, of course!
6.4 x 5.4 x 3.3 cm. A single, pristine "spike" of calcite rises from a V formed by two other crystals intergrown with copper-rich matrix.
10.9 x 7.9 x 7.8 cm. Lest you think the Yaogangxian always turns out the same things - here is a rare manganoan calcite from there that looks more like something from Russian or Eastern Europe! These light pink poker chip crystals, to 3.5 cm across, are beautifully piled up on a matrix of sparkly quartz crystals. Even you Chinese mineral collectors may not have seen one of these!
14.1 x 7.4 x 7.2 cm. Despite a contact at the tip, this large calcite "scepter" is awfully impressive! It is a scepter not in the sense of a traditional crystal sceptred form but in the sense of a "royal" scepter - actually, formed stalactitically, with the elongated central crystal capped by a spiky cluster. There is a thin tube that runs right through the center of the big crystal, marking the center of the stalactite. Stunning!
6.4 x 5.8 x 3.9 cm. The Daye Mine just keeps putting out a staggering VARIETY, if not quantity, of mineral specimens. Here is a new form of calcite from there - snowy balls that on close appearance have rosette-like surfaces, piled up on the sparing matrix.
8.0 x 5.9 x 3.9 cm. This specimen is from a very small, apparently one-time find we bought the best pieces from about a year ago. Very distinctive, translucent-to-transparent crystals, with a waxy luster and an orange tone, probably from inclusion of hematite. The large crystal here measures 5.5 cm. Both crystals are undamaged and complete all around.
4.9 x 2.6 x 2.4 cm. A tan/yellow cube of fluorite sits atop a column of white calcite - an old-timer from England. The fluorite measures 1.5 cm and has a good display face, with the contact in back.
11.3 x 10.9 x 7.6 cm. This is a huge, incredibly rich specimen of a highly prized calcite varietal, the pink cobaltoan-rich variety well-known from this locality. What makes this specimen special, in addition to its amazing richness and size, is the variegated color resulting from the mix of deep pink crystals and more sugary ones. It is not only very beautiful, but so hard to come by in this magnitude!
9.9 x 4.9 x 4.8 cm. This is a scepter not in the sense of a traditional crystal sceptred form but in the sense of a "royal" scepter - actually, formed stalactitically, with the elongated central crystal capped by a spiky cluster. There is a thin tube that runs right through the center of the big crystal, marking the center of the stalactite. This is from a small batch of these we acquired, from the same pocket. This one is in pristine condition! Stunning!
