Well, we have pinned down the locality for this amazing new find now: Chenzhou. And what a dazzling find it is! On selective edges of the calcite crystals on this large cluster is bright, golden pyrite - even brighter and more amazing than the pics show! The result is so dramatic and eye-catching! Got this about a month ago from a close and good contact in China who brings us now and then wonderful new things that have not been seen yet....these are SO pretty, in person. We have the best of the lot so far, and are waiting to see if more come. For now, though, this IS a good one - in fact, even better than the pics show, because since it was photographed, we trimmed it a bit to make it notably better! 13.7 x 9.9 x 6.7 cm

Calcite from Rucks Pit, Fort Drum, Okeechobee Co., Florida, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-70869a.jpg]

A large and mostly COMPLETE shell from the finds in Florida. This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. The interior of the shell is now completely covered with these fine, golden crystals. Not many fine collector specimens come from Florida, of course! 10.7 x 9.9 x 4.9 cm

Irai was known for these superb, gorgeous calcites, and then the supply seemed to dry up. There were hardly any available at the last year''s Tucson show, and they were overpriced, so we bought none. Then, to our surprise, we found a cache of new specimens with one dealer at the small Spring Denver Show last year, and cherry-picked all the best ones, and sold them. Then they disappeared again - until finally, a contact brought us the only specimens we saw at this year''s Tucson Show, and we bought the entire lot - the good, the bad and the ugly - in order to get the good ones - like this one! 5.1 x 4.0 x 4.0 cm

A cluster of large, lustrous, golden calcite crystals, all perfectly terminated, with the added distinction of having smooth bevels with recessed areas in the middle of the faces that have complex micro-faces like cut glass! Big, showy, beautiful! 15.1 x 10.0 x 7.2 cm

Gemmy and lustrous, emerald-green dioptase crystals to 9 mm on a nicely contrasting, aesthetically shaped matrix of sparkly, off-white calcite from Tsumeb. This fine piece comes with a Prosper Williams label, a prominent Tsumeb dealer in the 1970s and early 1980s. Dioptase on calcite from Tsumeb is much sought after. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON! 4.0 x 3.2 x 2.0 cm

These wonderful triangular, pyramidal calcites from the Daye Mine are VERY uncommon and highly prized by the Chinese – and they charge quite a premium for them. In fact, the two specimens here are priced barely above cost, truth be told. This crystal measures 2 cm on edge and has rust tones from inclusions of hematite. Note how two of the tips are flat, where the third is pointed – all three natural and undamaged. It is quite unusual to see a variety of calcite that commonly terminates in either form. 8.5 x 6.8 x 4.5 cm

A strange, biomorphic-looking pseudomorph of calcite var. thinolite, from Russia. The sharp orange-brown pseudomorphed crystals look like a crown or head of hair atop a pear-shaped object. This is a dramatic example of this sort of specimen, with a really wonderful overall form. 7.8 x 4.7 x 4.6 cm
