Simply said, this is a competition-level, elegant miniature of sturmanite, rare on matrix. Two prismatic, lustrous and translucent, greenish-brown sturmanite crystals, to 2.25 cm in length, diverge and form a "v". Aesthetic and superb!
From the ancient slag heaps of Laurium comes this rather spectacular pseudomorph of pink rhodochrosite after calcite. It has very dramatic form, as you can see, showig off the full major crystal on a natural pedestal! The 5.5 cm wide pseudo is a lovely pink color with good luster. There are also a couple of smaller rhombs of the same pseudo. This is a classic old locality, but large specimens, in good shape, are extremely uncommon. This came out of an old German collection and is one of the better examples I have seen.
This lustrous, translucent, olive green, calcite is composed of interlocking rhombohedrons. The rhombs have formed a rosette which sits on top like a knob. This rosette measures 2.5 cm across. The viewing side of the specimen is undamaged . This is the most lustrous, most aesthetic example I have had of this material which came out around 1999-2000 labelled as green smithsonite. I have never seen any more, since that time.
A limestone matrix and millimeter-size epidote form the substrate for a row of colorless, translucent, calcite crystals, the largest of which is 1.0 cm across. Aesthetically, nestled along side the calcite is a cluster of extremely lustrous, barrel-shaped prismatic, translucent red vesuvianite crystals. The largest reaches 1.0 cm across. The total effect, including the color contrast, is mesmerizing. IT IS MUCH BETTER IN PERSON and this is one of the better specimens I have sen far seen from new finds in Pakistan.
This is a classic gemmy twinned calcite from the Verkhniy, but of extremely high quality, or perhaps the highest, and thus a world class calcite in my book. It is certainly the best of its type I have seen, and I am a calcite collector at heart. It is sharply terminated with a thick, 3-dimensional form. It is undamaged. It has glassy, brilliant lustre to it, and it is gemmy as heck...you just could NOT get better for this quality, in this large size range, I think! It is a stunning specimen that, although colorless, really leaps out like a jewel from the disaply case. BETTER IN PERSON!
This is a classic, gemmy, twinned calcite from the Verkhniy finds of the last few years, sharply terminated and undamaged along its length. It is transparent in person, and has a brighter lustre than indicated in the picture. It is undamaged and remarkably unrepaired as are many of these larger twins. BETTER IN PERSON!
Among the recent finds of minerals from India are the nail-head, light grayish- green, translucent and lustrous, calcite groups. The largest crystal measures 3.0 cm in length. I particularly like the lovely growth striations that look like terraced rice paddies. THIS IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST specimens I saw from the find, in terms of quality , aesthetics, and color saturation.
This is another of the new, light grayish-green, translucent and lustrous, calcites from India. There is only the slightest bruise near the termination.
This is another group of nail-head, light grayish-green, translucent, highly lustrous, calcite crystals perched on a bed of much smaller, disc-shaped, translucent calcite crystals. The largest crystal is 4.0 cm across and displays the same superb growth patterns as the previous specimen. THIS IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST specimens I saw from the find, in terms of quality , aesthetics, and color saturation

This is a rich and colorful specimen from a small one-time find of botryoidal, intense green adamite - quite different than other adamite found at any time at this locality before or since! It is similar to old Greek material from Laurion, but the matrix is classic Ojuela mine gossan and quite distinct. An amazingly colorful specimen, from a totally unique pocket amidst all the other adamite found here! Marty's collection was world-famous for his suite of Mexican minerals but of those he was most proud of and dedicated to building the adamite suite. This is a significant pedigree for a Mexican adamite, but its a quality piece in and of itself, as well.

A glittering, attractive combination specimen featuring a gemmy, clear fluorite crystal perched on a pedestal of galena crystals, and itself draped gently by a glistening coating of sparkling white calcite. This is a striking combo piece from a localitythat, while not quite defunct, now longer produces this assemblage.

This lovely matrix plate of cobaltoan calcite is comprised of rich pink, equant, crystals that average .5 cm across. The overall effect of this specimen is dazzling.

A cluster of frosted, colorless, translucent, and doubly terminated crystals are perched in a sculpted manner on a matrix of basalt. The largest crystal is 5 cm in length. This specimen has such a nice balance to it.

A fine druse of mirror bright, iridescent, pyrite has covered this specimen nearly completely, even around the sides of the matrix shard! The most obvious area is the coating on a 2.5 cm, doubly terminated calcite crystal. This is a fine and rare occurrence from Tasmania. BRIGHTER, and BETTER IN PERSON

Exactly what it looks like - a REALLY good specimen of dioptase of the topmost quality, on calcite matrix! Specimens of this quality, are almost unobtainable now and the prices escalate EVERY year. Since no more has been found from Tsumeb in 30 years, they should only keep going up in value as the stuff is quite simply one of the most beautiful things in the mineral world and nearly all collectors really wants one at some point. This is the best specimen I have had for the 5-10k range in some time.
