5.4 x 4.1 x 2.3 cm. An oddball, never seen the like. This seems to be a hollow cast of chalcedony after stacked hexagonal calcite plates. Charlie was not sure where it came from, except he bought it in Erongo so presumed it was from nearby. Ex. Charlie Key Collection. This Photo was Mindat.org Photo of the Day - 30th Nov 2007
14.6 x 12.2 x 7.3 cm. China has provided us with a plethora of Calcite specimens of all habits, colors and sizes. This specimen is a new piece from Chenzhou featuring pseudo-pyritohedral, very light straw colored crystal on Quartz matrix.
9.0 x 7.4 x 7.0 cm. China has provided us with a plethora of Calcite specimens of all habits, colors and sizes. This specimen is a lovely piece from the Leiping mine featuring two generations of Calcite, the first being a reddish-brown rhombohedron with a silvery-white overgrowth.
8.2 x 3.6 x 2.1 cm. China has provided us with a plethora of Calcite specimens of all habits, colors and sizes. This specimen is one of the seldom seen skeletal or hollow colorless Calcites from Bao Shan.
9.6 x 7.8 x 3.7 cm. This specimen is nice little piece of the famous pink "poker chip" Calcites from Chenzhou.
8.7 x 6.0 x 3.8 cm. This specimen is a beautiful reddish doubly-terminated Calcite with a smaller twinned reddish Calcite on matrix from the Daye mine.
6.2 x 5.1 x 2.4 cm. This piece is a nice little specimen consisting of gemmy golden twinned Calcite crystals on matrix from Nandan.
6.4 x 5.3 x .3.5 cm. What makes this Tsumeb dioptase specimen so gorgeous is that the small, intensely sparkling crystals are isolated on the contrasting white calcite rather than being massed together - which really makes them jump out at you. Of course, ALL Tsumeb dioptases are now highly sought-after - they and azurites are probably THE stars of this famous locality which probably ranks as the most productive of great specimens in history.
10.1 x 6.6.9 x 6.3 cm. You could hardly ask for a more strikingly aesthetic example of a Missouri calcite than this one! Three golden, translucent crystals, the largest measuring 6 cm, rise from a matrix covered with sparkly golden pyrite. The calcites are more transparent and less "milky white" in person than they appear in the photos. Ex. Feist Collection.
7.4 x 7.1 x 3.8 cm. This prolific Brazilian locality has turned out calcites in a dizzying array of styles. Here are 3 milky crystals, very sharp and damage-free, set against a contrasting dark shard of matrix.
6.7 x 4.9 x 3.7 cm. One of two very aesthetic specimens of calcite on matrix from Missouri in this set of auctions. Here are two VERY gemmy (for the Sweetwater) crystals, the larger measuring 4.5 cm, perched perfectly on the matrix. One of them appears hardly attached at all! Ex. Feist Collection.
21.8 x 15.2 x 7.9 cm. Sorry for the vague locality - but we DO know this big and amazing specimen of calcite is from China. At any rate, as you can see, this is quite a spectacular specimen. The whopper crystals are translucent and honey-colored. They have this incredible surface made up of hundreds of small sub-faces. Both crystals are twinned - the larger one, multiply-terminated at one end with a dozen different peaks. Only one of the four terminations is contacted. On the back side of the crystals, you can see sharp black internal phantoms (earlier calcite crystals that were coated with a dark mineral before being engulfed by later growth).
14.5 x 1.4 x 3.8 cm. A lone, large (4-cm) galena cube is perched dramatically at the edge of a matrix of sheety marcasite with small calcites. The galena has pretty stepped sub-faces on its main faces, and a fine nickel luster. It’s isolation on the matrix makes this a really desirable piece.
5.1 x 4.6 x 4.1 cm. An intensely JEWEL-like crystal of calcite - it is so bright and gemmy (hard to photograph) - with perfectly symmetrical hexagonal form rising to a pyramidal termination.
2.8 x 2.6 x 2.2 cm. Twin pillars of the prized deep pink cobaltoan variety of calcite, from the prime locality of Bou Azzer - which over the past two years turned out an unusual number of fine specimens of this sought-after varietal.
