Sharp , classically formed hexagonal calcite from this old loclaity, with crystals to 2 cm nicely displayed on matrix!
This collector loved his Andreasberg calcites! Here is an unusual piece with sharp , translucent crystals to 2 cm, quite differrent from the normal sharp hexagonal forms we consider so typical of this locality.
A very sculptural specimen with a classic hexagonal, translucent calcite crystal perched atop matrix. The crystal measures 3.5 cm across and is very 3-dimensional, and complete all around except for a very minor edge wear which could in any case be minimized if so desired with a few drops of weak acid. But as it is, it looks more antique, and i like it that way. Quite a nice calcite, showing stereotypical form.
Sharp crystals to about 1.5 cm, showing another classic hexagonal style for Andreasberg - obviously this collector loved the calcites from this rich silver mining district.
A beautiful locality specimen with sharp gemmy spahlerites to 6 mm on drusy, sparkling calcite, all atop large fat milky quartz points. Although this specimen has no label withit, it was sight-ID'd by German-specialist/collector Herb Obodda.
A rich, lustrous specimen of sharp galena crystals accented by siderite and sparkling calcite, from this classic locality.
A sharp complex crystal of about 1 inch, perched on matrix of small calcites, makes this a classic example from this old locality.
A very weird, airy specimen with fat, striated , brownish-gray calcites on which are perched little bubbly , faintly green smithsonite crystals. Unusual, old example from Broken Hill (we surmise, by habit and associatin, and matrix...though no label survives)
A classic style of calcite from his historic locale, with stacked flat disc-shaped crystals measuring about 5 cm across, overall as a cluster. Beautiful, and interesting, with an 1878 label.
A fairly elegant specimen of stacked rhombohedra, classic in style, form this old historic silver mining district.
A sharp 6mm proustite crystal glows gem red when backlit, and other clusters of smaller crystals are present as well on a calcite matrix. Classic old material, and a rare piece with surviving documentation marking it as Andreasberg (though the calcite is also indicative). Label is dated 1831 !
Unusual, elongated calcites of a style uncommon for this locality. Some crystals are damaged, but most are intact. Unusual, interesting habit, for not a lot of money for what these tend to go for.
A hefty, handsized specimen of nearly solid manganite with accent of calcite for contrast, fesaturing super lustrous crystals to nearly 2 cm. This is a classic old Ilfeld specimen from its heyday in the late 1800s, and a beautiful and displayable specimen at an affordable price for such a classic, I feel.
A beautiful example of an association I had not yet seen fro mAndreasberg, myself, of sparkling drusy quartz upon a large, translucent calcite rhomb. The whole piece glows when backlit, and is one of the most attractive Andreasberg specimens I can recall seeing of any species, for sheer sparkle value. It is nearly pristine, and certainly complete on front. Label is dated 1832 !

A bright and sparkling specimen with unusually lustrous clusters of tan and offwhite-colored olmiite, spaced out in discrete balls upon a calcite matrix. The colors make for a stark contrast to one another, and the tan balls are incredibly lustrous. Illustrated in the "Connoisseurs Choice" article on Olmiite, in the March-April issue of ROCKS & MINERALS magazine. Joe Budd Photos, shot in halogen light...they are more red-colored in standard room fluorescent lighting.
