Calcite from Leiping Mine, Leiping, Guiyang Co., Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-137415a.jpg]

15.3 x 12.4 x 8.9 cm. The mining of these spectacular plates of calcite ended around a year and a half ago. They are distinctive in many ways. First of all, they are fat and chunky, to almost 3 cm across, with perfectly-sharp pyramidal terminations. They inter-grow with one another into these beautiful piles. And, they also have a really nice glassy luster. Plus, while these often have bruises, this one has just a few tiny ones. It is BIG, too!

Stibiconite, Stibnite, Calcite from Catorce (Real de Catorce), Mun. de Catorce, San Luis Potosí, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-137554a.jpg]

16.1 x 4.4 x 4.1 cm. While these pseudormorphs are not the most beautiful things in the world, they are great Mexican classics. That is, IF you can find one of this quality - which is extremely rare. The stibnite looks to have completely altered to stibiconite. The very large crystal is complete, undamaged and un-contacted, and terminated. But, most importantly, there is this beautiful cluster of calcites around the bottom that makes this really unique and aesthetic, since the vast majority of these are just single crystals with no matrix or attachments.

5.8 x 4.9 x 3.7 cm. A cluster of gemmy, golden calcite crystals, the largest containing a phantom! This is a floater cluster with no attachments, and all the terminations are complete. There is no damage. A card from Gary Hansen accompanies this specimen, showing it to have been found in January of 1974 (by him, perhaps, as he was a field collector, and the exactness of the date would seem to suggest it).

21.9 x 6.9 x 6.3 cm. Pretty much anything from the great old Bisbee locality gets a lot of collector interest. And this is truly interesting - a complete, elongated vug of mostly solid malachite with some limonite mixed in - lined with crystals of creamy calcite! A very unusual specimen from a classic locality!

8.4 x 6.3 x 5.2 cm. From an old collection - a pocket or geode completely lined with sparkly calcite on a layer of underlying hemimorphite. Omega Mine specimens are very rare on the market!

9.2 x 5.7 x 4.2 cm. A super aesthetic, 3-dimensional cluster of VERY glassy, transparent, stacked very faint tan calcite rhombs from Tsumeb. Unbelievably pristine, many of the rhombs have interior phantoms and duftite included in the corners.

6.5 x 4.8 x 3.3 cm. An aesthetic and classic Sweetwater Mine calcite specimen. Two, opposing, lustrous, translucent and lightly frosted, light tan calcite crystals to 5.7 cm are attached to silicified limestone matrix at very attractive angles. The glassy terminations on the hexagonal crystals are a highlight of this pristine piece. Ex. George Feist Collection.

4.6 x 4.2 x 2.4 cm. A SUPERB and AESTHETIC Tsumeb specimen. Isolated, very gemmy and lustrous, emerald-green dioptase crystals to 1.4 cm are BEAUTIFULLY scattered on sculptural matrix of sparkly, tiny, white calcite rhombs. ALL of the dioptase crystals are pristine, except for a very trivial, barely noticeable bruise, on the lower front edge of the large crystal. Discrete gemmy dioptase crystals on white calcite are THE most desirable Tsumeb dioptase combination.

11.4 x 7.1 x 6.2 cm. A fat, 8.5-cm, golden crystal of calcite beautifully set on matrix, from the Sweetwater Mine in Missouri. It is complete and undamaged! You can see BOTH terminations - the main one extending out over the matrix, and then a thin, multi-peaked one where the other end of the crystal meets the matrix. Ex. Feist Collection.

4.0 x 3.3 x 1.5 cm. A FLOATER of delicate creamy-yellow, translucent calcites that have formed on a "bowl" or rosette of dolomite! No contacts - this combo is a complete (and very unusual) Tsumeb floater specimen!

Calcite, Hematite from Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdán, Chihuahua, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-139144a.jpg]

11.3 x 7.0 x 4.2 cm. We have lately been featuring some very unusual specimens from the old Santa Eulalia mining area, and this is no exception: a branching, floater cluster of translucent calcite crystals richly included with hematite, which gives them their color. The calcites are complex compound crystals, growing out from a central area in roughly a V pattern.

14.3 x 11.0 x 5.0 cm. Is this not just an incredibly beautiful mineral specimen? Not only that, it is quite uncommon. Amethyst has pseudomorphed a row of frosty calcite crystals in the center. Contrasting with these is a bed of darker, gemmy prisms that surround the pseudomorphs. This specimen has size, beauty and the interest of the pseudomorphs - a lot going for one specimen!

Celestine, Calcite from Clay Center, Ottawa Co., Ohio, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-139233a.jpg]

7.8 x 2.4 x 1.0 cm. A PRISTINE Clay Center celestine, with an unusually thin tabular form that allows light through and creates uncommon transparency for these. These two tightly-intergrown crystals rise and terminate side-by-side. Two light amber calcites decorate one side, an unusual bonus for this beautiful mini of an American classic. The camera did not pick up the subtle grey-blue color of the Celestine, nor the light amber of the calcites - but it is there.

Calcite from Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdán, Chihuahua, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-139260a.jpg]

8.6 x 5.4 x 5.1 cm. These bizarre calcites were found over 50 years ago in Santa Eulalia; this one came out of an old collection. They are very distinctive, most of them with one crystal having grown around and engulfed another, as in this case. The "inner" crystal was coated with dark hematite before the "outer" one encased it, which fortunately creates a wonderful contrast between the two crystals (this was common for this find). In very good condition! Superb example of twinning, as well.

15.9 x 12.3 x 1.2 cm. This is a fine very large, show-stopping Buick Mine calcite specimen. These two large crystals have been perfectly trimmed out in the middle of the matrix, with no contact or damage. They have gemmy pyramidal tips and frosted side faces. The larger one measures a very impressive 9 cm in height! Ex. Feist Collection.
